Christmas Delight Set OK Dec 31, 2013   (Related Review)

During the recent festive celebration, my friend and I headed to Pizza Hut and I ordered the Pizza Hut Christmas Delight set ($33, excluding GST and service charge). It consists of a regular double decker pizza (so-named because it comes with two layers of toppings), 2 soups and 2 sparkle drinks. The latter tastes like sprite mixed with syrup or food colouring.

The pizza has 2 layers of cheese with rolled up bacon and crust filled with cheese. The bacon was not too salty so it’s good for those with low salt tolerance. The crust is thick crust ones and although it looks very cheesy, it’s not. Looks can be deceiving. The pizza is okay but cannot be considered super nice. The soup happened to be chicken soup and I found it refreshing because it was not the usual mushroom soup or clam chowder soup. It has quite a number of pieces of chicken meat in it. This is good and filling. Drinks-wise, it’s a bit weird. Like I couldn’t tell if I was drinking syrup or sprite.

MK Croissants OK Dec 31, 2013

Categories : French | Fusion | Bakery

Maison Kayser is a French bakery which originated in France and has seen opened stores in many locations around the world. The café opens quite early daily and one can buy the bread there for breakfast. There have takeaway and dining options. The seating area is similar to alfresco dining with its open space concept.

Today I decided to try their croissant ($2.60) which was quite pricey but I think it is a fair price to pay considering that this is a European brand with a global presence. The croissant is not very crumbly nor does it have a very strong buttery taste. A bit hard but still have the airy fluffy texture, which is the trait for croissants.

I still think I had better croissants when I was traveling in Europe or maybe the croissants here have been changed to adapt to the Singaporean climate and locals’ tastebuds. Still it’s is quite a big portion and though I would not return for their croissants, I had be interested to dine there next time.

Tzi Char OK Dec 31, 2013

Categories : Singaporean | Chinese | Coffeeshop | Zi Char

Kimly Seafood is one stall my family and I frequent for tzi char. My mum and brother usually does the ordering while I do the eating. As there were 7 of us, we ordered quite a lot of dishes. The more memorable ones were the Dried Chilli Chicken and the Hokkien Mee. I like the Dried Chilli Chicken because it is soaked in the sauce which is very flavourful. The chicken was also very tender and succulent. A little salty but it’s okay if you eat it with a lot of rice. The Hokkien Mee tastes not bad too and since we ordered such a big bowl, we had second servings. There were lots of ingredients in it too.

We also ordered Steamed Fish and the sauce was still splattering because of the candle that was still boiling underneath it. This was quite dangerous and I got scalded by the sauce too as my hands happen to be near it. The steamed fish also ended with little sauce at the end of it. Quite disappointing because normally I like to scoop up the sauce to pair with the fish and rice.

Dim Sum OK Dec 31, 2013

Had dinner at Block 651 and while waiting for the tzi char dishes to arrive, I ordered some dim sum for myself and my family. I ordered the Prawn Dumpling ($1.80), Custard Bun ($0.70), Prawn Har Gao ($1.60) and Fried Carrot Cake ($0.70). I like Kimly’s dimsum especially when they are paired with the sauce. The custard filling for the Custard Bun was not the oozy variety and was a little hard. Not too nice to eat though the bun was fluffy. The carrot cake is deep fried and was quite nice to eat, especially at the sides. I didn’t really try the roll and Prawn Har Gao. The Prawn Dumpling looks and tastes like har gao as compared to the Prawn Har Gao. tongue

Spiderman…. Ice cream! OK Dec 31, 2013
Categories : Ice Cream and Gelato

I was in Orchard to collect some stuff and ventured to Tangs to try out the cold treats at this ice cream parlour that was dotted with bright colours and neon lights. Anyway I was pondering which flavour to get when the staff asked if I had like to try the different flavours. She actually recommended me the Cotton Candylicious, which looks and tasted like Paddle Pop. I tried two other flavours before getting the Spiderman which have been my first choice from the start.

I got a single scoop with a waffle cone ($5.20) and although it’s a bit pricey, one has to bear in mind, this is Orchard and so the prices cannot be that cheap. Anyway the serving portion is quite big too so it’s not that bad. The ice cream is aptly named for it is coloured blue with red hues. And this is raspberry flavoured. It has hints of raspberries but not strong. It felt like I was eating food colouring though. The ice cream has some consistency in it because there were a few times when it lifted after I took a bite. Quite interesting.

Although it is a little pricey with no additional ingredients or anything, it’s still a cool place to check out. Teens may be attracted to this shop which looks very bare with limited flavours. However the staff was super polite and very friendly. When I said I had like to get a flavour first, she insisted that I tried them first.
