Nice fishcake but not the noodles OK Dec 08, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Hawker Centre

Ate at this stall twice when my favourite stalls were not opened. Had the Fishcake Fishball Mee Pok ($4) on both occasions, once with chilli and once without. The mee pok without chilli was bland with a alkaline "ghee" taste and was quite soggy. The second time I had the mee pok with chilli, it was better and nicer, at least the chilli covered the "ghee" taste, so it was more edible. So, my take is have the mee pok in lots of chilli. The chilli is quite nice actually. The noodles really need to be improved on, for those who dont take chilli, it is really quite a chore to finish a bowl of alkaline taste noodles. The only thing that I like at this stall is their special handmade fishcake, it is really delicious and is what keep me going to this stall despite their lacklustre noodles. Next time, I probably will just buy the individual fishcake on its own.

Long long wait! Smile Dec 08, 2014

This stall only opens in the evening and has the longest queue ever. Be prepared to wait for an hour, this stall is definitely not for the impatient or the hungry one. I was there at around 6plus to order my takeaway wanton mee, and I got it exactly an hour later. The noodles is very springy and flavourful and is definitely the reason why this stall is popular. The noodles are quite on the oily side but I personally love it and also the wantons. The char siew looks dull and unappealing but it is actually quite nice. At $2.50, the portion is just nice, but sometimes when I cant get enough of the noodles, i will have the $3 instead. The wanton mee is nice but when Im in a hurry or too hungry to wait, I would have something else instead; it simply depends if Im in the mood to queue or not.

Wafflelicious! Smile Dec 08, 2014

We were at the ButterScotch cafe straight after cakes and drinks at the Bakery Chef, so we couldnt eat much. Still, we wanted to try something from ButterScotch, especially when there was an available table. The cafe is usually full whenever we pass by so we never had a chance to dine there since we didnt want to wait. Tried the Chocolate Estacsy ($11 excluding the service charge), it is chocolate waffles with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. True to it's name, it is very chocolately indeed and will get you sugar rush high! The chocolate waffles are crisp and airy, and goes well with the ice cream. Love the chocolate waffles, but the chocolate sauced drizzled over the waffles proved to be a bit too sweet for me. It would be perfect with lesser chocolate sauce. Would love to try the mains next time, prices are quite on the high side in this cafe though.

Lovely coffee art! Smile Dec 08, 2014

A young instagram-worthy cafe with different themes of decor, it is always crowded with students and youngsters even on weekdays. My favourite seat in the cafe has to be the swing seats that makes one feel like a child again. Love the coffee art there, seeing an adorable bear or Totoro makes me feel happier when enjoying my drink. The green tea latte ($7) was really nice, thumbs up! We had the sweet potato waffles too, it is quite unique compared to the usual plain waffles or waffles with ice cream. Rich with sweet potato chunks, it is a must have for the sweet potato lover, but I find the waffle slightly too dry though. Have yet to try their mains, will be back for this is fast becoming my favourite cafe to chill at in Holland Village.

Best Rainbow cake Smile Nov 28, 2014

The Bakery Chef is like a gem in the otherwise boring and sleepy Bukit Merah neighbourhood. It provides a great place to chill at after visiting the library or after lunch at my favourite food centre.

The signature Rainbow Cake ($5.80) is one of the best rainbow cakes I have ever tasted. It not only is a visually pretty sight of colours, it is light and moist and not as sweet as other rainbow cakes that I have tried before. The Calamansi Sunrise is very refreshing and light too, that's why I love their cakes. Prices are reasonable too.
