Fancy a bite after a long shopping journey in Far East Plaza? Head down to Fat Boy's Burger Bar for a decent affordable meal! Its a basically a quaint little cafe that of course sells primarily burgers. The highlight of the Burger Bar is that everything is customizable: You get to pick everything you want, from the bun, to the meat, to the condiments. Its great as it complements the customers and allows you to choose whatever you're fancying at the moment. This is a burger with: Honey oat bun with pork patty, with toppings: Monterey Jack cheese, sautéed shitake mushrooms, grilled bananas, caramelised onions, lettuce, tomato, pickles, with mayonnaise and peanut butter! As you can see, if you go overboard and order a little too much, your burger will be huge and unsightly, so go easy on your add ons! If you're a carnivore, feel free to add in more meat! The pork patty went pretty well the peanut butter sauce, although I won't recommend putting mayonnaise and peanut butter together. It's a pretty weird mash up but to each his own! They do offer sides such as fries and onion rings and desserts such as brownies with ice cream. Do keep in mind that its a pretty small shop and has very little sitting space, so you might have to order take out but considering how awesome the place is, its really well worth the trouble! My girlfriend and I were hunting for a nice place to have lunch at The Star Vista, and we decided to give CoCo Ichibanya a try! It was a little after lunch hour so there wasn't much of a crowd at the restaurant, which probably resulted in service being rendered to us quickly and efficiently! I really like the concept of CoCo Ichibanya, where you get to determine the extent of spiciness of the dish you order, and what surprised me more was that not only could you choose to add rice for a fee, but you could also reduce the portion of rice from 250g to 150g and save $1 on your meal! They have a wide range of meats you can order with your curry rice, and I ordered one with chicken cutlet. For the spiciness level, it ranges from 1 to 5 and I decided to play it safe and go with 2. It was really good, with the chicken cutlet fried to a glowy golden colour and the meat was tender and lean. The curry wasn't too spicy considering it was only at a level 2, and had a decent taste to it. I would recommend not reducing the portion of rice so you can finish off all the curry in your meal. One minor issue I had was that you had to pay for a glass of water, but the excellent service by the staff more than made up for it. You can also pay $4.50 to add on a drink, dessert and salad to your curry rice if you crave more variety. I've never quite liked spending money at Japanese restaurant chains such as Sakae or Shintokyo, as I dislike sacrificing quality just for cheaper food. But Ichiban Boshi is a different story altogether! My friend dragged me to the outlet at Causeway Point, Woodlands for a meal and the food was really good! They have the usual wide variety of Japanese food ranging from bentos to udons, sashimi to sushi, but if you grab one of their sets its really money well spent! My friend took Kaisen Salad, which is basically salad with sashimi and just look at that generous heap of sashimi! Presentation of the salad was very nice, with thr salad's portion was decent and fresh. Apart from the big portion of sashimi given, the sashimi was very fresh and tasty, and especially sweet given the cheap price of $9.90. This set was basically a delight for a carb-lover like myself! Again, presentation was a very big plus point. A big bowl of cold soba and a bowl of oyako don really made my day. THe oyako don was really well made with the egg being very chewy and the chicken just delicious. A plate of sashimi topped off the meal along with a small slice of tofu although at that point I was already really full. If these items aren't what you crave, Ichiban Boshi has plenty of other sets that have a variety of items that would suit your taste. The sushi is pretty basic and similar to other Japense restaurants with the conveyor belt concept. If you're a light eater like my friend, you can just grab the salad with one or two plates of sushi to complete your meal! Ichiban Boshi is pretty much found all over Singapore and it has a rewards card that can be used to collect chops with each meal that will contribute to free food items. This card can be used for other partner organisations as well including Ichiban sushi, Yakiyaki bo and Green Pumpkin Bakery! Of course, a downisde of eating at Ichiban Boshi is that the restaurant can be pretty packed during dinner time, so do come early if possible, but then again a wait is well worth it! This is the second time I'm having a meal here and it really is a gem in Orchard. Despite the 'sleaziness' of Cuppage Plaza, Izakaya Nijumaru is a pretty big restaurant with decently priced food items and nice Japanese ambience. Bento sets generally ranges from $8 to $25 but they do offer a wide variety of food such as sashimi, yakimono and dons. The first time I came, I had the Nijumaru Bento but this time I decided to change and order another set recommended by a friend: The Unajyu Set. Similar to the Nijumaru Bento, a variety of dishes comes with the Unajyu Set. You get to choose between Tempura or Assorted Sashimi, and of course the big highlight of the Unajyu Set would be 2 big slices of Unagi! Unagi lovers like me will definitely be jumping with joy at the sight of this set! The unagi was made deliciously and nicely glazed with a nice smooth texture. The generous portion of unagi was also a sight to behold. The assorted sashimi that I ordered along with the set was decent and fresh, and in my opinion a better option than ordering tempura. While the first time I was here, I had the opportunity to just chill in the restaurant after my dinner, this time the waitresses were eager to get me out due to a long waiting list in the queue outside the restaurant, so do take note if you dine here! And if you walk in or make a reservation, do make sure everyone is on time because they won't let you into the restaurant unless everyone is present so that's one more point to note. Tucked hidden on the 2nd floor of Cuppage Plaza, this restaurant was recommended to me by a friend. The atmosphere isn't exactly that of a high class restaurant, but who needs that 'atas' feeling when you have good food at a very decent price. A pretty popular venue for meals, most likely during meal times the restaurant will be packed and you would probably have to wait a bit to get a seat. This right here is a masterpiece. For $20, you can order the Nijumaru Bento where you get a bit of everything and it is totally worth it. With rice and miso soup, your dishes include assorted sashimi, tempura, braised pork belly and grilled saba fish. The sashimi was decent, while the braised pork belly was heavenly and simply melted in my mouth. One problem with Izakaya Nijumaru is that the menu is entirely in Japanese, but the waiters/waitresses are all extremely helpful and will patiently help you decipher and explain the menu items. The ambience more than made up for it and its a really good place for bringing friends and having a good dinner and chat thereafter. Recommended Dish(es):
