Visited Swensen's again! My buddy decide that he'll treat this time so I went ahead and ordered a good looking Juicy Game Hen with Homemade BBQ Sauce ($16.90), which was more than amazing! The succulent young game hen was fried and roasted for a perfectly golden brown skin, with tender juicy flesh enough to easily be separately from the bone! The BBQ sauce was very flavourful as well, such that there's I dipped the fries with those instead of my usual ketchup.

My buddy ordered another attractive dish, the Crispy Cornflake Chicken ($15.50). Some tender succulent moist boneless chicken is hiding behind the crispy coat of crunchy golden cornflakes. Every bite was full of flavour and texture, simply irresistible!

We also got ourselves The Rock ($9.50) to share! It comes with 3 signature flavours of hazelnut, cookies & cream and rocky road, garnished beautifully with marshmallow sauce, hot caramel, cocoa pops and wafers. Dry ice was beneath the dish that also created the smoky-icy look when it was served, it was very interesting!

Overall, I enjoyed myself to the fullest at this outlet whereby I received friendly service along with prompt arrival of food. Portion and quality of food matches their prices as well.

Always a good neighbourhood hangout place for me! Visited twice in the past to try and have already tried their sides, waffles, cocktail and desserts. So this was my first time trying their main items!

Have ordered their Gratin Chicken ($14.90), which is basically is a really well-seasoned grilled chicken accompanied by fresh baby potatoes and vegetabeles topped with sweet slice of am and cheese served on sizzling hotplate! It was really good.

Also ordered their Grilled Boneless Chicken Leg ($12.90), where the tender chicken was deboned perfectly, accompanied with baby potatoes and vegetables too, topped with delicious mushroom sauce. Its similar to the gratin chicken but the chicken here may be more tender for some reasons. Love the flavour!

Will always come back for more! Would probably try their escargots the next time.

Dean & DeLuca! OK Dec 19, 2013

I've held pretty high expectations about Dean & Deluca at Orchard Central. If you don't already know, it's an up-market brand in New York that sells premium groceries but also has a good bakery and cafe.

Learned that they adopt the self-service concept and customers basically read from the large menu board above the counter to order. Got myself the Chicken Burrito ($22), because it has some really nice ingredients such as ancho chicken, black bean, tomato salsa, guacamole, jack and cheese in tortilla wrap. I love all the flavours and texture of the ingredients combined, but for some reasons I wasn't impressed and the overall taste felt like something I could make at home. The burrito were hard and tough to bite despite the flavours. However, I did like the chips and salad.

My friend got himself the Italian Meatball ($22), made out of Italian pork and beef with marinara sauce on bread. The hero of the dish, the meatballs, tasted tough too. We were not sure what went wrong on that day but it sure was a pretty stable weekday early evening.

Overall, I visited this place with high hopes but left with disappointments. The food weren't bad, they were just .. too average to be priced like that. If only they price things lower and rid away the self-service concept, I may consider visiting again. For now, no. However, I do fancy their fresh grocery selection with really interesting premium ingredients.

Can't Be Any Better! Smile Dec 19, 2013

My favourite fried chicken place in Singapore! Location may not be at all convenient to me but I was willing to head down whenever I have the craving, it's worth the trip!

Have ordered their Spring Chicken ($10.70) this time around, it may look ordinary like what I see at some hawker centres or coffee shops, but no no no, you can't judge it on its own! The chicken was served piping hot as I was able to still see the smoke even after eating half of it. It's amazing how they can fry it to the right timing to make it so crispy, tender and juicy yet able to rid all the excess oil at the same time. The fries and colesaw were also great and complements the hero of the dish really well.

If you haven't try it out already, do it! Trust me, it's always worth the trip!

Sophie's Bakery! Smile Dec 19, 2013

This little bakery caught my attention, both the exterior and interior were made of simple furnishings yet the shop was able to give out a sort of French rustic ambience.

Decided to give it a try and I bought their White Chocolate Chip Bun ($1.90), it may look hard and average on the outside, but it actually tasted really good with every bite. The density of the bread paired with the sweet aroma of white chocolate chips made a great combination!
