Breakfast - for a change! Smile Jun 29, 2011

It was a sleepy Sunday morning as we made our way to NEX - the new shopping mall in Serangoon. We were looking for a cosy place for breakfast when we chanced upon the Swensen's outlet, that was open and serving breakfast till 11am.
We decided to give it a try and didn't regret it at all.
The breakfast menu was loaded with goodies and there was a special section for the kids as well.
We tried the Pancakes set, Breakfast special set, and kids meals - for the kids.
The Pancakes Set was simply superb - with the scrambled eggs, cheesy sausages and creamy mushrooms. The mushrooms were especially delicious - with their creamy flavour.
The Special Breakfast set had french toast, eggs, herb sausages and mushrooms.
It was good to taste French Toast after a long time.
We seldom have a proper breakfast like this nowadays with our hectic schedules, so this was a welcome change indeed.
The kIds meals arrived in kiddy plates and even the hash browns - with the sun. moon and stars - were customised to delight the kids.
Every adults meal set came with Coffee or Tea and a juice.
The prices were really reasonable , considering the amount of food and variety in each meal set.
It was a hearty breakfast and we felt gorged when we left, so we had to skip lunch!!

We were all famished when we got there, so we started ordering straightaway!
Appetisers were Chicken wings and Calamari - both tasty and chewy!
Another must have was the Root Beer Float - a signature item on the menu!
For the main course we had chicken, lamb with fish and pasta.
We also ordered desserts later and ended the night with cake cutting.
The friendly and helpful staff arranged for a simple birthday song as well - everything was done impromptu and fast!
The meat portions were huge and the roast chicken in the pasta was crispy!
The Brownie was heavenly with ice cream and the Peach Melba - after a long time-
was a good change.
Overall it was a memorable celebration with great food and a fantastic ambience!

Fusion Cusine At Its Best Smile Jun 17, 2011

Categories : Singaporean | Restaurant | Kids-Friendly

This restaurant has become one of my favourites and I make it a point to go there at least once in two weeks.
Im also making it a point to try different dishes from their extensive menu.
For this visit, we tried the Nasi Bukhari -a relative of Nasi Briyani, but with a slightly different flavour, and, definitely less oily.
The set comes with a special pickle, achar, fried chicken and beef rendang.
We asked to change that to chicken rendang instead.
If you want more rice, you can order an extra serving as well.
We then ordered two made to order vegetable dishes - kai lan and lady's fingers - stir fried with garlic and minus oyster sauce.
That's the best part of the vegetable and seafood menu - you can have it your way.
To top that we had mixed fruit juice - green apple and orange - simply refreshing!
With a cozy ambience and great service, I will be back to see Grandma soon!
Refreshing fresh juice!

A Touch of Indonesia in Thailand Smile Apr 27, 2011

Categories : Thai | Indonesian | Vegetarian | Halal

A very unique name indeed, I thought. I had always seen this restaurant, but never ventured in.
The gracious waitresses explained that they served both Indonesian and Thai food, but more of the latter.
I was keen to try my favourite- Tahu Telur - tofu, eggs and gula melaka sauce.
The dish was cooked to perfection - crisp and absolutely mouth-watering.
Next, we tried the Satay Madura as an appetizer. Wow, the portion of meat was huge, it was almost like a main dish. The meat had been grilled tandoori style, and this gave it a North Indian touch. The condiments included cucumber, onion, pineapple and baby tomato.
We ordered white rice with Chicken and Baby Kai Lan.
The chicken was Diced Chicken with Dry Chilli and Cashew Nuts.
The chicken was boneless, tender and tasted really different with the honey sauce and cashew nuts. The Kai Lan was equally good.
The food portions were generous and we took a while to finish it all, but we savoured every bite. With the great decor and wonderful service, I will definitely go back for more!

Two Types of Layered Cakes Smile Apr 26, 2011
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Peranakan / Nonya | Bakery | Desserts and Cakes

This is my favourite place for cakes and Nonya kuih.
Their signature Lapis cake or Layered Cake tastes exquisite.
I savour each mouthful as I eat it layer by layer.
The cake is soft and full of flavour.
The other layered wonder is ''Lapis Sagu" - the traditional one made with glutinous rice.
The consistency of each layer is just right and the taste will leave you wanting more.
The service is fast and the staff are efficient.
