Midnight coffee craving Smile Dec 18, 2013

One Friday night, after a round of German food and drinks at a restaurant in Vivo, my friend and I wandered around looking for cafes serving ice-blended coffees. We passed by several shops, but they were either closing (it's after 10pm), or the only cold beverage they serve is iced coffee. Finally Lo and Behold! Starbucks appears at the end of our trail. They were like the ONLY cafe that is open while all the other shops are not available.

We happily placed our orders , a Caramel Frappuccino and a Mocha Chip Frappuccino. I didn't try much of the latter cause that was my friend's orders. I did take a sip and all i remember is a chocolatey taste. I had the Caramel one and it was kinda sweet but i loved the whipped cream on top. Caramel and coffee can never go wrong but if you do not have a sweet tooth, its best to avoid it and get the other options.

Good place to chill or study Smile Dec 15, 2013

Coffee Bean is one of my favourite hangouts for chillax-ing (chilling and relaxing) besides Starbucks. But Coffee Bean is so much more better cause its tucked in one corner of JP away from the crowd. You won't be that distracted compared to sitting at SB which is like alfresco style.

Once my friend and I decided to revise there and we ordered a chamomile tea and chocolate cake. The cake is super chocolate-ly, good for all the chocolate fans out there. The chamomile tea, needless to say is just chamomile from one of the major tea brands.

Still i liked the atmosphere and so if i am there i would be sure to order a ice blended coffee and a slice of cake as i laze my day away people-watching.

Befitting restaurant name Smile Dec 03, 2013

One of the restaurants I really wanted to try is Strangers' Reunion. I heard a lot about the restaurant through user reviews on Open Rice and so was excited when my friends and I decided to have dinner there last friday.

The restaurant is located a short distance away from Outram Park MRT (walk out from the Purple Line, towards the Cantonment Road exit). Walking time around 10-15 minutes.

Anyway we reached around 8pm and the restaurant was packed and with a few patrons waiting outside.

Anyway the above picture shows the entrance of the museum which is just next door to the restaurant. It is easy to pass by this entrance and head to the museum entrance cause at first glance, one cannot really notice the door.

Anyway we waited for around 20-30 minutes before we were ushered in. We were given two options, either share a table with a group of existing patrons or sit facing the wall. We chose the former thinking its a more comfortable and conducive seating arrangement. But it turned out to be quite awkward and laughter inducing sitting with a group of strangers. Strangers' Reunion indeed.

The Orange Zesty Chicken Schnitzel ($19.90) boasts a huge serving. As there were 3 of us, it was just nice that we got one chicken cutlet each. My impression of a decent schnitzel is a barely-there batter crust with tender meat. However the one here had a thick crust and while it does contain hints of tangerine, I felt that the skin is too thick with too little meat. However the lotus chips were good with a texture similar to that of potato chips.

We also ordered a truffle fries ($12.90) which tasted relatively normal. I could hardly taste the truffle in the fries.

The main selling point of the restaurant is the waffles. We had the Buttermilk waffle with vanilla ice cream and fresh fruit ($12.90). Although we had to wait 30 minutes for this, it was worth the wait! The waffle was soft and fluffy and warm. Coupled with the cold ice cream, it was like a match made in heaven. It was so good that we ended up ordering another waffle to satiate our craving.

What better way to end off the meal with a cup of coffee. Called Magic ($5.50), it is said to contain a magical proportion of milk to coffee. I like the coffee art but the coffee was a little bitter in my opinion.

Relatively dim atmosphere

The tables in the restaurant each boosted a small plant which added to the overall ambience of the restaurant. There were also paintings hung around the walls and coupled with the dim lightings, it gives off a very cosy atmosphere. The service staff were also very friendly and tried to make small talk with the patrons. Though there was no fixed uniform and so when we wanted to call out to them, we weren't sure if they are the paying customer or waiters/waitresses.

Overall I liked the service standards at the restaurant and the waffles. Definitely a hot spot for people who are looking for good waffles and a nice atmosphere.

Best Milk Tea with Crème ever Smile Nov 29, 2013

Alisan Milk Tea

Alisan Milk Tea

Lately my intake of bubble tea has increased with the opening of a Gong Cha outlet at Jurong Point (like finally!). Normally I had get the lemon roasted melon tea or the Alisan Milk Tea (Both $2.60 each).

I like the Alisan Milk Tea because the dollop of crème added with the tea helps to “combat” the strong tea flavour. I am not a big fan of tea and so this is highly preferable. The crème is salted and with the tea, which is quite bitter, it comes off with a nice combination when mixed together.

Korean BBQ~! Smile Nov 18, 2013
Categories : Korean | Restaurant | BBQ

I am a big fan of Korean cuisine, especially Korean BBQ, so one day I decided to head to Wong Dae Bak Korean BBQ Restaurant with a bunch of friends.

The restaurant serves mainly pork, but with other meat such as chicken and beef too. We ordered pork and chicken meat as well as some Korean side dishes such as the pancake. There was a suction thingy on top to help inhale all the smoke away as the meat cooks and though one would not escape from the cook-out smelling fresh as daises, it does help a little.

One thing I absolutely love that is different from all the other Korean BBQ restaurants I have been to is that there is a indented circumference surrounding the grill where you can cook eggs in. You can choose whether you want your eggs to be half-cooked or fried. AWESOMEEEEEEEE. lol (There is a free flow of eggs and side dishes! So eat as many eggs as you possibly can! chopstick)

I had say I would definitely return to this restaurant to satisfy my craving for Korean cuisine anytime!
