Sweet in Paradise! Smile Dec 07, 2013

It is actually my kind of thing that I visit another restaurant/cafe for separate desserts. This not only give me a new environment to experience but also the chance to capture the first impression of a new place. The Fruits Paradise has actually been in Singapore for years, but I have no idea why I didn't try it in the past.

Have ordered the Strawberry Tiramisu ($6.80) to try, this healthy-looking tart tasted fresh and light with hint of sweet and bitter in between. The crust is well-made and I believe that's the key to a perfect tart. A good 4.5/5. Sadly, only left enough money to stomach one tart, but my next visit I'm hoping on trying their mixed berries chocolate or seasonal fruits versions.

Royal Feast the Medieval Way! Smile Dec 07, 2013

Categories : American | Steaks and Grills

Time for happy events! Brought my eating buddy to The King Louis for his birthday celebration. Those who frequent the Daiso at Vivocity would already have came across this theme restaurant long ago. Honestly, I did not know about this till a friend recommended it to me recently.

This castle-themed restaurant serves cuisine that represents what the royal families eat in the medieval period. Upon arrival, the entrance and dining area are all guarded with these armoured knights around 2 metres tall. To add on, there's also a life-size tiger figure as well as really customized furnishings to fit the theme. I didn't manage to take a picture of the other side of the restaurant, but we were able to see the Far Far Away Castle from Universal Studios, so the owner really do know how to pick the perfect location.

We helped ourselves to this platter of starters interesting named as Knights of the Round Table - Platter A ($19.90) & it includes castle drumlets, bratwurst sausages, banana bacon bites, crispy wedges and some side mesclun salad. The salad was amazing & the rest were fine. The only thing we didn't really like was that the drumlets were a tad bit stiff.

Along with some mesclun and straight cut fries, the BBQ Chicken Pullet ($17.50) was served piping hot to our table & the chicken was tender and delicious. However, in my opinion maybe it was slightly overcooked because there were some dry parts. Still, the portion is good for its price.

The Carlsberg Battered Fish & Chips ($17.90) came to us with side mesclun, lemon wedges and tartar sauce. To me, it wasn't a wow factor I was expecting because fish & chips from an English restaurant were supposed to be amazing than other places. But besides the outer crisp, it wasn't perfect.

Maybe my expectations were too high but the next time I ever visit, I'll definitely try something else. Heard from my friend the banquet were amazing & worth the price! But nevertheless, all the food served were so photogenic its worth this trip!

So anyway all the food were served together but not everything was served hot. My idea is that we visited at an awkward timing at 5pm and they were probably short-handed in the kitchen so I couldn't blame.

The restaurant does show some potential, the medieval themed dining concept works really well at that location. I do hope that they would have more options for the sides to every main courses since all the sides that came were mesclun & fries. Overall I heard that it was a good restaurant for family gathering & the live band/music were great, we weren't able to enjoy the performance because we left just the time it was about to start. So if you ever think of visiting, reserve a table any time after 6.30pm!

It's Pezzo time again! Have been missing Pezzo's pizzas since the last time I've tried it. Among all the stalls at the food basement at Junction 8, Pezzo does a great job standing out with its circus themed signboard. (Not shown in pictures but you'll know when you pass by one.)

So the previous time I regretted ordering only one slice because it was so addictive, thus I went ahead to get 3 slices at a promotion price which was really reasonable! The BBQ Bonanza ($4.50/Slice, $12.90/3 Slices) was awesome, the barbecue sauced pizza include chicken strips were topped with cheddar and mozzarella cheese. Really yummy!

Too bad they have limited location areas for their delivery. Would be nice to see more outlets near my place in the future!

So I was having this sudden urge of craving for Swensen's and one afternoon I simply decided to pull my buddy along to this quieter outlet to try out their Christmas menu.
Swensen's Interior

Swensen's Interior

We started off with a simple side from their regular menu, the <b style="line-height: 1.6;">Deep Fried Mushrooms ($6.40) was served hot promptly within 5minutes beyond our expectation. The shiitake mushrooms are plump and fried to golden crisp perfection. Coating them with the tartar sauce that comes along would definitely open up anyone's appetite!

My buddy ordered the Stuffed US Turkey Roll ($19.90) which came along at the right timing as we were almost with finished our side. The turkey roll was nicely sliced into medallions and complimented with mashed potato and fresh garden vegetables of carrots and broccoli. The entire dish was nicely seasoned to our liking.

For the best taste and texture, this is my personal recommended way of eating western cuisine. Ultimate perfection!

For myself, I have ordered the Grilled Piri Piri Chicken ($16.90) which was amazing! From the first mouth, it was obvious that this Portugese-styled chicken was well-marinated for hours then grilled on a really suitable temperature because it was cooked through so nicely which resulted it to be so tender and juicy! It also comes with side salad and raisin rice which were really tasty as well! A definite must order from their Christmas menu!

We were both very full but there's always room for desserts! Between the free drinks or sundaes, we opted for the free sundaes! So we got ourselves <b style="line-height: 1.6;">Hot Fudge Sundae (vanilla icecream with hot fudge & almonds) & <b style="line-height: 1.6;">Merri-Mint Sundae (mint icecream covered with hot fudge) and those ended well!

The one thing I always love about Swensen's is that we'll always be given $5 voucher for every $35 spent. This can also be given to your friends or family if you have no time to visit within the valid period so that always makes this place better than many other casual dining restaurants!

Overall, the service here was really efficient and environment was really nice for a casual date. The food at Swensen's never go wrong so I'm considering on returning soon to try other items from the Christmas menu!

Spicy Korean Crunch! Smile Dec 05, 2013

Categories : American | Fast Food | Halal

When KFC comes out with its korean craze inspired chicken, I couldn't wait to try! Then recently I finally managed to get the taste of it.

Have ordered the Spicy Korean Crunch Meal ($8.20) which comes with 2pc Korean crunch chicken valued at $3.70 each, fries and lemonade. The lemonade was simple on its own but after trying the chicken, the drink proved to me it's worth. The Spicy Korean crunch is the "upgraded" version of the regular KFC hot & spicy chicken, but more deeply fried and topped with glazed spicy Korean sauce and sesame seeds. The balance of the sauce and chicken are just right and like the name says, it's really crunchy. I brought it home to eat it with rice & it was ultimate perfection!

Do give it a try at least once before it's gone!
