Paris Tea Time! OK Dec 14, 2013
Categories : Korean | Bakery | Desserts and Cakes | Burgers and Sandwiches | Salads/ Acai Bowl

It's tea time at Paris Baguette again!
This time my friend and I didn't ordered any bread/cakes as we were kind of full from our lunch. But there's always something to try at this cafe so we decided to go for some lovely beverages!

I've gotten their Espresso, it was supposed to come in heart-shaped coffee art so I was kind of disappointed. The coffee was very strong in flavour but remained light to drink with at the same time. Did a really good job perking me up with the strong caffeine.

My friend ordered their Strawberry Latte because the name itself was very attractive. However, the generously filled cup was so sour to the extent we didn't believe that any latte was supposed to taste like this. But this explains a lot about the natural ingredients, we didn't blame them because the strawberries they used happened to be really sour as well!

Overall, despite some disappointments, I would still return back to try out other items on their menu! Hopefully they can expand their outlet or something because enjoying tea can be a guilty event when we see other customers finding seats.

QQ Rice! OK Nov 20, 2013
Categories : Taiwanese

QQ rice is a takeaway kiosk selling rice rolls with more than 20 varieties of delicious stuffing. Their grain rice comprises of mixed grain, purple, brown to wheat germ brown rice and are lower in calories than ordinary white rice.

I've wanted to try their rice roll but since I was in a rush the other day, I simply grabbed their pre-packed onigiri rice. Their Emperor Veg ($2) is a vegetarian option.

Also got the Chicken Floss ($2.50) and it's really interesting how the different colours of grain look like. The fillings are all centered in generously.

Although there may be times when I feel like the rice are a little hard for my liking, they're still a good alternative option to have other than sushi.

Taiwan's 5 Little Bears! OK Nov 14, 2013
Categories : Taiwanese | Chinese | Restaurant

Have been longing to visit 5 Little Bears since forever! Came here for lunch with my friends after collecting my OpenRice Hungry Games' prizes!

Although I've never been to Taiwan, their interior has made me feel like I'm at some street cafés along some typical Taiwan streets.

Their fried chicken at their order stations looked so tempting but I didn't order it because my throat wasn't feeling that well, definitely would try during my 2nd visit though!

So I've gotten the Taiwan Soup Noodles Set ($5.50) which comes with a drink, you can choose between red tea, green tea or winter melon tea. This bowl reminds me of the Singapore style prawn noodles, except that it's topped with minced pork and braised egg. The portion is reasonably generous. The soup was fine but possibly a tad bit salty, the noodle and egg was alright. There's no wow factor anywhere but I call experiences like this "I should have ordered something else to try."

I have also gotten the Eight Treasures Ice ($6) which looks fantastic with the generous amount of eight different toppings (pearls, red bean, green bean, grass jelly, taro jelly, sweet potato jelly, barley and peanuts). All the ingredients were great! But the reasons I couldn't finish it was not because of the portion, but rather the tiring chewing and the overall combination. I'm not too sure whether this is authentic but it can be improved by giving us the option of adding milk or other syrups, as well as the option of $2/$4/$6 in terms of portion.

Despite some disappointments, I hardly give up on a dining place entirely because I always try to believe that I might have just ordered the wrong items. Besides, everything are pretty affordable too. Therefore I would most likely return to try out other items, especially the fried chicken!

Fish & Chips OK Nov 12, 2013
Categories : Food Court

This western stall at Koufu sells pretty extensive western cuisine that allows customers to choose their sides.

Have ordered the Fish and Chips ($3.90) which I've gotten some fries to go with it. Was upset of paying that price for that amount of portion, the fish was crispy but kind of bland. None of the items were served warm or hot so it was kind of disappointing. Wedges and fries were fine but not exactly flavoured without any good sauce. Overall this may not be a recommended item to order.

XW - More Can Be Done! OK Nov 08, 2013
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong

Decide to dine at Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe for some decent Asian dinner one night, service wasn't as efficient as we were waiting at the queue for quite awhile despite seeing empty tables, this outlet always seem to be short-staffed.

So anyway I've got myself the Sliced Fish & Egg Papaya Soup Noodle ($8-10), couldn't remember the exact price. The light soup base was savoury with hint of sweet papaya taste and the dish also comes with hard boiled egg which I believe would be better if it's its half boiled, the corn and sliced fish was okay. I wouldn't order again because it's something I believe I can easily whip up at home.

My friend got the Macau Style Fried Noodle ($6.90), it's not that awesome but at least it was flavorful in a reasonably generous amount. But then again I wouldn't order this next time because it kind of has the instant noodle feel to it though.

Despite some disappointments, there's always room for desserts! My friend and I shared the famous XW Special Mango Snow Ice ($6.90) which is always one of the must order in their menu. As you can see, the portion is generously sufficient even to be shared, we couldn't finish it. The mango sauce were not too sweet and the mango bits and ice cream compliments well together.

A suggestion to this place? A huge improvement they can make is to serve customers sitting at the same table their orders together. From past experiences, my friend and I would always have to start eating first before all our orders come together, it's kind of disappointing at that part. Menu and service level can also be worked on. Overall, the reasons I still return are because of convenience and the restaurant's operating hours. Would be nice to see more improvements in the near future.
