Duck Confit Spaghettini

Duck Confit Spaghettini

Ordered Duck Confit Spaghettini (costs $9.80 after deducting from the 1-for-1 pasta dinner promotion), because I thought the combination of duck confit and spaghetti was pretty cool. However, I was disappointed with the dish. Noodles were not al dente (too soft), duck was not tender (a bit tough) and the oil used was a bit too much. Tried my friend's Smoked Salmon Angelhair pasta and it wasn't worth the money and calories. Doubt I'll be back soon.

Almond Crumb Fillet

Almond Crumb Fillet

I got the Almond Crumb Fillet (appx $10.40, after 20% off Opening Promotion). I thought the price could be slightly lower because this is not a filling dish, unless you finish the mashed potato (but anyway, the mashed potato is bland, so I see no point eating it). Could have seasoned more for the mashed potatoes. As for the fillet itself, it's quite interesting. Crispy on the outside and the almond flakes added crunch. However, the accompanying gravy tasted a little bit "fruity", hence I found it weird. Besides that, I like the vegetables a lot, especially the broccoli. It was seasoned with some spices and it was extremely tasty.

Horrible Vongole Cry Mar 14, 2014
Categories : European | Pasta | Paella

I got the set lunch, which comes with a Soup of the Day, a Main and a Drink.

Soup of the day was Cream of Corn, and it was the soup that's the highlight of the whole meal... Soup was comforting to drink, add in pepper for a spicy kick. There were some corn kernels in the soup too, for added crunch. I liked the soup.

Moving on to the Vongole, the wine base was too overpowering. It felt like I was "eating" a very strong alcoholic drink. Linguine could have been a little softer. If I would want to eat vongole, I will go to Peperoni Pizzeria instead, where they are more generous with the pasta and venus clams. Also, their white wine base is done to perfection.

I chose the Iced Lemon Tea for my drink, don't bother getting it because it's not sweet, despite adding sugar syrup in it.

Doubt I'll be back anytime soon, given that there are so many other better food establishments serving better pastas. Even the pastas at Pizza Hut are better than Ambush, in my opinion.

Fantastic Thai Food! Smile Mar 14, 2014

Categories : Thai | Restaurant

Went to Soi Thai on a Friday afternoon and it was packed! Luckily, my friends and I managed to get a table outdoors.

My friend, Eugenia and I both shared the Mango Salad. If you have a low tolerance for taking spicy food, DO NOT order the mango salad! Halfway through the salad, both of us were struggling to complete the dish because it was extremely spicy! Other than that, this is a pretty refreshing appetiser. I will recommend this if the chef goes easier on the chilli.

Next, we ordered the clear Tom Yum Soup. I thought Tom Yum Soup should looks more "red" but I was wrong! This Tom Yum soup was sour and spicy, it was such a pleasure slupring down the soup! They were generous with the ingredients in the soup too! This was the best dish amongst the rest. Very shiok!

The Pad Thai we ordered tasted ordinary, not very outstanding. Feels like I'm eating a local version of char kway teow.

Eugenia and I got the Pineapple Rice to share. Tastes average too, and it is quite oily. Nothing special about the dish.
What a Spread!

Xiao Long Bao is the Best! Smile Mar 14, 2014

Categories : Dim Sum

Mention Din Tai Fung to anyone and they'll know DTF is famous for its Xiao Long Bao, and true enough, DTF lives up to its name.

The XLB are made fresh on site, and are served piping hot. Personally, I like to poke a hole into the XLB, then pour out the soup in it, drink the soup first, and then dip the XLB in vinegar and eat it with the ginger slices provided. The perfect combination! I can have 10 XLB in one seating!

Next, I got the Prawn Dumpling Noodles. Soup was comforting; tastes even better when you put pepper in it. Eat the noodles with the chilli oil on the side for additional spicy kick and dip the dumplings in vinegar. Again, this dish was fantastic. Worth the money!
