Prata & Mutton Soup at 0200H… Cry May 17, 2015
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Indian | Malay | Coffeeshop

Craving for authentic Prata at the wee hours & a friend brought us here…

## First Impression ##

I find it interesting to see a bell on each table - just press for service once you're seated…
The tables are clean,  neat & close to each other, but a little too cramp for comfort.

The Menu is really thick for a corner coffee shop eatery like this. I'd come to realize that they don't just serve one type of ethnic food.
They have Malay dishes, Indian Food, Chinese Zi-char & also Western Cuisine!!!
All halal, of course…

## After Thoughts ##

I guess it's really difficult to get only 1 type of ethnic food at any one eatery nowadays.
I mean the eateries are just having a too diverse & a too complicated menu…
Thus making them "Jack of All Trade but Master of None"…

## The Food ##

My Prata Plain Onion is blend & not very crispy…perhaps it's because of the fan right next to our table...

Hubby says there's very little onion in his 2 pieces of Prata Egg Onion & they tasted just so-so only.

The complementary Kari Ikan tasted blend, like Sambal Chili cooked with extra liquid & added a little more lime…it looks as red as that, too.

Our friend specially requested for a separate Ayam Kari ($3). There's no curry flavor in this dish though the Chicken is not tough (just a little dry). Definitely not the Indian Curry that we used to know…as if like the same red, Sambal-curry with added chicken or fish pieces upon request…though in a slightly bigger side plate.

Our friend also requested for Dhall to compliment her Prata Double Egg but it is not served.

The Mutton Soup is peppery, flavorful but a tad too powdery (if you know what I mean). The meat is tough, too. Hmm…funny that Sambal is served together with this soup…

It's very surprising that we need another cup of the hot beverages, as we don't usually do that. Wonder why we are so thirsty...especially when the drinks have nothing fantastic to shout about. We expected them to be more frothy…

## Conclusion ##
Hubby & I agree that we will not be back here anytime soon.

PS: We are billed twice for the last 2 drinks after a little confusion of us reminding them to bring our drinks. Hubby walks over to clarify with the cashier & it's refunded.

Hungry at 0030H… Cry May 10, 2015
Categories : Malay | Coffeeshop

It's past midnight. We had breakfast, skipped lunch & is hungry now…

Tired of eating at our neighborhood's 24H coffee shop…so we chose to drive here.

First time trying this eatery although we stay very near to this district.

Hmm…I noticed there's a difference in the name as it's now called "Enak Selera Hong Kong Tea House" (see stall front picture).

I ordered Kebab Popiah with Cheese ($6.50) while hubby had Roti John King ($5.50). We both wanted hot drink so it's Coffee Tarik ($1.10) & Tea Tarik ($1.10) for us.

## First Impression ##

I liked…
- the neat rows of sitting…
- the staff's palm-size digital ordering device…
- the business hours 1130H to 0500H…
- the clean tables (attentive staff clear the tables as soon as customers proceed to the Cashier)…
- the big portion of food…

## After Thoughts ##

I don't like…
- our hot beverages are lukewarm…
- our Tarik beverages are not the "Tarik" type that we'd expected (later we found that bill states as Coffee & Tea HK only)…
- the cleaners were efficient but scraps of food were swiped to the floor…
- the gangways are very narrow, it's difficult not to be disturbed when staff or customer passed by…

## The Food ##

My Kebab Popiah has nothing much to shout about.
It's filled mainly with sauces (thousand island, mayo & chili), tasted like there's only a small piece of sliced chicken cutlet, a few tiny shreds of lettuce & tomatoes…all wrapped in a thick tortilla.
The Cheese Fries, on the other hand, is very crispy & goes well with the swirls of cheese sauce & sour cream sauce.
I hardly touched the chili sauce that came with my dish (too much sauces to stomach at one go)…

Hubby's Roti John King is filled with Black-Pepper Sauce drenched deep fried Chicken & Mutton pieces sprinkled with shreds of lettuce sandwiched between 2 slices of bread that is soaked generously with egg. It is then topped with swirls of cheese sauce, sour cream & chili sauce before serving.
He said it tasted more like a Western style food. The sauces are very jelat…so much so that he said he is not going to eat another Roti John like this anymore!

## Conclusion ##

We find the pricing is ok for this type of coffee-shop setting. But, we will not come back to try their so-called "Local" dishes & beverages any time soon…

Bleh... Cry Jun 28, 2014

Categories : Food Court | Desserts and Cakes

It's a scorching day.
I walked in wanting to cool off from the heat & quench my thirst.
Hmm...there's a different lady preparing the desserts, today.
Hopeful that she'll be generous with the ice shavings.
smile

Hey! They finally displayed a user-friendly menu...

Nice... smile

I placed an order for Ice Cheng Tng.
Wow!
She's a fast worker!
My bowl of the sweet soup appeared instantly!
I didn't even got time to get my payments ready!
lol

What a disappointment...! sad
Oh my...what had happened?!
shocked
Bitter Gingko Nuts, Bland Longans & Sweet Soup tasted like Water!!!

Bitter Gingko Nuts, Bland Longans & Sweet Soup tasted like Water!!!

This is definitely not the Cheng Tng that I used to like here...
I tried my very best to eat...but failed.
I brought my bowl of "sweet" soup back to the lady when the queue had gone. She grumbled that a lot of people had been complaining that it was too sweet even though I told her that it tasted like plain water. sad

A man walked over to queue behind me while I thanked her after she added ½ a scoop of syrup. They had a "little" loud discussion on my request...it was so embarrassing!
How I wished I could ask them to taste it...?! sad

Anyway,I walked back to finish the dessert.
It was really a ton of difference!
Perhaps, they should have a SOP for the preparation.

This experience made me think more than twice to patronize it again!
OR...maybe, I should had been more observance & only order when the other lady was preparing the desserts.

sad sad sad

Spending per head: Approximately $1.50

Needed More… Cry Apr 02, 2014

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Coffeeshop | Chicken Rice | Roasted Meat

There's a famous Chinese saying…创业难,守业更难 (to start a business is hard, but to maintain it is even harder). It was already 5.30pm when we stepped into this coffee shop for dinner. There were no queues at the stalls & only a few tables were occupied. Surprised, but we merely dismissed it that the crowd would perhaps gathered later (no crowd appeared when we left at 6.15pm).

The stall's signature dish seemed to be Char Siew Wanton Noodles (叉烧云吞面) as it was very prominent & so we were tempted.

I've never dislike a serving of Char Siew Wanton Noodle like this.

- The Char Siew tasted sweet (not those meaty sweetness) & the texture was near mushy…
- Gravy was bland
- Noodle was chewy (not al dente) & rubbery
- 2 of the 3 pieces of wanton were stuck together, also found too little meat  (as if eating skin only)…
- The clear soup had a mild taste of blanch-noodle water…
- The red chili sauce was not spicy but sweet…
- Cut green chili was the only think that was ok

$3 was considered cheap but I would not recommend it at all.

Yes. This stall needed more, much more than just fame. They really have to put in more, very much more effort to win back their customers.

PS: I only found out that this outlet was one of the famous Rong Kee Roasted Delights stall prior to searching for it to write this review. Apparently, there were more than 35 outlets located island wide! Also found a video clip of this Franchise in YouTube.

Chillaxing… OK Apr 21, 2015
Categories : American | Fast Food | Halal | Burgers and Sandwiches

I like the cozy ambience, the al-fresco sitting arrangement, the quiet surrounding on a weekday evening (with not a crowd to be seen). the clean tables & chairs, the good ventilation provided by the fans, the small ordering counter, the bigger collection counter, the bright colored block posters on the shelves, the happy & courteous staff.

However, I don't like the BK Black Beef Burger. The patty was very thin, bland and dry. The bacon is soggy, the lettuce is lifeless, even the flat black bun is tasteless. I don't like the chilli sauce either. It's not self-service like the other fast food joints.

Though I kinda…
Like the size of the soft drinks & the not-so-salty fries…or did the burger just got smaller?!

Last but not least…
We definitely don't like the price inflation…!!!
Pathetic Black…
