Spicy Korean Crunch! Smile Dec 05, 2013

Categories : American | Fast Food | Halal

When KFC comes out with its korean craze inspired chicken, I couldn't wait to try! Then recently I finally managed to get the taste of it.

Have ordered the Spicy Korean Crunch Meal ($8.20) which comes with 2pc Korean crunch chicken valued at $3.70 each, fries and lemonade. The lemonade was simple on its own but after trying the chicken, the drink proved to me it's worth. The Spicy Korean crunch is the "upgraded" version of the regular KFC hot & spicy chicken, but more deeply fried and topped with glazed spicy Korean sauce and sesame seeds. The balance of the sauce and chicken are just right and like the name says, it's really crunchy. I brought it home to eat it with rice & it was ultimate perfection!

Do give it a try at least once before it's gone!

Bliss in the Neighbourhood Smile Nov 07, 2013

Categories : European

How often are you able to find a nice restaurant at a neighbourhood community centre? This one's situated conveniently right next to Ang Mo Kio station, adopting a really lovely alfresco dining concept. My first visit there was on a Friday night for late night supper.

My friend got the Plain Jane with Salted Caramel    Sauce ($4.90) which was served warm with nice sauce but the waffle wasn't that great after awhile.

I've gotten myself a Plain Jane with Chocolate Sauce ($4.90) and this was slightly better than what my friend had because it was crispier and the chocolate sauce was not too sweet.

After the waffles we decide to get ourselves some nice Margaritas. I've got the Green Apple Margarita ($9.90) but there wasn't much green apple taste in it as I've expected, tad disappointed but maybe it was just a wrong choice.

My friend, however, got an awesome Lychee Margarita ($9.90) and it's really nice with fresh lychee flavoring. Should have gotten this together with him.

This restaurant also offers a good extensive range of alcoholic menu which can be viewed on its website. The restaurant opens from 3pm - 12am from Monday to Thursday and 3pm - 1am from Friday to Sunday. I would return back again for their savoury food soon.

Be Genki! Smile Nov 07, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

Genki Sushi has been has been one of my favorite places for sushi. All my previous experiences were at the smaller outlet at Orchard Central. So I've decided to try out the bigger outlet at Chinatown Point.

Upon reaching, my buddy and I were greeted by a friendly staff who asked whether we were first-timers, we weren't so she didn't had to teach us their awesome ordering system, which was really easy, fun and addictive!

So we first got ourselves our Root Beer Float ($3.80) and they were generous with the big scoop of vanilla icecream, not too gasy nor sweet.

Then I've got to order my favorites from their menu, the California Roll ($3.80) and Dragon Roll ($3.80). The avocado were freshly sliced and tasted so great in our mouths, a must order!
California Roll ($3.80) & Dragon Roll ($3.80)

If you haven't been to Genki Sushi already, one of the reason you'll love this place is the orders' train, where every orders you placed on the ordering pad will zoom out from the kitchen to right next to your table! Well except for some dishes that are hot like the Unagi Rice or Udon etc.

Then we've spotted something new on their menu called the SS Shrimp Roll ($3.80) which is basically a nice paper-thined roll tucked with fried tempura shrimp and fresh raw salmon, wrapped crabmeat along with some greens for mixture of texture and flavour. It compliments well with the ketchup that comes with it too, interesting combination!

And here's the rest of our table of Genki Sushi loves. From the centre there's the Tamago Sushi ($1.80), Egg Salad Sushi ($2.30), more California Roll ($3.80) and Dragon Roll ($3.80), Deep Fried Gyoza ($3.80), Kamikama Maki ($2.30) and lastly the favorite Deep Fried Squid Arm ($3.80).

At the end of the day, another thing that interests me is the hole for customers to insert the plates, so that we can always have a nicely cleared table! This is new to me since I didn't see it at the Orchard Central's outlet. Kind of fun actually!

Overall, Genki Sushi will always be in my favorites list for sushi cravings. Not only am I in love with the concept, the efficiency in orders, friendly staff and interesting ambience, the great menu have also always kept me satisfied throughout the way. Highly recommended place!

Yum at NamNam! Smile Dec 19, 2013

Categories : Vietnamese

NamNam Noodle Bar is a growing business in Singapore selling simple but authentic Vietnamese dishes. The restaurant is best known for their pho, the country's national dish. There are always a long queue at all three of its outlets as customers are all willing to wait for good food. Me, too, brought myself to stand behind a long queue and waited for roughly 10 minutes to enjoy a delectable meal.

We shortened our waiting time by opting to sit at their bar top table, which wasn't bad at all as I love their decor. They also have interesting Vietnamese condiments placed at every table and most of them works really well in enhancing the flavour of every dish I've ever ordered.

Ordered their Lime Soda ($3) which looks pretty much like regular sprite on the outside but no! Don't judge it by the simplicity, for everything served at this place never fails to surprise me. Every sip was refreshing and wonderful.

My friend ordered one of their signature beef pho, the Pho Beef Steak Slices ($8.90). The broth looked pretty plain and light on the outside but it was actually intensely boiled for more than 24 hours! So flavourful that actually to be honest, nobody would ever need the condiments at all! They also have other beef pho such as Pho Beef Balls, Pho Wagyu Beef Slices and Pho Beef Combination.

For myself, I decided to try their bahn mi this time around, got myself the Caremelised 5-Spice Pork Belly, Pork Pate ($5.90) which I considered decently cheap for the really large toasted baguette I received. The 5-spice pork meat were really savoury and full of different flavours at every bite. Enhanced with mayonnaise, carrots, daikon, cilantro etc, this was a really great dish to make my new favourite! Can't wait to try the other bahn mi they have!

Although this wasn't shown on the illustrated menu, the Southern Roll ($4.90) is a great side that can be ordered through the paper menu where you're supposed to write your order quantity on. Unlike the southern rolls I've tried at other restaurants, this was surprisingly soft with a firm juicy prawn to make a good bite. The sauce that it came with also enhances all flavour such that I hoped that I could have more!

Overall, I fully enjoyed myself despite the long queue and brisk environment. The food were served really promptly and the staff here are all friendly and skilled in managing customers and orders. Prices are very affordable as well for the portion and flavour you get. Always love all the dishes I had and can't wait to try out everything on their menu! Thumbs up to NamNam!

Friends Gathering Smile Oct 13, 2013

Categories : American | Restaurant | Seafood

It was a rainy Thursday night & I've met up with some hungry friends for dinner. We were starving & figured why not just dine at The Manhattan Fish Market? Besides, it never goes wrong.

For starters, a few of us decided to share some Potato Salad ($2.95), Fruits Salad ($2.95) and Cheeesy Chips ($4.95). These basically opened up our appetite because they are so good! Some of us also were served the Cream of Mushroom which is part of the meal upgrade ($5.90) that comes with a drink, and it is quite worth it because the soup is one of the things to be remembered at this restaurant.

Our mains came soon after we were almost done with our appetizers. I was glad that I've ordered my triple treats' Scallops Fish Chicken ($17.95) which was awesome with the spicy sauce. My friends were also happy with their Chicken of Liberty ($13.95) and Fish & Chips ($11.95). Although the Chicken Marinara ($13.95) was served later than expected waiting time, the staff was polite in apologizing on behalf of the kitchen & served it hot later on.

Oh to add on, here's our receipt with at a super nice price. Quite affordable for a pax of 5 considering the many things we've ordered.

Overall, our experience here was great because it was the perfect location for some casual friends gathering. Will definitely be going back again!
