Sashimi Salad with Japanese Dressing

Sashimi Salad with Japanese Dressing

It was a really late lunch hence I wanted something light (and healthy) if not I would be too full to have dinner. Got myself the sashimi salad and I requested to have only salmon for the sashimi. As you can see from the picture, the serving of salmon sashimi is really generous. The dressing was also nice and tangy, it made the salad really refreshing. On the whole the sashimi salad is quite good, only thing is I didn't like the kind of vegetables they used for the salad, which was slightly dry and bitter.

Spending per head: Approximately $10(Tea)

Not as nice as before OK Dec 22, 2014

Garlic BBQ Ribs

Garlic BBQ Ribs

We got the Garlic BBQ Ribs this time round. Like before, the ribs were really tender and fell off the bone really easily. This would have been great if there wasn't so much sauce. The sauce was sweet, tangy and slightly spicy, and because the ribs were thickly coated with it, I felt that it really overpowered the tender meat. By the way, the garlic taste wasn't strong (in case there's any of you who's worried it's too strong). I also like the mashed potato where you could still taste bits of potato and red potato skin, giving it texture.

We also got Caesar Salad, Chilli Cheese Fries, Tequila Spiked Chicken and Pork Chop. Everything was pretty average and nothing to shout about. Visit my OpenSnap account for more photos!

Black Pig Shabu Shabu Ramen

Black Pig Shabu Shabu Ramen

Decided to try their Black Pig Shabu Shabu Ramen this time as it seemed to be their specialty. I actually prefer shabu shabu pork slices than the normal cha shu you find in most ramen, so I actually enjoyed this ramen alot! The soup was also creamy and rich but without making you feel jelat.

Grilled Squid

Grilled Squid

Many Japanese restaurants offer this dish and I've always wanted to order it, and I finally did this time at Tampopo. The squid was firm and slightly chewy, I really liked the texture and it was a joy to eat tongue It was just lightly brushed with teriyaki sauce so you could still taste the sweetness of the squid itself, very yummy smile

So I'm back at one of my fav sushi places for dinner and of course I was gonna order sushi instead of their don or other types of food tongue

Softshell Crab Maki

Softshell Crab Maki

I've ordered their Softshell Crab Maki before and really liked it, hence I got it again this time. I really like how the crab seemed really fresh and the coating of the seaweed on the outside made the entire maki taste much better.

Ebi Tempura Maki with Pitan

Ebi Tempura Maki with Pitan

I also got the Ebi Tempura Maki with Century Egg. I couldn't really taste the century egg hence I was quite disappointed... wished the century egg taste could be stronger.

Salmon Miso Soup

Salmon Miso Soup

I wanted some soup to go along with the sushi, so I got the Salmon Miso Soup, which came with some salmon chunks, glass noodles, bean sprouts and thinly sliced radish. The soup was quite rich and didn't really taste like miso. It tasted a little herbal but I did like the taste though.

Won't be coming back Cry Dec 20, 2014

I ate at the Raffles City branch a few years back and remembered the food and service to be pretty good. However, last night's meal at the Central branch makes me feel that the standard has dropped vastly. Either that or it's just this branch that needs major improvements.

Self-grilled Beef Steak

Self-grilled Beef Steak

I ordered the Self-grilled Beef Steak set ($29) for myself, which consists of the beef, rice, miso soup, salmon sashimi (3 slices), chawanmushi, sliced cucumber appetizer, cold tofu and a wedge of orange.

Here's why I was pretty unhappy with my meal (everything added up and made the experience quite unpleasant).

1) The cup that my plain water came in had a lipstick mark on it. When I told a waitress about it, she didn't apologize or say anything, just nodded her head and gave me another cup. Surely you should apologize for using a dirty cup?

2) The beef steak was served on a hot plate and lo and behold...the hot plate wasn't...hot. Yes, you heard me right. It was only slightly hot and the temperature dropped before I could finish cooking all the sliced beef. The beef slices are thin and the fact that all of them were still quite red on one side shows how un-hot the plate was. I didn't complain because the staff were all very nonchalant and I could make do with medium rare slices.

3) My set includes chawanmushi but I think there wasn't enough chawanmushi at that time so they served my set without it, which is fine but they should have informed me. I only realized it after a while and asked them how come the chawanmushi was left out, and the waiter said they will serve it to me later. However, nearing the end of my meal, it still hadn't come so I checked with them. After I finished my meal, it still wasn't here so I asked them about it again. We waited for about 10 mins and the chawanmushi was finally out. Even then, it wasn't very nice as the egg was really really soft, as though too much water was added or it wasn't steamed long enough.

Next to us was this guy who also repeatedly asked the staff for his sushi roll because he had waited really really long for it (I was there later than him and I also waited reallyyyy long for my food to come, and even then, my set came earlier than his sushi roll).

Because of all that I had encountered last night, I'm very sure that I will not be coming back again, at least to this outlet. Hope their management sees this and will do something to improve their standards.
