Best fishball noodles! Smile Dec 11, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Hawker Centre | Noodles

This have been my favourite fishball noodles since young, and is as popular as ever all these years. You will see a long queue forming everytime whether with the weekday lunch crowd or the weekend crowd. Their noodles are very flavourful and q, and with every mouthful you just cant stop squealing in delight. Usually I will get the $3 instead of the $2.50 portion since I cant never get enough of their yummy noodles. Together with the fishballs, fishcake, fish dumpling and minced pork, it is a pleasingly good bowl of fishball noodles. Also tried it with mee pok and it was just as good. It is not easy to find a nice bowl of mee pok with the right texture as I have eaten very soggy and awful mee pok before. But, the mee pok here is just right and springy as well! Eat it with a mixture of ketchup and chilli, it tastes best like that to me!

Impressive Hot Chocolate Smile Dec 11, 2014

Categories : Café

The Orange Thimble is a quiet and laid back place among the many cafes in the Tiong Bahru neighbourhood, and is a nice place to chill at especially during weekdays afternoons which is usually most quiet. Both occasions I was there, it was for just snacks and drinks, so the next time I go back I hope to try out their main courses. Both of us shared the chicken shepherd pie and hot chocolate for tea time. The shepherd pie was quite decent with generous chunks of chicken and smooth baked potato. The Hot Chocolate is the bomb, it is rich and thick and so full of chocolately goodness, I can say it is one of the best hot chocolate I have ever tasted. At first taste, you will know it is not the usual instant bland mix that some cafes use. Definitely my cup of chocolate! I also like it that the drinks there comes with the traditional yummy colourful sugar biscuits.

Thumbs up!! Smile Dec 11, 2014

This is one of my favorite wanton mee stalls and the few stalls that I always patronise when at Zion Riverside. The noodles are really good and is very Q, just the way I like it! Portion of noodles is considered big for a $3 bowl, with juicy char siew and well marinated delicious wantons, 2 fried and 2 in soup. This is really what I love about this stall, you get to try both fried and soup wantons in a bowl! I love the crispy yummy fried wanton, always saving it for the last. The soup is nice too, not very salty.

Over-rated OK Dec 09, 2014

Heard so many people raving over this mee pok in the traditional coffeeshop which was also the filming set of the Mee Pok Man and decided to try it for myself on a weekday lunch. Love the ambience of the coffeeshop with its old school feel and the marble tables. There was a steady flow of lunch crowd too, with office workers coming from around the neighbourhood. The mee pok didnt impress though, in fact it was quite forgettable. Personally, I find it a tad too soft and soggy and not springy enough for my liking. The generous portion of fishballs and fishcakes tasted quite normal too, not fantastic. Didnt quite understand why people labelled this mee pok as one of the best mee pok they have ever had, for me it definitely did not fit that label, for I have eaten much tastier and delicious mee pok elsewhere.

Yummy Yakitori! Smile Dec 09, 2014
Categories : Japanese

This is one of the cheaper options in Ion Orchard if you are looking for a filling meal or craving Jap but dont have the budget for restaurant fare. The Bento Set A which includes 2 chicken, 1 pork and 1 chicken ball yakitori stick with pickles and seaweed topped delicious japanese rice is my all time favourite and answer to a satisfying meal. I really like the rice, every grain is so shiny and fragrant that I can eat it on its own with just the seaweed and pickles and the special Tori Q sauce on the rice. You can choose the yakitoris that you like, to go with the rice too, if you do not like the combination of the bento sets. My ultimate favourite is the chicken ball, love the meaty balls with the glazed sauce. The Ion outlet is always busy especially during lunch and dinner peak periods, but the queue moves very fast.
