Teng Yu Pancakes Smile Dec 29, 2013

Categories : Singaporean | Desserts and Cakes

Heard about this stall but when I dropped by, there wasn’t much seats available so I chose to just try the cheese pancake and return another day to try their chee cheong fun.

The pancake is made on the spot and I didn’t have to wait long (5 minutes +). When I received the pancake, it was quite hot to hold but it’s nice to eat since it is hot. Although it is a simple dish, pancake plus cheese, it is quite interesting flavour-wise. The pancake is a bit floury and chewy and paired with the melty cheese, it’s just a nice combination with the cheese flavour.

I have been meaning to try the desserts and pastries served at Paul Bakery, a French Patisserie after passing by their outlet at Orchard. Luckily Westgate have an outlet too and while I was spoiled for choice on what to get, the staff recommended me to try one of their limited edition pastries which is only available once a year. Tempted I got it though I am not exactly sure what it is.

The pie costs $5.50 and has a crumbly texture. The inside is also has this filling but I was unable to discern what it is made of. The tart is not too sweet and is a nice treat for those who dislike sweet stuffs. The serving is also quite big in which the tart almost filled the entire box.

I had be back to try more of their desserts and also their main course dishes!

Thai Express Smile Dec 29, 2013

Categories : Thai

Thai Express is the place to go for some authentic Thai dishes. Anyway I was there with a group of friends and we ordered a good variety of food.

My friends and I ordered the soft shell crab with rice, tofu, prawn as well as laksa. Thai cuisine is known for its sour and tangy tastes and this is clearly represented in its dishes, especially the appetizers.

The soft shell crab was tasty and worth ordering a second time should we return. It has the curry sauce on it which complements the dish very well. The prawn dish is something like French toast but it is fried with prawns. Quite interesting. The tofu was so-so only. Nothing special. Last but not least, the laksa was nice but the portion is a bit small, both vermicelli-wise and the ingredients. Still I had say Thai Express is worth a visit for Thai food lovers!

Recommended Dish(es):  Soft shell crab

Japanese Buffet Smile Dec 29, 2013

Nihon Mura offers both ala-carte and buffet items. On my previous visit, I went for the buffet and filled my tummy with sushi and desserts. Though the sushi is not that fantastic, for the price of the buffet, I think it is still acceptable. I like that besides Japanese food, they also offer food from other cuisines like éclairs.

It’s the place to go for a wide variety of food at affordable prices.

Sushi Smile Dec 29, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi | Kids-Friendly

Sakae Sushi is a homegrown sushi chain so my friend and I decided to support local businesses! (Just kidding). My friend likes Japanese cuisine and since we happen to pass by, we decided to go to Sakae Sushi for dinner.

I prefer cooked food so I ordered items like the takoyaki balls and the soba noodles while she had sashimi. The soba noodles is served chilled and makes for a refreshing noodles treat. The sauce is also lightly salted and adds flavour to the soba. The takoyaki ball is cooked perfectly with its crisp exterior and soft and chewy texture within.

Recommended Dish(es):  Cold soba, Takoyaki balls
