This hole in the wall is up in Novena Medical Building. It is a discreet cafe which you would not otherwise know of unless you explore the Medical Building linked to Novena Square 2.

We decided to head there for Brunch on a weekday and it was less crowded than on weekends.

Each of us had a serving of the Grande Breakfast ($14), which consisted of salad, bacon, eggs (scrambled, poached or omelette), mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, and two slices of buttered sour dough bread.

Very tasty.

Service was good, and I loved the rustic ambience and plants, which reminded me a bit of PS Cafe.

Will be back to try other menu items!

This is one of my favourite Chinese restaurants for casual dining.

We decided to head there for lunch on a weekday.

First dish, we ordered Century Egg Sliced Pork Congee to share. Very good.

Next, we had the Steamed Crab Meat with Egg White to share. Tasty.

Then we ordered dim sum.

BBQ Pork Buns. Good.

Salted Custard Buns. Tasty. I liked that the insides were still melty and warm.

Finally, we had Red Bean dessert to share.

I can already see myself coming back soon!

Japanese Dinner Smile Feb 14, 2014

It was a weekday when we decided to try Kotobuki for dinner.

As a start, we ordered serving of the Unagi Roll ($20) to share. Portion was generous, and I liked that the Unagi placed on top of the roll was still warm. Very tasty.

Next, we ordered Salmon Sashimi. 5 pieces that were well cut, and very fresh, but slightly pricey ($20).

Finally, we had cold soba with tempura ($18). Generous serving again, and tasty.

I will be back again to try other dishes, but will attempt to order before 7pm, as they offer 20% discount for orders placed before 7pm.

Teochew Lo Hei Smile Feb 14, 2014

We were there for Lunar New Year lo hei, thinking it'd be nice to have Teochew style for a change. We started off with the lo hei which was good. I like how Teochew style is more simple compared to Cantonese ones.

Next we had ngoh hiang. Crispy without being too oily. Tasted good.

Steamed promfret was nicely done with salted vegetables.

Subsequently, we had white cabbage with mushrooms. This was nicely done with the cabbage not too soggy.

We also tried their steamed cold crab. Very good.

What is Teochew cuisine without duck? Their braised duck was tender and appetizing.

Finally, we had a serving of fried rice to share. This was average in taste.

I will definitely be back again. Without reservations, it is difficult to get seats as typically this restaurant is crowded even on weekday nights.

Bah Kut Teh  Smile Feb 06, 2014

Categories : Chinese | Hawker Centre | Chinese Soup

This is a new stall in the Balestier Food Centre. They serve pig's organs soup, Bah Kut Teh soup etc.

We tried the Bah Kut Teh soup ($4.50).

There were about 4-5 pieces of pork ribs in the soup, together with garlic cloves.

Soup was tasty (not too oily or salty), and portion was a good size.

Will be back to try the other soups another time.
