Dine in Fairytail! Smile Dec 14, 2013
Categories : European

Not long ago I found myself dining in Garden of Eden.

After reading reviews from several bloggers, my buddy and I decided to come here for a try! We heard that they needed reservations for most of the tables inside but they do have other tables for walk-in customers. Initially we were skeptical as we thought that we may not get some good ambience, then later we find that we were given a really sweet spot!

The fairytail styled carriage was one of the many interesting assets they have. The bar corner was also a nice idea for customers who simply wanted peace and drinks. One of the staff recommended that we walked around the restaurant to take pictures if we want to, and we saw this situated in front of a mini-bridge.

The rest of the restaurant also provide customers with really lovely setting and this is probably why they strongly encouraged customers to book reservations in advance because ambience is one of the unique selling point of this restaurant.

Complimentary garlic bread was served before we even looked through the menu, service was really efficient.

My buddy decided to order the Carbonara ($18), it may be a tad bit expensive but I had a spoonful, and it was one of the best carbonara I've ever had! The linguine was cooked perfectly with hint of garlic and really flavourful bacon creamed sauce, topped with crispy bacon bits. The taste was simply unforgettable and a few days after this experience, I craved for carbonara for a few times, that says a lot because I'm not a fan of creamed pasta.

For myself, I went with the Orange Duck Confit ($28). The duck leg was marinated in orange and thyme then cooked to crisp-tender form, served with roasted potatoes and ratatouille and drizzled with orange sauce. I wished that the portion was larger because it was a really amazing dish! It's hard to describe in words so I would recommend that you could try it out yourself!

It's hard to believe when I rave to people that the food here are awesome because they tend to be always think that the restaurant would focus on the ambience and service more than food. But seriously, the food are what completes this restaurant. Overall, everything experienced here was more than satisfying and this may be the main reason why its called Blisshouse, because customers would definitely feel bliss throughout the way! Perfect place for couples or any other gatherings!

Lenas by Ministry of Food is one of those restaurants that offers a variety fusion food. Their massive menu selection comprises mostly of Japanese-Western fusion showing delicious looking modern and classic dishes like pizzas, pastas and mains to lovely appetizers like bruschetta. The ambience also portrayed a comfortable warm setting that really matches the theme of fusion-dining.

My friend and I shared the Tomato Bruschetta, this Italian appetizer was a wonderful start to our appetite as the flavours of fresh tomatoes on crisp-soft bread tasted so amazing! A definite must-order for appetizers.

We also shared the Buffalo Wings which was served piping hot, it came with some interesting sweet chilli sauce but the wings were so flavourful on their own that I didn't find a need to dip. It was fried to perfection and wasn't greasy as well.

For my main, I decided to go with the Pesto Chicken Pasta. The pesto sauce was the perfect blend of crush garlic and basil among other ingredients and it was very delicious! A healthy and light comfort food indeed!

My friend went with the Hamburger Omelette Rice. The omelette was more soft and fluffy than you see it on picture! It's really good and goes especially well with the thick Japanese curry. I didn't try the beef but my friend said she might consider ordering it again, so it must be good!

Overall, my dining experience here at Lenas was more than satisfying. The service may not be exceptional but they served all the basic needs we requested. The food will always be the reason for returning!

Paris Tea Time! OK Dec 14, 2013

It's tea time at Paris Baguette again!
This time my friend and I didn't ordered any bread/cakes as we were kind of full from our lunch. But there's always something to try at this cafe so we decided to go for some lovely beverages!

I've gotten their Espresso, it was supposed to come in heart-shaped coffee art so I was kind of disappointed. The coffee was very strong in flavour but remained light to drink with at the same time. Did a really good job perking me up with the strong caffeine.

My friend ordered their Strawberry Latte because the name itself was very attractive. However, the generously filled cup was so sour to the extent we didn't believe that any latte was supposed to taste like this. But this explains a lot about the natural ingredients, we didn't blame them because the strawberries they used happened to be really sour as well!

Overall, despite some disappointments, I would still return back to try out other items on their menu! Hopefully they can expand their outlet or something because enjoying tea can be a guilty event when we see other customers finding seats.

Beer Market is one of my favourite bars to go when I simply want to catch up with my friends! The interesting concept of stock market style beer prices caught my attention from the start as they fluctuates up and down according to demand level every 15mins.

Since I'm not a pro drinker or anything, I would just always try to order different cocktails and beer to try out.

Besides the alcohol, they do have an interesting menu with local flavours incorporated! Have ordered their Baked Honey Glazed BBQ Wings ($10) and it's one of the nicest wings I've tried compared to several other bars. The wings also comes in crispy and spicy.

The Satay Platter - 8pc ($6) was also really good! Regretted so much not getting more but the grill was so tender and juicy. Service was prompt as it came to pretty fast, served hot.

There was also the Carrot Cake ($10)! I can't really tell how they cooked it differently compared to the ones we get outside but this was delicious! The chili was really hot and spicy as well but matches really well with the overall flavour of the carrot cake which gave me a distinctive taste.

Overall, I enjoyed myself pretty much here. The wide variety of the beers and cocktails along with the service, ambience and awesome food would definitely attract me to going back! Will try to go earlier next time to get lower beer prices!

Slice Your Icecream! Smile Dec 11, 2013

Categories : Middle Eastern/Mediterranean | Café | Ice Cream and Gelato

After having lunch at another place in Jem, we were craving for desserts and my buddy & I went straight to Mado! It was the one place that I've always wanted to try one month before Jem opened. I'm sure many around me have heard me raving about this place again & again.

We got the Sliced Icecream - Original & Pistachio ($11.50) to share! Normal ice creams you find out there are totally made from cow's milk, gelatin and other artificial flavours. These sliced maras cut are natural organic stuff from goat's milk and Salep, a type of Turkish flour. The ice cream itself not only tasted flavour-rich and of high quality, the consistency is also perfected so that it doesn't melt easily. Recommended way of eating? With your knife & fork, it's slice-able! I was upset with the hole in my pockets but nevertheless, I still love this plate so much I'm rating it 5/5. It's worth it!

This cafe also serves halal Turkish food, pastries, ice cream & fine beverages. Unfortunately, we only had enough space for desserts and also there for one thing - the ice cream. So I can't give reviews about the other stuff. By the way, it's not easy to find Turkish ice cream in Singapore anymore, the fun tricky one at Far East Plaza already closed down long ago. So this place would probably be the place I'd go the next time I crave for chewy ice cream.
