Pho & Rice Paper Roll Lunch Set OK Feb 04, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Vietnamese

Knowing that they offer lunch sets, my colleagues and I hopped down one day for a meal. They had 2 price ranges of set lunch, $11.90 & $13.90, both of which you can choose a main course, appetizer & drink. I picked from the $11.90 set and had the sliced beef noodle, fresh rice paper roll & Vietnamese Jasmine tea.

Sliced Beef Noodle
The bean sprouts & mint leaves were given separately, which is great for those who don't like these in their dish. I found the soup a little salty and the beef a little tough. Noodle portion was quite a lot and it really filled me up together with the appetizer.

Fresh Rice Paper Roll
These rice paper rolls consisted of lettuce, thick Beehoon, bean sprouts & pork slices. There may be other ingredients inside but I can't really remember. Would have preferred if they used prawns instead of pork slices.

Vietnamese Jasmine Tea: I ordered the cold version and it tasted just like the normal Jasmine Tea (not that I'm complaining, just that I thought there might be something different when they called it 'Vietnamese' Jasmine Tea). The tea was smooth and didn't contain any sugar.

Although everything I had was just average to me, this is a place I'd return to if I'm in the vicinity and craving for some Pho and fresh rice paper rolls.

CNY set menu OK Feb 03, 2014
Categories : Shanghainese | Restaurant | Dim Sum | Noodles

My family wanted a simple reunion dinner among ourselves, so we settled for Paradise Dynasty.

While waiting for my sister to arrive, we ordered the Chilled Sliced Pork Belly with Minced Garlic and Soya Sauce as I was really hungry. This was basically sliced pork belly rolled up with julienne cucumbers inside, topped with minced chilli garlic with chilli oil. This was okay, a little spicy for me.

For the set menu itself, we got CNY Set A, which is $148 for 3-4 pax. There were 5 of us actually but the portions were just right for us. The set consists of the following 6 items.

1) Salmon Yu Sheng
This was pretty good! The sauce was pretty light on the palate and all the vegetables were cut thinly and smooth (some other places have their vegetables roughly cut, which doesn't taste as nice). All of us were also provided with long chopsticks for the tossing of the yusheng, I was quite amused by it heh.

2) Double-boiled Chicken Soup
I've always been a fan of double-boiled chicken soup at Chinese restaurants like Crystal Jade and Din Tai Fung. This one from Paradise Dynasty was also nice, slightly lighter in taste but still flavourful and you could clearly taste the essence of the chicken. Just thinking about this again is making me salivate! There were 2 huge chunks of chicken meat with the soup. Usually the meat that comes with Chinese soups can be quite dry and tasteless after the long hours of boiling and simmering, but these 2 pieces of chicken were still pretty tender, much to my delight. I ate up all the meat smile

3) Steamed Marble Gobyin Supreme Soya Sauce
Also known as Soon Hock, this fish was pretty yummy as it was very smooth and the meat came off the bones easily. However, the meat seemed just a wee bit soft. I've also always liked the soya sauce that does with the fish.

4) Braised White Cabbage with Dried Scallop
As the name goes, this dish consisted of braised cabbage with shredded dried scallops. The cabbage had been braised till it was really soft and it had absorbed the flavours of the gravy. The dried scallops tasted a little salty, as though it had not been washed sufficiently (You know how some dried seafood naturally has sea salt taste? This is what I'm referring to).

5) Stir-fried Noodles with Minced Pork and Shredded Black Fungus
The noodles were pretty good, with the taste of wok hei. I could not taste nor see the minced pork but there were bean sprouts, shredded cabbage and black fungus, which was good enough for me.

6) Chilled Aloe Vera with Osmanthus in Honey Lemon Juice
This was more like a honey lemon drink with aloe vera cubes, wolfberries and some osmanthus flowers in it. This was really nice and refreshing, feels great when you have it after a filling meal.

There's also something else that I'd like to mention... The restaurant was quite crowded on the day we were there and it seemed like the restaurant was short on staff. However the lady who served us was very cheerful and friendly the whole time she served us smile Good service!

Salmon Sushi Burrito OK Feb 03, 2014
Categories : Mexican | Japanese | Fusion | Fast Food | Sushi/Sashimi

The previous time I tried the Geisha Dance which featured unagi as the main ingredient. I wanted to give this place a try again when I was in the area, so I got the full roll of Salmon Rumba $12.90 this time round. This was a really big roll and it really filled me right up! I think for most girls, a half roll would be sufficient.

This was the cute packaging that it came in. The sushi burrito itself was wrapped in paper, then placed in this 'cardboard' holder. There was a place for you to tear in the middle which makes it easy for you to hold and eat, or for sharing purposes.

A cute little note written by the staff smile

By the time I reached home, the burrito was slightly soggy, but this wasn't a problem for me. Taste-wise, I felt that the pickles was quite overpowering. I liked the crunchiness of all the vegetables (lettuce, cucumber, cabbages, pickles, carrot and tomato) but all I could taste was the pickles and subtle taste of the salmon and sauce. Overall I don't think it's fantastic and it's really pricey, but I might still buy it again if I'm in the area and looking for something healthy and easy to eat.

Beef noodles was so-so OK Dec 23, 2013
Categories : Taiwanese | Noodles

Had lunch at this newly opened restaurant with my colleagues one day. I chose to have the flat, broad noodle together with beef brisket and tendon. Each bowl had a little bit of salted veg and something that looked like chilli oil but didn't taste spicy at all. While the brisket was not bad, I felt that the noodles could be cooked longer as it was still a bit hard to me. The broth was also ok but nothing to shout about - I felt it would be much better if there was a stronger beefy taste to it.

Food was so-so OK Dec 07, 2013
Categories : French | Steaks and Grills

The interior of the restaurant was a little confusing, it kinda looked like it was trying to look like a fine dining place but did not have enough budget for it :S

There were a few selections for their appetizers and desserts, but there were only 2 options of main course.

I ordered their burger which was served with a whole lot of fries. The burger consisted of a thick beef patty with mushrooms, onions and cheese, with mustard by the side. I quite liked the mustard and the fries were not bad. However the patty was kinda dry and tasty hence the burger was just soso.

My partner ordered the steak with fries, which came in 3 sizes. He ordered the 'light' portion ($19.90) which was a decent serving size. The steak was served sliced with lots of fries and walnut salad. The steak was ok, nothing fantastic.

Everything was just soso - won't be coming back again.
