Full-Bodied Japanese Ramen ^^ Smile Feb 10, 2014

Another new Ramen joint, operating nearby a few other competitive Ramen restaurants just within a stone's throw away like the Keisuke Tori King. Therefore, as a marketing strategy of this new restaurant, there was an offer spanned for the past three days whereby the place gave out its first 100 bowls of ramen FOC!!

Well I didn't miss the opportunity since I was just nearby the area and there wasn't any long snaky queue at all when I arrived. The place was easily located just opposite Orchid Hotel.

Had the Tonkotsu Ramen with additional topping of Tamago. And it was simply good especially the broth which tasted not overly rich but flavorful enough! I am quite sick of ramen broth which is salty and rich. As for the noodles, one can opt for the texture to be hard, normal or soft. The meat slices was tender.

This would be another good place for a piping flavorful Ramen lol The restaurant claims to be the 2 years No. 1 ramen in Ramen Champion and is best known for Tonkotsu-based ramen, made from pork bones and simmered for many hours.

I would definitely head back to try their spicy rendition hehe, known as God's Fire LOL. The place has quite a variety, including rice. And there is also free-flow hard-boiled eggs lol

Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Hawker Centre | Ramen | Noodles

It was indeed unconventional to find this unique Singapore-styled ramen which definitely stands out amidst all the normal hawker food fare. And it was really quite awesome.

The smallest bowl priced at $5.50 but the portion was already big enough to fill my stomach lol

The noodles was springy and had a delectable taste of shrimps paste. The egg was cooked sous-vide like the Japanese Tamago one usually finds in Ramen. There were a few slices of char siew which had a tender chewiness. But I don't fancy the meat as they contained slightly too much fats along with the meat while my friend enjoyed it very much mad

Besides that, there were two huge chunky wantons which were simply awesomely bouncy. And last but not least, there was a deep-fried potato-prawn fritter as well. It was a good combination and great as one of the noodle toppings but it was not as crunchy or crispy as I have anticipated.

Overall, unique and good quality food and reasonably-priced of course since it is at hawker center. So expect to sweat while slurping down the hot bowl of noodles hehe lol

Vegetarian food has never been appealing for me though I love vegetables and salad. But the idea of mock meat is kinda artificial

However, after much convincing persuasion from my friend whose favourite burger place is none other than VeganBurg, I relented. Headed there on a Saturday morning, filled with doubts, especially when the place is situated relatively remotely at Eunos, I left the place brimming with satisfaction hehe ^^

And so why would I say so? Firstly, it is a healthier version of fast food, but yet food is only prepared upon order. And this is the first vegan fast food chain, so everything is plant-based only.

Had the set meal of Creamy Shrooms Burger with Broccoli as side dish and the Citron Cooler as drinks ($ 11.80). The drink was very refreshing. I like that the burger bun has a toothsome texture rather than the usual soft white bread. The patty with the mushrooms topping tasted altogether simply wholesome though I could not really tell what was used to make the patty. Probably some beancurd skin thingy

On the other hand, my friend had the Hawaiian Burger set. The pineapple slice was juicy but the patty had a strong mock meat taste. I prefer the Creamy Shrooms better lol

Overall, food is good and fresh while it is also a fresh idea to eat plant-based fast food. Even the seats are covered with fake grass LOL but it can get a bit prickly if you aren't wearing long pants. Bright fresh atmosphere complements perfectly with healthy wholesome 'fast food'. But food wasn't that fast either, was in fact only prepared upon ordering.

Another comparable competitor of good cafes around the area lol The place, being relatively new, has gathered steadily crowds flocking to the cafe especially during the peak hours.

Decorations are pretty simple with three loud peculiar portraits hung on the wall. The place is fairly constricted so seatings are limited. Reservations can be done via the DOC website. So it is advisable to reserve beforehand to avoid frustrating long wait.

To satisfy my sweet tooth, I ordered the Banana Rum Buttermilk Waffle with Vanilla ice-cream ($13). It was served with Maple Syrup but I didn't add any on my waffle as there was already powdered sugar on top. The waffle had a tinge of fragrance and it definitely looked appealing with the scoop of ice-cream enthroned on top. It was vanilla flavour and tasted quite authentic with small specks of vanilla seeds visible. Waffle was fluffy but not as crispy as I would have preferred. Overall, the waffle was not awesome but good comfort food.

My friend had the Smoked Salmon Scramble ($15.50). For this, I would think it was pretty awesome!lol
Salmon portion was generous and tasted very fresh. The accompanied scrambled egg with the pancake base complemented perfectly.

For coffee, we had Cappuccino ($5) and Iced Latte. Coffee here was strong and flavourful. Many suggest the premium hot chocolate milk, even a rendition of drip coffee liquer is available.

More than average quality food while price is reasonable. But space is limited so one would feel quite constrained and uncomfortable, especially when the cafe is jam-packed mad

There have been several cafes popping up in this quiet neighborhood of Everton Park. This small cafe is easily accessible from Outram Park Mrt.

Table seatings are pretty limited as the cafe is relatively small. The environment is quiet and conducive for reading. There are magazines and reading materials available as well.

Had a Cappuccino ($4). It was good and strong but surely not the best. Besides drinks, the cafe offers food such as waffles, cakes and pastries as well.
