Set Meals and A Lot More OK Mar 15, 2011
Categories : Fusion | Seafood

This restaurant serves Thai, Chinese and Local cuisine, in addition to Western Cuisine.
They offer a variety of set meals or you could add $5.80 to convert a main dish into a set.
All the deals come with a warm bun, a soup of the day, a main course, dessert and coffe/tea/cold drink.
There were 3 choices for Soup of The Day - Creamy Clam Chowder, Clear Vegetable Soup or Special Chinese Soup. We chose the Clam Chowder - and we had no regrets!
It was really creamy and tasty.
One main dish was the Claypot Seafood Noodle - this contained a variety and lots of seafood and was a really big serving.
The other main dish - Chicken Chop with Chipolata Sausage- was not up to my expectations.
The chicken had not been marinated properly and the creamy sauce didnt go well with the chicken. The chicken had not been grilled well and the fries were a little soggy.
The fresh, boiled vegatables that came with the dish were good, especially the baby carrots.
For dessert, there was a choice of Pandan Cake, Watermelon or BeanCurd.
We chose watermelon, as we preferred something lighter.
After the chicken chop, the slice of watermelon was refreshing.
The set meal deals were indeed good, but I guess i had picked the wrong main dish.
Will try something local in the future...

Not the best steak in town! OK Mar 03, 2011

Categories : Restaurant | Steaks and Grills

The food we tried didnt really live up to the name of this restaurant.
'The main culprit was the Lamb Chops, although we had asked for it to be Well Done,
it wasnt done to our satifaction.
For the price paid, the sides and main dish were not value for money.
The lemon lime chicken was just oke, but the onion rings were too oily.
The mushroom soup was the saving grace for the day.

A Touch of Penang? OK Dec 25, 2010
Categories : Malaysian | Restaurant | Halal | Noodles

The name of this restaurant attracted me - having been to Penang and actually visited the real place.
The seating arrangement provided various options - we chose the table and chairs.
The design of the restaurant meant a huge pillar just behind our chair and there wasnt much room if one wanted to get in or out.
The menu provided a good variety of Penang fare - however, there wasnt much difference between the Penang Fried Koay Teow and Premium Keow Teow, even though there was a $3 difference in price.
The stuffed beancurd was good - tofu with lettuce and vegetables stuffed in it.
The chicken satay meat was not juicy and there was no rice cake.
The grilled stingray was spicy and yummy.
The Chendol lacked flavor...something was missing.
The service could have been better - the waitress struggled to repeat my order, and blamed me when she brought the wrong item!
She served me the food without any cutlery, which I eventually had to ask for.
The open window concept meant that many flies found their way in and that did not make the meal very appetizing.

Justice for Thai Express? OK Dec 07, 2010
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Thai

An interesting name, but what got me to go in was the fact that it was by Thai Express.
80% of the menu is the Thai Express with 20% of the items being signature items.
The food was OK, but the service left much to be desired.
The staff were competing with one another on whose turn it was to take orders.
There was clearly some unhappiness among them.
The worst part was that the manager was actually training his staff in a busy restaurant,
That part really spoilt the whole dining experience!!

Spending per head: Approximately $20(Dinner)

This new restaurant opened in Serangoon Gardens a few months ago and it is slowly attracting the crowds.
The restaurant serves authentic Indian Fish Head Curry and seafood and meat dishes.
It is the first of its kind in this area, and is a great place to dine in.

The ambience of the restaurant is welcoming and it allows diners to relax and enjoy the delectable Indian cuisine
in traditional style - on banana leaves. The interior is tastefully decorated to showcase Indian culture.
From the outside, it looks a little small on space; but one is in for a surprise on entering, because it is actually very spacious and roomy.

Well, as for the food, I am not a Fish Head Curry lover, so we decided to try the meat set meals instead.
The set meals come with either white rice or briyani rice, 2 vegetables and a meat dish.
We tried two different types of mutton dishes - Mutton Masala and Mutton Mysore.
The former comprised mutton chops cooked in a thick gravy and the latter was mutton cubes cooked with a dry gravy.
Both dishes tasted delicious, especially the Mutton Masala.
The Briyani sets also came with Indian pickles or achar - and it went really well with the food.
The additional Fish Cutlet was good as well.
The vegetables were not overcooked and retained their flavour; but my favourite vegetable dish was the
Lady's Finger - fried dry. This dish was made by frying dried lady's fingers and it was absolutely Mmmm!!!
The meals also came with a choice of gravy and Indian soup (raasam), not forgetting, Papadams.

The service was friendly and fast. From the moment we entered the restaurant, the staff were there to see
to our needs. The food was really good value for money as it was reasonably priced and served in generous portions.
The food was not too spicy and did not overuse flavourings - everything was 'natural'!
The taste of cooking reminded us of home-cooked goodness...they were both similar!

The food really has an authentice, traditional flavour to it. That one visit will definitely NOT be my last.
Actually, it wasn't and I was back there again the very next week ;)
I guess nobody can resist gastronomic delights...I can't!
