So, one of my favourite fast food chain has just released a new burger and potato snack!

For a fast food outlet, this branch was quite nicely decorated and warmly lit which made it quite an inviting place to dine and chat in. We went for a weekday dinner and the place was crowded, but the noise level was tolerable, which made it an ideal place to have a meal and chill with friends.

We placed our orders at the counter and we were lucky to be served by a bubbly staff who was friendly and upbeat despite the late hour and dinnertime crowd, although we had to wait quite a while for the food to be prepared and delivered to our table.

Red Grilled Chicken Set without Cheese ($7.70)
The Red Grilled Chicken Set without cheese costs $7.70 while the Red Grilled Chicken Set with cheese costs $8.00. The set comes with fries and a soft drink. If you get just the burger only, it will cost $4.00 without cheese and $4.30 with cheese. I got the set without cheese for myself. The grilled chicken was quite juicy while the red tomato sauce was tangy, but I didn't find the sauce to be sufficient enough for the meat so the burger ended up tasting a little bland. Don't hold me to my word, but I suspected that the burger with cheese might be slightly more flavourful. I supposed it was really my fault for omitting the cheese as I wanted a "healthier option" especially since this burger was supposed to come "without an abundance of calories" (so they say) but what the heck, nobody eats burgers to be healthy.

Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on your appetite), Mos Burger's burgers tend to be smaller in portion compared to the burgers at American fast food outlets like McDonalds, so the portion of the burger was just nice for me, but people with a voracious appetite might find it a tad lacking in size and not very filling.

Prosperity Coin ($1.00)
The usual price was $1.50 but if you get this with the Red Grilled Chicken Set, then it cost only $1.00 for 3 pieces. This was basically hash brown in the shape of a small round coin. This tasted like what a normal hash brown tasted like. It was quite crispy on the outside and was also quite aromatic from the oil used to fry it.

Overall, I think the Red Grilled Chicken Burger would be quite decent especially if there was more red tomato sauce to go with the meat. But if you ask me, this wasn't something that I'd make a return trip to Mos Burger for. I personally still preferred their Chicken Burger or Tsukune Rice Burger. While we both agreed that the Prosperity Coin was nice, when it comes to Mos Burger however, I'd rather get their Potato Croquette instead. But, that's just me.

So, 3 stars for taste for the Red Grilled Chicken Burger, and 5 stars for the rest of my favourite food from Mos Burger as listed under "Recommended Dish(es)" below! lol

Categories : Taiwanese | Bubble Tea/ Tea

There are so many bubble tea shops at Causeway Point but ShareTea is quite conveniently located at the MRT station which makes it ideal to grab a drink on the way home without having to go into the mall. After our meal at Ananas Cafe, we decided to buy bubble tea to quench our thirst and ShareTea was our nearest option.

There are quite a range of bubble tea here from their "Brewed Tea" and "Milk Tea" series to "Authentic Japan" and "Artisan Creme" series. I was initially thinking of buying the Ume Plum Fruit Tea but we noticed that they had Hokkaido Milk Tea and Okinawa Milk Tea which looked pretty tempting, and so we ended up getting the Hokkaido Milk Tea and Honey Green Tea.

Honey Green Tea with Black Pearls (Medium, 50% Sugar) ($2.20)
The Green Tea was quite aromatic but we both agreed that it kind of overshadowed the honey taste, while was mild at best. At 50% sugar level, this wasn't too sweet and was quite refreshing. The black pearls were also smooth and chewy and the portion given was quite decent.

Hokkaido Milk Tea with White Pearls (Medium, 50% Sugar) ($3.20 + $0.60 for White Pearls)
On first sip, we were hit with the intense flavour of caramel. This was also quite milky which I liked. However, unlike the Honey Green Tea, this Milk Tea was quite sweet even at a sugar level of 50%. The white pearls cost an additional $0.60 to add on but the portion given was quite generous. These white pearls were firmer and a tad rougher and harder to chew than the black pearls. Personally though, I wasn't too keen on the taste and texture of the white pearls and would give this add-on a miss the next time.

The bubble tea here was a little pricey but the taste, especially for the Hokkaido Milk Tea, was quite good. I liked that you can choose to "customize" the sugar level and also the ingredients to add on if you wish. The counter staff was also very friendly and helpful and I was surprised that despite our messy ordering description, he keyed in our orders right on the first try. Thumb up for service! For the price though, these bubble tea drinks are going to be an once-in-a-while treats for us, but after trying the Hokkaido Milk Tea, which I'd highly recommend, I am pretty keen to try the Okinawa Milk Tea in the near future!

Korean & Japanese Food Smile Jan 20, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Korean | Coffeeshop

This stall at Woodgrove attempts to appeal to fans of both Korean and Japanese food by offering a variety of Korean BBQ hotplates as well as Japanese Bento Sets. The Korean hotplate is available in a variety of options such as the BBQ Saba Fish Set ($5.00) and Hotplate Black Pepper Chicken Set ($5.80), while the Japanese bento set comes with options ranging from the Chicken Salad/Teriyaki Chicken Bento ($4.90) to Teriyaki Salmon Bento ($5.50). There are also a variety of ramen here such as the Chicken/Pork Ramen ($3.50) and Kimchi Beef or Chicken Ramen ($4.50). In addition, there is a limited selection of other popular dishes like the Korean Bibimbap here, but we couldn't help but notice that the Japanese Oyakodon was missing from its menu.

Korean BBQ Chicken Set ($5.00)
The BBQ chicken was quite tender but it was rather mild and not very spicy. We liked that it had a slight smokey flavour which we enjoyed. The portion of the chicken given was also quite decent. This set came with a bowl of white rice, smooth and tasty Korean egg soup with tofu cubes, and sides of spicy and sour kimchi and anchovies, which was unfortunately a tad too soft for our liking. For $5.00, we thought this was pretty decent although we'd have love the BBQ chicken to be spicier.

Chicken & Gyoza Japanese Bento Set ($5.90)
This bento set came looking really appetizing with rice topped with black sesame seeds, fried chicken in sweet sauce, gyoza and two slices of watermelon. It also came with the same soup as the Korean BBQ set although we were expecting miso soup. But for $5.90, we agreed that this was rather worth the price, both portion-wise and taste-wise. The chicken was crispy and the sauce was very smooth and sweet. The gyoza were also quite crispy at the edges and the tasty vegetable and meat filling inside were juicy and soupy but not soggy. This bento set was my favourite out of all the dishes we ordered and I'd recommend giving their bento sets a try!

Fried Chicken Ramen ($3.50)
Compared to the chicken in the bento set, the fried chicken here was a tad tough and felt a little overcooked. Nevertheless, it was still tasty when dipped into the mayonnaise. The ramen was the highlight in this dish as the noodle was quite smooth and chewy although it felt a tiny wee bit starchy to me. The portion given was also quite generous and the soup base was light but tasty and came topped with vegetables and mushroom slices. At $3.50, this was really quite affordable.

Overall, the prices here were more or less expected of Korean and Japanese food and we agreed that the taste of the food here were not bad. Although this was a self service stall, we found their service to be quite okay as well and it helped that the stall owners were prompt with our food. Considering that this was at a coffee shop, we weren't really expecting much of the environment, however, we were slightly irked when we came during dinner time on a weekday only to find that many of the empty seats inside, even those near the Korean & Japanese stall, were all "choped" by the zichar stall for non-existing customers. Because of that, I'd suggest going slightly earlier for whatever few tables are still available if you do not want to wait for a seat or sit outside at the smoking corner.

Ice Blend Blue Coral!  Smile Jan 20, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Taiwanese | Bubble Tea/ Tea

This Sweet Heart Shop is located at the corner of Blk 325 and has been around for quite some time. They have quite a range of beverages such as the Pearl Milk Tea/Red Tea/Green Tea ($1.30), Special Blend Milk Tea with flavours like Caramel or Hazelnut ($1.50), Ice Soda ($1.50), Ice Blend ($1.50), Snow Shake or Milk Shake ($1.70), Yoghurt Drink ($1.80), Oreo Ice Blend and Choco & Coffee Ice Blend ($2.00). Depending on the range, you can choose from a variety of flavours like Chocolate and Strawberry to others like Peppermint, Honeydew and Sour Plum. For those craving for desserts, there are also dessert beverages such as Red Bean, Chendol or Honeydew Sago ($1.70). There is really quite a variety here and reading the menu can be a little time-consuming since the menu for some of the drinks like the Special Blend Milk Tea, Ice Soda and Desserts are placed separately from the main menu signboard.

Waffle - Plain ($0.90)
If you want some food to go with your drink, they are also selling waffles here. At first, I thought the plain waffle was quite affordable at $0.90, although you can add toppings like Peanut Butter and Kaya for an additional price. I got the plain waffle to try but this came out overcooked. The outside was quite crispy but unfortunately so was the inside, which was hard and not chewy as I'd like. The pandan taste was also rather lacking. I'd probably just give this a miss the next time.

Ice Blend Blue Coral ($1.50)
I was glad to see that they have Blue Coral here and got the Ice Blend Blue Coral. I also requested for no pearls which the stall owner compiled with. The ice was blended pretty smoothly and the taste was just the right amount of sweet and milky for me. Overall, this was pretty refreshing and I was more than willing to part with $1.50 for this lovely Blue Coral.

The prices of the other drinks here are quite affordable as well and I think the bubble tea and ice blend beverages are quite decent. I'd suggest just going for the drinks here and give the waffle a skip unless you just need something cheap to fill your stomach.

Delectable Cakes @ Rive Gauche Smile Jan 19, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : French | Bakery

Passing by the elegant Rive Gauche kiosk at Jcube, I decided on a whim to buy some of the pretty cakes that were on display and dragged my friend along. We were greeted by a young salesgirl who was quite polite, although there was an older staff who kept trying to whisper and distract her even though the younger staff was clearly trying to attend to us. We weren't too impressed with the older staff but we appreciated the attentiveness of the younger staff.

After some deliberation, I ended up buying a few items for myself.

Madeleine ($3.50 for 5pcs)
There were 4 raspberry flavoured Madeleine and only 1 Chocolate Madeleine which was a tad disappointing for me at first as I generally prefer chocolate. But it turned out that the chocolate wasn't very rich and the raspberry flavour actually tasted much better. These little sponge cakes were also quite buttery and spongy.

Mont Blanc ($6.50)
Look-wise, it wasn't really the round, dome shaped Mont Blanc that I was expecting, but this was quite decent in taste overall. The vanilla sponge cake was very soft and light and I liked that the chestnut filling was not too sweet although I found the chestnut cream to be a tad "oily". Neverthless, I enjoyed the cake, although I liked the other one I bought a lot more!

Crunchy Cheese Crumbs ($5.80)
This light cheesecake with cookie crumbs came looking really cute in a little round bowl and was simply amazing to taste! The cheesecake was smooth with a light cheesy taste which I thought balanced quite well with the crumbly biscuit crumbs which had bits of chocolate in it and was sweet. The cookie that came with it was a tad soft but the white chocolate piece was quite crunchy. Overall, this was just sooooo delicious and I couldn't get enough of it!

Overall, I think the cakes at Rive Gauche are quite good and I'd recommend giving the Crunchy Cheese Crumbs a try! It's so good that I'm considering getting the larger version of this cake for a birthday! lol The prices were also quite reasonable especially considering the quality of the cakes here. They also sell other pastries and confections, like the Eclairs, Brownies, Meringue and Cookies, which I'd definitely check out on my future trips to Rive Gauche!
