This hole (albeit not a small one) in the wall is an interesting concept to the area. It is akin to a mini "Marché" and yet there is enough variety for it is very popular with nearby residents and expatriates alike.

We felt like Japanese for dinner and that was exactly what we went for.

Ordered a couple of beers, and we tried the Japanese set ($16 promo, usually $23), which consisted of a long strip of thinly sliced beef, and 5 slices of salmon sashimi. Good value for the price, and tasted great!

The beef was tender and the sauce it was served in set off the taste in balance.

The salmon sashimi was fresh, and they were not that thinly sliced. Salmon sashimi on its own is also good value at $3.90.

Another dish we tried was the garlic crab fried rice ($8). Loved it!

The place is laid-back and chilled, no AC but plenty of ceiling / wall fans provide sufficient ventilation and "wind". Prices are reasonable, and no service charge, and all customers order at the counter (pay first), then the food gets served to your table.

Cons: Can get really packed, and I am not sure if they take any reservations. Also, the carpark just in front of Pigsfly does not allow for any grace period.

Would I go back again? Most definitely! I am already thinking about my next visit.

It was a weekday when we decided to try Kotobuki for dinner.

As a start, we ordered serving of the Unagi Roll ($20) to share. Portion was generous, and I liked that the Unagi placed on top of the roll was still warm. Very tasty.Next, we ordered Salmon Sashimi. 5 pieces that were well cut, and very fresh, but slightly pricey ($20).Finally, we had cold soba with tempura ($18). Generous serving again, and tasty.I will be back again to try other dishes, but will attempt to order before 7pm, as they offer 20% discount for orders placed before 7pm.

Our group of 7 was at Marché Movenpick for dinner. We decided to order a few mains to try.

First up we ordered the Antipasti Pizza ($19.90), with grilled vegetables, oyster mushrooms and mixed herbs. It was a generous portion and pretty tasty. Next, we had the Daily Special of Roasted Suckling Pig in Braised Red Cabbage and Potato Dumpling in Dark Beer Sauce ($26.90). This dish was so-so, and the pig was not tender enough.We also had the Ribeye Steak 220g (US Angus) ($39.90). It was grilled nicely for medium rare, and served with oven roasted young potatoes and caesar salad.Lastly for dessert, we ordered the Nutella and Banana Crepe ($12.90), which was topped with Movenpick Vanilla Ice-Cream. This was average, as the Nutella was not melted and came out slightly thick and hard.Overall, it was a mixed meal - with both good and not so-good.

If in the area again, we might probably give another place a try.

Balestier is full of food places and not to mention there are many stores just selling Tau Sar Piah alone.

I have been told that this particular store "House of Tau Sar Piah" is an old family business, so I decided to give it a try.The normal Sweet & Salty Tau Sar Piahs are just average, but I really enjoyed the Red Bean one ($0.60). It was not too sweet nor too oily.

I might just go back for more.

We were a party of five and it was a good thing we made reservations.

For appetizers, we shared the PS caesar and the popular truffle shoestring fries. Portions were generous.One of us had the catch of the day, which was plated quite nicely. Tasted good too.For desserts, we shared three slices of cake. The double chocolate blackout cake, a slice of the lemon cake, and another slice of the chocolate daily special. The chocolate cakes were very rich and not overly sweet.Prices were average between $8-$30.

Nice chilled ambience to have tea.
