Carpenter and Cook! Smile Oct 26, 2013

Categories : Café | Desserts and Cakes | Brunch

Carpenter and Cook is a quaint little cafe/restaurant located in Bukit Timah hidden behind shophouses but that hasn't kept them from being rather well known and gaining a good reputation. I went there for brunch one Saturday morning and it was a little crowded but we managed to get seats! We ordered 2 dishes: A quiche and a ham sandwich.

The prices for the dishes are rather steep in my opinion, so the question is can they justify the higher prices with great taste? Turns out they can! While the quiche is actually quite small in portion, the taste is really amazing and delicious! It really makes you want to come back for with their excellent combination of ingredients and it was really well baked. The ham sandiwich was decent as well although it was really quite average. The quiche really made my day so if you're willing to fork out a little more cash, do give Carpenter and Cook's amazing quiche a try!

Sushi Tei! Smile Oct 26, 2013

I first ate at Sushi Tei a few years back, and I've been coming back ever since. Serving a wide variety of Japanese cuisine, Sushi Tei serves quality Japanese dishes that delights the palette and gets you salivating for more!

Me and my friend had our lunch at the outlet at Paragon, Orchard and it wasn't too crowded at that point in time. We took counter seats as we weren't sure of what we wanted to eat, so we sat at the counter in case we had a craving for sushi. We ordered a Chirashi Don and a plate of Curry Rice with Chicken. The chirashi Don had a nice presentation to it and it was served with various slices of sashimi. The sashimi were all very fresh with the slightest whiff of a fishy smell and just very yummy! The curry rice was decent with a taste that wasn't too spicy or too bland - Mixed well with vegetables, chicken and potatoes, the curry rice was an appetizing dish to enjoy. We didn't get any sushi in the end as we were pretty much satisfied with what we had already ordered, which is another testament to how good Sushi Tei's food is!

Basilico Restaurant is restaurant that is worth visiting. It serves Italian Cuisine and offers buffet lunch and dinner. Although a bit expensive, keep in mind that you pay for what you get, and what you're getting at Basilico is a wonderful meal with quality food. I went for a weekday lunch buffet which has lesser choices than dinner but it still has wide spread of salad, bread, meat, pasta and desserts.

The extensive spread of food is really amazing and presentation of the food was all very appealing to the eyes. Seafood was very fresh and the cravings were all delicious. Pasta and pizza was tasty as well but I would recommend saving up space more for the main courses and desserts. Do ignore the local spread and spend more time indulging in the italian cuisine! And do make resevations!

Skinny Pizza! Smile Oct 25, 2013

Categories : Restaurant | Pasta | Kids-Friendly

Skinny Pizza is a place I've always wanted to try but it always slipped my mind til now! I headed down to have a meal there with a friend. We ordered the Squid Ink Pizza ($26) and ordered another 3 side dishes to share: Truffle fries, brie cheese and grilled prawns (3 side dishes for $18)

For the side dishes, the one that appealed to me most would be truffle fries! The fries were rich with the taste of truffle oil and Skinny Pizza was very generous with the serving of truffle oil! Brie cheese was a delight as well although the portion was a little small for the price. The grilled prawns were decent but my focus was entirely on the truffle fries!

The squid ink pizza was delicious! Although a bit high prise wise, the taste and portion of toppings is excellent! THe crust and base of the pizza was crispy and stained black with squid ink. The toppings were of a good mixL Vegetables, prawns and many many squid rings! Sadly there wasn't any of my favourite cheese but the toppings more than made up for it! All in all a good meal! We went in the evening and surprisingly there wasn't much of a crowd, so head down on weeknights if you can!

Hifumi! Appetizer Bar Buffet! Smile Oct 25, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Seafood | Sushi/Sashimi | Buffet | Sukiyaki/Shabu Shabu

Hifumi is not your typical restaurant, it serves a range of different dishes and every order grants you access to an appetizer bar buffet! You can add on free flow of drinks including coffee, tea and soft drinks for a few more dollars. The concept of a free flow appetizer bar is appealing for people who are looking to fill up their stomachs but unwilling to fork out more money.

A wide range appetizers and snacks are available while you wait for your main dish. THe appeitzers apparently change from time to time so to try everything you'll have to visit Hifumi during different times (Well played Hifumi). What drew me was this big bowl of melted cheese you could mix with various vegetables and snacks. They had chawanmushi as well that was hot and generous with fillings such as mushrooms and crabmeat. The appetizers do run out fast, so keep a look out for refills when they come and make a rush for it!

I ordered the Paper Baked Chicken which was considered a healthy choice in the menu. The chicken came piping hot and the meat was tender and well marinated. Not exceptional but a decent meal complimented by all the appetizer dishes. Rice was unnecessary as I was pretty full from the appetizers already!

One thing to note is that the Appetizer Bar area is pretty cramp and crowded at times (and no one seems to know how to queue) but thats just a minor issue! Good food, good variety, happy meal!
