Hip and Young cafe OK Mar 17, 2014

Audacious Cakery was the third stop in my cafe hopping mission that day, so we were already half full. I think this is one of the more popular cafes in Everton, other than The Provision Shop, cos these two cafes were full when we went. We had to wait a while for a seat outside. There are lots of youngsters, the vibe is different in this cafe, I guess it appeals more to the young!
Audaciously Charming Cafe!

I like the neat and attractive display of their cakes and cupcakes. It just whets your appetite looking at them! I like the friendly and good service in the cafe too. The drinks menu was quite limited though, for a non coffee drinker. Was feeling very thirsty and wanted a ice drink, but other than hot TWG tea and some bottled tea that didnt really attracted me, there was no selection of ice drinks.

We only could try one item as we were too full! Got the black sesame cupcake ($3.50) in the end. At first bite, we loved it. It was rich and full of black sesame, just like eating the real black sesame dessert. But for me, I gradually got a bit sick of it, cupcake texture was nice though, just that I think the black sesame didnt really blend into the cupcake.

Would love to come back again when Im not so full to try out the other flavours of cupcakes and perhaps their cakes!

Nice Kaya Cake! OK Mar 17, 2014

I like this Hans outlet a lot as it is huge and comfy... dining in or even sitting in for a drink can be a very good experience, and it is a very nice place to chill and chat with friends too. If I'm near the area, it's quite nice to go for  a coffee and cake, and to laze around in the nice environment.

Their cakes arent exactly very nice, but once in a while, it is fine to not indulge in expensive and high end cakes. Sometimes, normal cakes is enough to satisfy. The chocolate cake is average, not too sweet or rich.

The Kaya cake is the only cake I like in Hans, and I have to say they make one of the best kaya cake around. Smooth and rich with layers of kaya and cream chiffon, it is pleasing and refreshing especially when eaten chilled straight out the fridge. This is a must-have cake in Hans, highly recommended!

The Chocolate Rum Ball is a forgettable one. With no tinge of rum at all, it is just a plain chocolate ball. Could feel no efforts in getting any rum taste in this pastry, needs to be improved, if not maybe they should not call this a rum ball.

Poteato had fast became my favourite cafe in the Tiong Bahru neighbourhood and I have brought several friends on different occasions to try the food there, after they saw the mouth-watering food that I posted online! I have since tried their lunch, brunch, tea and dinner menu.

Eating the Buffalo Wings ($10.20) was a hot and fiery experience! The wings are marinated in a hot sauce and you can feel the heat and spice with every bite, especially the skin, the meat inside is also spicy but to a lesser extent. My friend and I dont usually take very spicy stuff, and this level was too much for us, so we had to gulp iced water almost with every bite, but that said, we enjoyed it very much! It is hot and spicy, but it was very Shiok!! Because of the thick and rich sauce on the wings, eating the buffalo wings was a messy affair, we had to go wash our hands immediately after hahaha!

We also had the Classic Chicken Wings ($9.20). The moment it arrived on our table, we could smell the aroma of the chicken, and of course it was a great choice, very crispy, tender and delicious!

We were on a snack attack! Been long wanting to try the Sweet Potato Fries ($6.20), and we finally got the chance since we are in the mood for their small bites! It is indeed as good as we had heard on online reviews. The goodness of real sweet potato is evident with every bite, and it comes with a very taste-bud pleasing cheese sauce and a tangy tomato salsa sauce, though the sweet potato fries is good enough to eat on its own. It is worth mentioning that they are not salty like most fries are.

And, I finally got to try the Poteato Chips ($5.20). Just couldn't resist the thin and crispy hand sliced chips. I love it that they are so thin, it makes it all the more crispy and great to munch! I like my chips with the cheese sauce, it makes a perfect snack! The fries and chips comes with the same two sauces as the fries and a small serving of salad.

This is also the first time I am trying their spaghetti. I chose the Cream Sauce Spaghetti ($12). It is rich and creamy with lots of bacon bits, it is not exactly the best spaghetti around, but it is a decent and tasty one. Portion is just right. This is only available on the dinner menu.

Food and drinks are great at Poteato, at least they are to me. I particularly like the Iced Teas in Poteato, and their small bites snacks!

I have always love the all day breakfast menu at Coffee Bean as well as their pasta menu. Had lunch with a friend who have not tried the food here before.

We were in a pasta mood today, so we ordered the Tomato & Herb fusilli ($9.90) and Salmon & Cream fusilli ($11.50)... my friend changed her salmon fettucine to fusilli. We added $1.50 for a drink, an ice fruit tea and a hot tea.

I have tried the all day breakfast before and it includes a free drink, but for their pasta menu, you need to top up $1.50. Still, its quite worth it.

The tomato & herb is quite nice, I dont really like tomato based pasta but thought of just trying it out... I feel that there is like too much of the tomato sauce though. The salmon & cream is nice, I have tried it before too. But I have to say their pasta serving is too big, always cannot finish.... so, normally I would prefer their breakfast menu, unless Im hungry and in the mood for pasta!

Awesome Food! Smile Mar 13, 2014

Lunching at Flock Cafe with friends on a weekday afternoon is a quiet and calm affair, as compared to the non-stop crowds on weekends, this was quite a great chance for us to relish in the quiet moment, and chill and slowly enjoying a peaceful lunch. There were only about two other tables in the cafe other than us.

It was our first time at Flock, and we really wanted to try everything so we ordered 4 dishes to share. We ordered the Creamy Bacon and Poached Egg pasta ($14.90) and we were blown away. It looked really creamy but it was really a full plate of creamy goodness and it tasted real good! Surprisingly, we didn't feel that it was too creamy for us to feel sick... in fact, the creamy pasta was soooo finger lickin good that we wiped it clean off the plate. The poached egg was done nicely and the yolk once we poked the egg just came flowing onto the already yummy pasta. Shiok! There was a lot of bacon, it was good too, but a little bit salty!

The Rocket, Portobello & Cherry Tomato pasta ($14.50) was another great choice! The pasta was al dente, and we loved the springy and spiciness of the pasta, though it could be better if it was more spicy! This pasta is very appetitising and we should mention we just love the pastas here, just judging from these two that we ordered! Pasta menu are only available on weekdays though!

The Banana French Toast with Crispy Bacon ($13.90) is nice too, I guess bananas and bacons make another best combi too! Dunked in maple syrup, the french toast is sweet and delightful! I only tried a bit as I do not really fancy french toast but my friends loved it!

The Eggs Sally ($15.90) is two poach eggs with smoked salmon atop the english muffins. I love the eggs! I cant say much about the smoked salmon as I personally do not usually eat or like smoked salmon, but I tried a bite of the smoked salmon with the eggs and I find it quite acceptable. My friends love the Eggs Sally though!

In conclusion, our meal at Flock was a pleasant and satisfying one. We did enjoy the food a lot and the weekday charm of the cafe...
