Yummy Char Siew Buns! OK Oct 22, 2013

Finally got a chance to try this 1-star Michelin HK dim sum eatery at Plaza Singapura! It's a long waiting time of over an hour during dinner time.

The 3 of us being foodies happily check the order form & ended up with 9 items, with some double portions! Very soon, the table was filled with all the items. We first tucked into its pan-fried carrot cake. If you like your carrot cake filled with lots of radish bits, this will be a not bad choice.

Next, we had the Chicken Mushroom steamed rice with lup cheong. My fren, S who loves to cook commented that the rice is fragrant. All of us like this.

When the Char Siew buns were served, I was the first the try it! It's really scrumptious! I like the savoury taste of the sauce & the milky crust of the bun. So glad that we had ordered 2 servings, as each only have 3 buns. After whacking 2 buns, started to fill abit full...

We went on to try the other items such as siew mai, har gow, prawn cheong fun & liver cheong fun. None of these wow us sad The steamed beef balls were the ultimatium as there is a strong beef taste! Really regretted ordering that. Finally, we tried the Malay Cake which is one of the Four Heavenly King - their signature dishes. I like its Malay Cake, which is soft & fluffy, yet the sweetness is just nice.

Overall, we were disappointed at the standard of the dim sum. The only reason we would return will definitely be the char siew buns! I wish that Tim Ho Wan set up a take-away counter just to sell this hot favourite!

My Favourite Udon Eatery!  Smile Oct 16, 2013

I came to know about Tamoya Udon from its Facebook page. This is my 2nd visit to Tamoya, however is my first try at the Chinatown Point outlet. This outlet is located at Basement 1, near to Uniqlo. My first impression of this outlet is its spaciousness.

Tamoya's style of ordering is you get to pick & match your choice of tempura from the bar counter. There is quite a variety to suit different taste! Personally, I go for the Ebi Tempura, Shitake Mushrooms & Potato Tempura. I like to share the various tempura with my friend. This trip was mainly to check out its Beef Udon (Kake Style).

Upon selecting your choice of tempura/sides, you just need to hand over to the counter & make your payment. Next, head over to the condiments section for some garnishing such as the crispy flakes, wakame seaweed and sauce. There is also free flow of ice water and soup refill available.

My first reaction when I tried the beef slices, it's simply oishiitongue! The thin slices of sweet & salty beef were cooked just right; not too stiff & the taste suits my taste bud perfectly! The hand-made udon immersed in the light Kake broth was chewy! yummy! Even my friend who is not a 100% beef lover agreed with me that the beef udon is nice!

I will return again to Tamoya to try its other dishes, maybe the Curry Udon next round!
