Tea Time at Toast Box OK Jul 30, 2012
Categories : Singaporean | Coffeeshop

This outlet at The Centrepoint is always packed and finding a seat is almost impossible.
On that day, I managed to find a seat.

There was a tea-time special - Tea + Slice of cake for $2.40.
It was a pretty good deal.
The Teh C was very good, as always. I have always enjoyed their Teh C.
The Chocolate Cherry Cake looked really mouth-watering and inviting.
However, it was a little bit too creamy and buttery for me.
With less cream, it would have been better.
Also, it was too sweet, so the chocolatey flavour did not come out.

Overall, the service was fast, as usual.
However, being an open-air cafe, it attracted flies pretty fast.
It really made it difficult to enjoy the meal. having to 'shoo' the flies away.
This area of hygiene should be looked into.

I guess I will stick to my usual fare of Butter Sugar toast or Laksa in future....

This new restaurant opened in Serangoon Gardens a few months ago and it is slowly attracting the crowds.
The restaurant serves authentic Indian Fish Head Curry and seafood and meat dishes.
It is the first of its kind in this area, and is a great place to dine in.

The ambience of the restaurant is welcoming and it allows diners to relax and enjoy the delectable Indian cuisine
in traditional style - on banana leaves. The interior is tastefully decorated to showcase Indian culture.
From the outside, it looks a little small on space; but one is in for a surprise on entering, because it is actually very spacious and roomy.

Well, as for the food, I am not a Fish Head Curry lover, so we decided to try the meat set meals instead.
The set meals come with either white rice or briyani rice, 2 vegetables and a meat dish.
We tried two different types of mutton dishes - Mutton Masala and Mutton Mysore.
The former comprised mutton chops cooked in a thick gravy and the latter was mutton cubes cooked with a dry gravy.
Both dishes tasted delicious, especially the Mutton Masala.
The Briyani sets also came with Indian pickles or achar - and it went really well with the food.
The additional Fish Cutlet was good as well.
The vegetables were not overcooked and retained their flavour; but my favourite vegetable dish was the
Lady's Finger - fried dry. This dish was made by frying dried lady's fingers and it was absolutely Mmmm!!!
The meals also came with a choice of gravy and Indian soup (raasam), not forgetting, Papadams.

The service was friendly and fast. From the moment we entered the restaurant, the staff were there to see
to our needs. The food was really good value for money as it was reasonably priced and served in generous portions.
The food was not too spicy and did not overuse flavourings - everything was 'natural'!
The taste of cooking reminded us of home-cooked goodness...they were both similar!

The food really has an authentice, traditional flavour to it. That one visit will definitely NOT be my last.
Actually, it wasn't and I was back there again the very next week ;)
I guess nobody can resist gastronomic delights...I can't!

Piping Hot Noodles N More Smile May 28, 2012

Categories : Noodles

This oulet at NEX is pretty small, hence the perpetual crowds.
If you want to get a seat, it is a good idea to go at off-peak hours.

No matter what time you go, the service is always very good and the staff
take your order attentively.
We ordered Laksa and Fishball noodles, with an additional side dish of Crispy Fishcake.

What I always like about this place is the huge spoon that comes with the chopsticks.
It is easy to eat using that spoon.

The portions of the Laksa and Fishball Noodles were both big.
Both dishes were great to savour till the last bit.
The Laksa gravy was full of flavour and the Noodles were tasty and soft.
There were big slices of fishcake and whole, big fishballs, as well as lots of taupok in the Laksa as well.
The additional Crispy Fishcake is actually Fishcake wrapped in Beancurd skin and then fried till crisp.
It went very well with both the Laksa and Noodles.

The set meal with a drink cost just $4.00 and the additional side dish was $0.70.
Truly great value for money and a tasty meal!
Laksa - simply the best!

Vegetables and More Smile May 26, 2012

Categories : Food Court

This stall at the Food Republic @ NEX is always busy.
There is a constant stream of customers that patronise it.
There is a wide selection of dishes from meat and fish to an array of greens and vegetables galore.

The food is hot and fresh and one will be spoilt for choice.
Very often, I'm stuck about what to order.
We ordered two different combinations - meat + vegetables & only vegetables.

The first set comprised Rice with Chicken, Chicken curry, lady's fingers and leafy vegetables (''sawi'').
The second set comprised Rice with Soft tofu, long beans, potato and leafy vegatables (''sawi'') with chicken gravy.

What I like about this stall is the speed with which the staff work to clear the crowd.
However, they are careful to recommend when asked. As I don't take pork or beef, I need
to be sure that the vegetables I choose do not contain them.

The food is freshly cooked and has wholesome home-cooked taste.
There is not too much salt or MSG and it is a healthy choice to eat here.
The chicken was juicy and tender and all the vegetables were not overcooked and retained the flavour.
I'm always hesitant to eat green vegetables at these stalls because the vegetables are often not well cleaned and not properly cooked. Over here, this was not the case.

The portions are pretty small, so the pricing is a little expensive. This Food Republic branch is spacious and despite the busy hours, it is usually possible to get a seat fast.
The lighting and seating concept make this branch a pleasant place to dine in.

Will definitely be back at this stall for more smile

Soup for Breakfast? Smile May 25, 2012

The Soup Spoon is my favourite place for soups and salads.
However, I came to realise that it serves equally good Breakfast sets as well.
We happened to be in that area at about 10am on a weekday morning, and didnt really fancy having a soup.
We were pleasantly surprised when we realised that The Souper Breakfast was actually a breakfast set with Coffee!

The set comprised of toast, scrambled eggs with cranberry, boiled chicken sauages and salad.
Each order was prepared from scratch; hence the slighty longer waiting time.
It was worth the wait, with crispy, hot toast and hot eggs and sausages.
The taste proved that all the ingredients used were fresh.

The service, as always, was fast and very polite.
The staff ensured that our order was sent to our table once ready
and that nothing was lacking.

We enjoyed breakfast and will definitely go back for more! tongue
