Get Comfy at Olio! Smile Nov 17, 2013

Categories : Bakery | Café

Olio Cafe didn't appear much to me in the beginning because I had thought that it's just a typical restaurant like many others in Lot One. When I found out the interesting menu it has I immediately brought my food buddy along to try things out!

The restaurant adopts a modern chic fine dining alike concept yet somehow it could be the warm lightings or colours that made me feel very comfortable as if it's like a 2nd home.

The menu is pretty sleek and simple but provides an extensive offering of high end quality appetizers, mains, desserts and beverages. There's fusion involved in some of the items incorporating local and western concepts. Some of the pictures shown really could open up hungry stomachs!

I personally find the condiments offering at the side of the table pretty interesting as you don't often see a bottle of olive oil chili instead of typical ketchup and chili sauce.

For starters, I have ordered the Olios Wing Zing ($8.70) as I'm always on the lookout for the best wings in the country. My food buddy find it a tad bit tough but it may be just his mood on that day. I do agree that it could be more tender but the flavour is great, there wasn't much need to dip into the sauce at all!

So he had gotten the Golden Fish & Chips ($16.50) which is true to its name. We were both surprised at the size of the fish as it is almost the size of our faces. The fish was crisp-perfect and I believe a good fried fish fillet would be able to retain its moisture and warmth even after 10minutes and this did! I have no idea how they did it but there's no need for the dip in the sauces either! The thick cut fries were also not too oily nor starchy like other fries I've tried. This dish is really good and definitely worth the price!

As for me I've set my eyes on getting the Seabass Fillet on Lobster Ravioli ($16.80) from the start, I didn't even consider anything else. The dish was nicely plated and presented to me exactly the same way as the picture shown on the menu. The seabass was extremely moist and tender cooked to perfect temperature and timing. The lobster ravioli were bathed in warm lobster bisque that's really yummy and not too salty. The ravioli wasn't as awesome as I've expected because the dough could be made thinner. But overall the fish is the star of the dish so I don't regret this order at all!

Overall, I would really like to visit this place again for other things on their menu. The ambience is my type of environment and the service was really great! The waiter who served me was pleasantly friendly and down-to-earth so it's kind of nice. I also saw that they have a high tea promotion at $15.90 for pax of 2 and that may be the reason why I may end up persuading someone to go back with me again!

Thumbs Up Sakae! Smile Oct 25, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Sushi/Sashimi | Kids-Friendly

So just the other day I happened to be at Northpoint and was craving kind of badly for Japanese cuisine. Decided to have an awesome dinner at Sakae Sushi. The queue was long as usual and my buddy and I had to wait a good 10 minutes for the table with the ordering screen, but you don't have to wait that long for the other tables.
Sakae Ju ($13.99)

Sakae Ju ($13.99)

So I've gotten Sakae Ju ($13.99) which is basically rice topped with lightly grilled savoury salmon mayo, salmon sashimi and spicy salmon. I'm not a fan for salmon but I ordered it just to try it out, really awesome. But this dish is definitely great for salmon lovers.
Saba Nitsuke & Tebasaki ($18.99)

Saba Nitsuke & Tebasaki ($18.99)

My buddy ordered his Saba Nitsuke & Tebasaki ($18.99), which comes with a nice little bowl of rice that shouts "Itakakimasu!" along with a really good simmered mackerel that gives great omega as well as good old honey chicken wings. Simply delectable.
Miso Soup

Miso Soup

Both rice sets come with a bowl of miso soup that has the right consistency of dashi and miso paste. Unlike other restaurants, Sakae Sushi's miso soup gives you the a reasonable generous amount of kept and tofu.
Pink Plate ($4.29)

Pink Plate ($4.29)

Since we sit right next to the sushi conveyor belt, we got ourselves a Pink Plate ($4.29), I am not too sure what's this called but I mean it tasted amazing and is kind of photogenic. So it's awesome!

For desserts! Like seriously they changed their menu so much for the better, they now offer really good stuff.
Kyoto Matcha Azuki Monata & Mochi Ice Cream

Kyoto Matcha Azuki Monata & Mochi Ice Cream

Above is the Kyoto Matcha Azuki Monaka ($4.99) which is a half green tea and half red bean waffle icecream. The icecream could stay inside for awhile without melting & it's kind of fuss-free too. It's like one of the best I've tried. Along with it is some Mochi Ice Cream -2pc ($4.99), I don't prefer mochi alone but mochi with ice cream filling? That's the best. We got the green tea ones but they are also available in red bean, strawberry and mango flavours. But one feedback?

Overall, my experience at Sakae Sushi (Northpoint) was really good compared to my previous experience of bad service and mediocre food. This time round was superb with great service, great food, great ambience and new awesome menu that leaves people with never ending choices! Maybe they should change their dessert plate because the design is kind of not matching to everything else. Still, thumbs up to the new management system for it's overall improvements. I'll definitely return for other items on that menu.

Sexy Thai Food! Smile Oct 15, 2013

Categories : Thai | Restaurant

Specially visited Junction 10 to dine at Porn's because I really like the ambience I get everytime I passes by this place. Besides, I really wanted to satisfy my Thai food craving as well.

Ordered their Young Thai Coconut ($4) to have a taste of Thai. One of them was awesome with fresh soft coconut flesh while another was still unriped and hard. Was kind of disappointed but still have high hopes for the food!

So since I'm a really hardcore fan of all kinds of curries, I couldn't say no to getting their Thai Green Curry ($10.90). The balance of sweet and hint of spicy is just right and it also comes with good chunks of tender chicken meat, lovely eggplant and basil leaves.

And here is how good it looks on my Thai Jasmine Rice ($1).

My eating buddy can't really take spicy food and he decides to go for Pad Thai ($9.90), which is a popular noodle dish in Thailand where you can top with squeezed lime, fish sauce, ground peanuts and sugar. It was not bad but not the best he had tried.

Despite anything, we had to get some sides because there's this dish called the Stuffed Chicken Wing ($8.90) which really attracted my attention. The wings are basically de-boned and then generously stuffed with fillings of chicken, black fungus and vegetables. In my opinion, maybe it could need some more seasonings but they were cooked nicely otherwise, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Towards the end of the meal, we figured we wanted to try some desserts too! So we went ahead to get some Sticky Rice with Durian ($8.90). Although appearance-wise, it may not look that awesome but the durian were really good and the sticky rice was served warm too.

Overall, it was a great experience with quite affordable food considering that portion amount of food. Definitely worthed the try!

Ever since my last visit here, I've been dying to come back to try out other dishes on their menu!

This time I came to try out their Chicken Murtabak ($6)! Honestly, it's my first time trying Murtabak so I don't really have a benchmark to compare to. But overall it tasted really good with a chewy outer layer similar to egg prata and a generously filled delicious chicken bits inside.

I enjoyed my visit a lot and service was prompt as well. For its huge portion and taste, it's worth all the price I paid.

Crepe up to Cloud 9! Smile Dec 20, 2013

Categories : American | Café | Desserts and Cakes

Lady M Confections is a popular cake boutique that is known to attract very long queue in the upper east side of New York City, mainly for their famous Mille Crepe Cake. This boutique prides itself on creating the freshest finest cakes and desserts accompanied with aromatic tea and coffee. I have queued for 10 minutes on a Saturday night at 8pm to enjoy a heavenly experience.

Let's start from the best! Their signature Lady M Mille Crepe ($7.50) was surprising affordable considering the brand and the complexity of perfecting this cake. It may seem very plain and simple but don't judge! Never judge. We were told by the waitress at 8.10pm that they only left 2 slices of this and asked whether we wanted it before it's gone. Regrettably, we only ordered 1 slice, the most regretful decision I've made that day! This slice basically brought us up to heaven, the perfectly caramelized golden top with exactly 20 thin meticulously handmade crepes covered with layers of sweet pastry cream was more than amazing, the best cake I've ever had this entire year of 2013!

We then got ourselves the Strawberry Shortcake ($7.50), which was great too. Light and pure in nature with sweet cream and delicious fresh strawberries, the vanilla spongecake was something I miss having for a long time.

We also got their Tarte aux Fruits ($10), which may seem the prettiest among all 3 cakes we had that night but not the best I've tried. It's not that bad with all the fresh fruits, but nowhere near the taste I get from the mille crepe in comparison. A good try nevertheless!

Overall, I wasn't expecting to experience a heavenly moment here. Everything served here was great! Appearance wise, the mille crepe may not be the best. But in terms of taste and quality, I say I wouldn't mind coming back just to take away up to 10 slices of their signature for my family.
