Less than satisfactory Cry Feb 26, 2014

Was looking for a burger and came across this place and thought of giving it a try. It has a slightly different concept from the usual sandwich bun as the bread bun is replaced with a thin waffle.

Tried the Griddy Ocean Catch ($8.10). It came with some waffle fries as side. The thin waffle has a mild fragrance but was rather soft and not crispy. The fish fillet was ordinary, just like the normal fried frozen fish fillet one gets from supermarket. Waffles fries tasted like bland deep friend potatoes.

Overall, the sandwich was really unimpressive while for its worth, the pricing might have been slightly steep in my opinion. Not going back for a second shot.

As our taste buds are most probably accustomed to the common version of peppery Bak Kut Teh, some might not welcome the change of the taste of the soup this stall offers.

The soup has an aromatic pleasing herbal taste which appeals very much to me. Sadly, you can't ask for free refill like other usual Bak Kut Teh place.

A Claypot of Pork Rib soup for one person costs $4. The soup was full of flavour while the pork ribs meat was tender to chew. Ordered a side dish of Mushroom Kailan ($3) which complemented the meal nicely lol

If you don't mind trying the herbal soup taste, this is a change from the usual Bak Kut Teh. Food quality is good and fresh and reasonably-priced.

Thumbs up to the Pasta ^^ Smile Feb 26, 2014

Looking at the display of the wide array of appealing pasta, pizza and side dishes is indeed tempting enough to justify a visit to this pasta place lol

After a dining experience to the place, I feel that it has justified a re-visit to the restaurant in the future.

Went on a weekday for lunch and there is a promotion of weekday lunch set $14.90 which consists of any choice of pasta, salad and a small soup.

For the salad, there is a salad counter to mix and match own salad. Though the choices are fairly limited, they are all fresh and good. One can choose from the usual lettuce, carrots, cherry tomatoes to fruits such as pineapple and lychee. For a brinjal lover like myself, I was delighted to see there were sautéed brinjal as well. For toppings there are bacon bits and white sesame as well as flavorful dressings.

Feeling already satiated after a bowl of fresh salad, I was really very satisfied with the pasta I ordered. I had the shrimp and mushroom with Onsen Egg pasta in tomato sauce. The noodles was cooked al-dente and the tomato cream sauce was full of flavour. The addition of an Onsen Egg on top added extra oomph and moist to it lol The portion was too big for me and I was full to the brim already halfway eating.

I was very satisfied with the food quality here and the lunch deal was a good one. I would definitely head back here for the pasta and salad too! ^^ However I have noticed that most of the other branches actually don't have the salad counter, so the salad was actually served from the kitchen and what you will get is just some lettuces, tomatoes and carrot shreds madsad

The best Chai Tea Latte Smile Feb 26, 2014

Talking about Tea Latte, I am always on the look out for good Chai Tea Latte. I have tried the Chai Tea Latte from Starbucks, Tea Dot, Chaiholics, Coffee Bean and Spinelli.

My verdict is Coffee Bean has so far the best Chai Tea Latte so far!lol

The Chai taste is strong yet of course not overpowering. I am most disappointed with the Starbucks rendition as the Chai taste was too mild and if one were to ask for richer taste it would be then too sweet as its Chai powder is already pre-mixed with sugar.

Have a cuppa of Chai, aromatic and flavourful, best taken when it is piping hot. Its flavorful spice coupled with warm skimmed milk leaves a nice warm aftertaste. Enjoy a wonderful Chai-time with a slice of cake, biscotti or cookies to go along!! ^^ (on a side note, the Matcha Tea Latte is another good option for a mildly sweet soothing hot drink smile)

Mediocre Hong Kong Cuisine food OK Feb 25, 2014

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Dim Sum | Roasted Meat

Canton Paradise offers Hong Kong cuisine, ranging from DimSum, Wanton noodles, Congee to meat and vegetable dishes. Among all the usual common dishes in the menu, it is the Crispy BBQ Pork Buns which is actually the main reason why I like to frequent this place lol
Headed to the branch at Jcube, the restaurant dining setting is very pleasant with comfortable cushion seats and spacious doing space.

Ordered the Crispy BBQ Pork Buns ($4.80 for 3pcs), Seafood Hor Fun ($12.80), Fish Belly Congee and Taro with Chicken and Prawn Puff ($4.80 for 3pcs). The crispy buns were, in my opinion, comparable as those in Tim Ho Wan with its flaky crust and generous portion of Char Siew filling. The Taro puffs, on the other hand, were a total flop. When it was served, it was not hot but rather cold. It just failed to deliver the usual satisfaction which comes when one bites into a steaming hot puff. The filling was not flavourful with barely discernible amount of chicken and prawn meat inside.

The Congee had a silky smooth texture but I think Crystal Jade has a better rendition of congee. The congee here tasted a tad too bland. The HorFun looked really appealing with its yellowish egg in the gravy. The noodles was slurpy smooth but gravy was not enough that some parts of the dish were dry.

Some hits and misses but on the whole, food quality is average. Other dishes, except most of the DimSum items, are worth a try. But don't expect too much despite its slightly steep pricing.
