Fusion cuisine OK Dec 31, 2013
Categories : Japanese | Japanese BBQ/Teppanyaki

Haramiya is a Japanese BBQ restaurant but seems to be a fusion of several different elements. For example, on the outside, it might look like an oriental Chinese restaurant but one look at the menu, you can see that it serves Japanese and Korean cuisine. My friend and I were wandering around the shopping mall, and decided to dine there, having been attracted to their attracted menu prices.

My friend and I ordered the Korean Bibimbap set which came with quite a few sides, as can be seen on the picture above. There was beansprouts with carrot, tofu, as well as kimchi, salad and even fruits. The kimichi was a little meagre but I guess I couldn’t really begrudge them based on the total number of sides served. I didn’t really enjoyed my bibimbap because it consists of minced meat which I do not really like. However the meal does look appetizing with the egg yolk nestling in the middle of the dish.

Although the outside of the restaurant looks quite intimidating, they do offer set meals at affordable prices so it is an alternative dining option. Would look forward to trying out their barbeque food items next time.

Mango Pudding OK Dec 31, 2013

The Ama in Amasoy apparently has two meanings. If you understand Chinese, you had known it stands for grandma. If you understand Japanese, it also stands for sweet. This results in the cute mascot used by Amasoy in the form of a grandma.

Anyway Amasoy’s soy beancurds are supposed to be organic and after seeing an advertorial by a famous blogger, I decided to buy one of their beancurd puddings to try out for myself. I got the mango flavoured one ($2.50) which is said to have collagen as well.

When I opened the lid, the smell of mango immediately hits and I held high expectations. The beancurd was not too sweet, quite mild-tasting, so it’s good for those who dislikes the sweet beancurd puddings from Lao Ban etc. However the mango bits are not too fresh, and I didn’t really enjoyed eating it with the beancurd and ended up eating them separately. The pudding Is soft and silky, a nice treat for the young and old alike. Though it is a bit pricey at $2.50, I guess it’s cause of its collagen properties.

Nasi Briyani OK Dec 29, 2013

Categories : Indian | Hawker Centre | Halal

Singapore boosts a wide variety of cuisine, and one of my favourite food is Nasi Briyani. I happened to buy one packet and the portion is big! I had to share it with my sister or I wouldn’t have been able to finish this by myself.

The nasi briyani came with a big piece of chicken and it is very tender and succulent. It is easy to peel the meat off from the bones. However there is nothing special about the rice though it tastes not bad, having been seasoned with other spices. But it does not contain anything special that differentiates it from the other nasi briyani stalls. I also got a packet of curry. Sad to say the curry was a bit watery and I had preferred if it was a little bit thicker.

Economical Noodles OK Dec 29, 2013
Categories : Hawker Centre

My dad always buy breakfast at Boon Lay Market and today he bought the economical bee hoon mixed with the instant noodles. The noodles are a little dry, same for the other ingredients without any “wow” factor. The egg, seaweed chicken and nugget also look like it has been cooked for quite some time. Still the stall serves up affordable meals and so a little bit of quality has to be compromised. It still tastes reasonably good except for the dry factor and so it is acceptable to me.

Western Cusine OK Dec 28, 2013

New York New York (NYNY) used to have a outlet at JP but has been replaced by Poulet. LOL Anyway thankfully they still have an outlet open at AMK.

I was there with a friend and I ordered the Chicken-Mushroom and Cheese. Reminds me of the fish burger at another restaurant where they have the mushroom and cheese together. The chicken is a bit dry but luckily there is the cheese on top that makes it more palatable.

We shared the Giant Sundae which is really meant for sharing, not for 2 people but for like big groups (like at least 3 people). It's too much for 2 people to finish. mad It's a nicely presented sundae and tastes yummy! Great for filling sweet tooths. tongue
