Pretty Good Ribs! Smile Mar 31, 2014

Categories : American | Steaks and Grills

As most people might already know, King Louis is a medieval-themed restaurant featuring castles and knights in armours as part of their decoration. It was pretty interesting though tacky for me, but I can definitely see the appeal for kids!

The King Louis Signature Premium BBQ Baby Back Rib

The King Louis Signature Premium BBQ Baby Back Rib

We got the full rack of BBQ Baby Back Ribs to share, with a side of salad with corn and cherry tomatoes, and fries. The ribs were not bad, the meat was nice and tender and well-flavoured. Of course the other star of this dish is the BBQ sauce! The sweetness of the sauce was just right and made the ribs really finger-licking-good tongue The fries and salad were ok, nothing much to say about them.

Claypot Rice OK Mar 31, 2014
Categories : Singaporean | Chinese | Hawker Centre

Once in a while when my mom wants to take a break from cooking, my family will order the claypot rice from this stall, which is quite popular even among Singaporeans who don't live nearby.

The claypot rice is quite fragrant and I love it when there's lot of dark sauce mixed into the rice lol The chicken pieces inside are also tasty, with 2 different types of sliced lap cheong/Chinese sausages and green vegetables. My only gripe is that the amount of vegetables is measly. They should include more as those types of vegetables are really cheap. Also, some people like it when there are charred bits of rice at the bottom of the claypot but I would prefer if there was less of this and for the rice to be more moist.

The stall also sells a variety of soups like watercress soup, old cucumber soup and lotus soup. They all go really well with the claypot rice lol

Awesome braised duck rice! Smile Mar 30, 2014

Categories : Singaporean | Teochew | Coffeeshop | Rice

I used to work near the stall and this was one of the food I would have for my lunch for most of the days. Yes, it's that good! lol I've been wanting to go back for the duck rice ever since I've stopped working at the previous job, so I brought my parents there for lunch one day smile

The braised duck is sliced thinly so that you will savour the right amount of duck meat in your mouth, without having to chew on so much meat in each mouthful. The duck meat was tender and had totally absorbed all the flavours from the braising sauce. I love it when there's still a bit of skin left on, because that little bit of fat from the skin will really heighten the flavours of the duck meat.

This is my favourite braised duck stall and I definitely hope they'll continue to cook and serve their yummy braised duck for many years to come!

Great Buffet! Smile Mar 30, 2014
Categories : Chinese | Singaporean Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood

The first time I had the buffet at Tung Lok I remember the food to be pretty good. I also liked how there were many many choices for us to choose from the menu. Hence, I decided to bring my parents there to try it out.

The sambal clams while yummy, did not seem to be very fresh. Most of the clams in the plate had their shells closed, which only means that they had gone bad. The worse thing is that they still served it to us.

The pig trotters vinegar wasn't in the buffet menu, but somehow the staff shared with us that we could order it at no extra cost. It was my first time having this dish and I quite liked the vinegar taste. The thought of it is making me salivate now tongue The only downside was that it's really really oily.

The deep-fried salmon skin was nice and crispy and was great as a snack. It was so easy to lose count of how much you've had because you'll just keep reaching for one after another munching on them lol The portion was really generous too.

The assam gravy was slightly thick, and the colour was a bright orange. The portion of the fish was just right, not too big so that we could still have enough room in our stomach for the other dishes. The vegetables in this dish was also well-cooked, soft but not too much so.

The salmon sashimi slices were big and thick, and they were fresh too. This is another dish that you can just keep ordering to satisfy your craving for salmon sashimi!

There were also plenty of other yummy dishes so if you're looking for affordable quality Chinese food with a wide variety of dishes, this is the place to go!

Simple and good food Smile Mar 30, 2014
Categories : Food Court

I was at Food Republic having chicken rice for dinner one day when I saw 2 men sitting beside us with their plates of bee hoon and fried food. They were simple food and dishes but somehow looked so tempting, hence I told myself I had to come back soom to try out the food from this stall lol

I came back for lunch another day and picked out which ever took my fancy. I chose to have the century egg, taiwan sausage and fried prawn. For the taiwan sausage and fried prawn, the cook deep-fried them in the hot oil for a few seconds before serving, so that what you get is nice, hot and crispy. I was afraid that the beehoon wouldn't be sufficient hence I got the bigger serving, which turned out to be a bit too much for me. The food was pretty good in general, and I'd definitely be back should the craving strike! smile
