Crazy over Curry! Smile Oct 19, 2013

Being an all-time curry lover, I was pretty excited to get my fix of curry at Heng Heng Curry Cafe. This restaurant belongs to the Minor Food Group Singapore which also has Thai Express, Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe, New York New York, Buffet Town, Kiseki, Shokudo Concepts, Pinle among other brands under it, and these brands hardly disappoints.

Heng Heng Curry Cafe situates itself at the basement corner of Causeway Point right next to the escalator, you can never miss it.

They have some really cool curry dishes which people hardly expect could go well with curry. The pictures on their menu all looks so appetizing that you may not know what to order.

I decided to go for the simple Curry Chicken ($9.90). The gravy is really amazing, not overly spicy and really cooked to the right consistency. The chicken aren't as tender as I've expected but they were still tasty because they probably have sinked in the curry flavour after long simmering hours. The potatoes aren't the regular ones you expect from normal curries but rather those lightly fried ones, probably because they didn't want then to be overcooked and mashed up or other reasons. I prefer the non-fried ones though.

This is how well the golden curry goes with the white Steamed Rice ($1). I love the coriander they topped it with because it's really fresh. The curry also comes with long beans & eggplant which are nice too, provided you're not a picky eater.

My buddy who was with me went slightly adventurous and ordered the Curry Chicken Hor Fun ($8.90). There are mixed reviews about the portion of the hor fun but I believe it's just the way they put it, because she took quite a while to finish it too. But I do agree that they could be more generous withy the chicken. Hor fun was a tad bit dry but it goes kind of well with the hot curry gravy.

Who doesn't need drinks for their curry? I've ordered the Grass Jelly drink ($2.80) and they come in this vintage looking mug which I kind of like, the drink was also pretty awesome and sufficient as well. However, one thing I dislike about this place is how they charge for their Plain Water ($0.50). Would leave a far better impression without it.

Overall, they do have good curries, portion of the chicken curry was great at a reasonable price and they have really good and friendly service staff too. Maybe I won't recommend the hor fun but I'll most likely be returning for their signature fish head curry and other dishes on their menu!

Marche Night! Smile Oct 16, 2013

It's friends gatherings again! Marche is really a decent venue to chill, have some good food & catch up with people you really care about.
Everytime I passes by the top level entrance, I'm always kind of tempted to visit its basement because this place isn't your typical Singapore dining place.

Love the beautiful and casual interior design alongside dimmed lightings which can make you feel very relaxed.

Our first order was of course the highly-raved rosti, we had the Swiss Rosti with Sausage & Sour Cream ($14.20). It was not as awesome as I thought it'd be because you can get tired of it after a few mouthful & the sausage was fine. Though it was not bad considering it's still crispy on the top & soft on the bottom, maybe we should have squeezed a slice of lemon.

We also got the Rotisserie Roasted Half Chicken  ($10.90). It was roasted just right because you know how a chicken is cooked perfectly the way you want it when you have no problems separately the meat from the bone. The mashed potato which comes with it is awesome too.

The Spanish Paella with Seafood ($17.40) was not bad but in my opinion, the recipe could be improved. Besides, it's not the best I've tried & it's kind of overprice too.

This is the last for our mains, my friends have ordered the regular sized Prawn with Red Chili Pizza ($15.50). Initially I didn't think that I'd like it because I'm not a fan of chili, but when your expectations are lowered, you may be in for surprises! The balance of the thin crust and topped ingredients are just right such that neither overpowers each other, it was crispy and flavorful. I really like this.

For desserts! We shared among ourselves the Chocolate Cake ($5.60). The chocolate isn't those highly impressive type but for that slice, it was fine.

We also shared the Chocolate Strawberry Crepe ($4-6), I didn't take note of the actual price but this was okay too. It was thin enough & you'll know that they had a smooth batter. It probably wasn't as sinful because of the generous amount of strawberries I guess?

Overall, we paid around $180+ for a pax of 5. Considering the amount of food we ordered & that we've also ordered a couple glass of their Konig Ludwig Weissbier, so the price is okay. Besides, I don't think I can say no to another visit to their beautiful & cosy environment too, so I'm definitely returning again!

Sexy Thai Food! Smile Oct 15, 2013

Categories : Thai | Restaurant

Specially visited Junction 10 to dine at Porn's because I really like the ambience I get everytime I passes by this place. Besides, I really wanted to satisfy my Thai food craving as well.

Ordered their Young Thai Coconut ($4) to have a taste of Thai. One of them was awesome with fresh soft coconut flesh while another was still unriped and hard. Was kind of disappointed but still have high hopes for the food!

So since I'm a really hardcore fan of all kinds of curries, I couldn't say no to getting their Thai Green Curry ($10.90). The balance of sweet and hint of spicy is just right and it also comes with good chunks of tender chicken meat, lovely eggplant and basil leaves.

And here is how good it looks on my Thai Jasmine Rice ($1).

My eating buddy can't really take spicy food and he decides to go for Pad Thai ($9.90), which is a popular noodle dish in Thailand where you can top with squeezed lime, fish sauce, ground peanuts and sugar. It was not bad but not the best he had tried.

Despite anything, we had to get some sides because there's this dish called the Stuffed Chicken Wing ($8.90) which really attracted my attention. The wings are basically de-boned and then generously stuffed with fillings of chicken, black fungus and vegetables. In my opinion, maybe it could need some more seasonings but they were cooked nicely otherwise, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Towards the end of the meal, we figured we wanted to try some desserts too! So we went ahead to get some Sticky Rice with Durian ($8.90). Although appearance-wise, it may not look that awesome but the durian were really good and the sticky rice was served warm too.

Overall, it was a great experience with quite affordable food considering that portion amount of food. Definitely worthed the try!

Visited Astons recently because I was craving for some delicious grilled chicken yet I was on a tight budget. It was also a cold rainy night in town so I figured this should be the place.

There was a queue of roughly 8 customers but I stood in line for less than 10 minutes. To improve efficiency, the staff gave us the menu to order in advance while queuing.

When we were seated, the food came immediately right after. The Lemon Lime Chicken ($8.90) was perfect for me as it came along with some good onion rings and smoking hot baked potato.

My buddy got his Double Up Chicken ($13.50) whereby he selected the Hickory & Teriyaki chicken to pair with his potato salad and onion rings. For the price, it's considered really worth it when 2 huge piece of chicken thighs were served. I always love the grilled chicken at Astons because they are always grilled to perfection with some great sauce, all of their sauces are amazing!

We also ordered Chicken Nuggets - 8pc ($3.90) to share and although it tasted pretty average, we were glad to have them cheaply.

Since it was really cold in the mall, we got ourselves the Hot Chocolate ($3.50). Love the rich chocolate and milk taste but would also love the option of additional marshmallows in the future!

Overall, I'm always on about going to Astons for any meal of the day because this place just never goes wrong!

Dining in New York! Smile Dec 18, 2013

I always come to New York New York whenever I needed something different and this restaurant always provide me with that all American atmosphere, service and environment. I also always find myself enjoying the food.

This time round, I ordered the Black Pepper Chicken Hot Plate, where the chicken steak served was simply huge and the portion of spaghetti was adequate. The chicken was very tender and succulent, it was so good! The spaghetti was served in cream sauce and the hotplate had somehow enhanced the taste and retained the heat for a longer period of time.

Overall, I enjoyed myself a lot here. I am however upset at the fact that most of its outlets have already closed down due to various reasons. Do hope that the remaining outlets will still be around for long time.
