A Cozy & Serene Place OK Apr 06, 2014
Categories : Bars/Lounges

We came here wanting to visit Miss U Cafe but only to find One Bistro Wine Bar at its location. It looked like a nice wine & dine place, so we went in. There were a few alfresco dining tables outside the main entrance. Inside was cool, cozy, calm & tranquil. Not many tables were occupied then but every customer seemed to be wearing a smile, looked contented & chatting away happily.

The streams of beautiful crystals & lights at the glass-panel seats was sparkling like a page from a fairytale. It caught my attention & the service staff immediately led us to the sofa seats.

Once seated, the service staff brought us glasses of iced water & lightly introduced us to some items on the menu. I was pleasantly surprised when he then excused himself politely to allow us some privacy to go through the menu on our own.

The hint of lemon in the iced water was very refreshing. Ahh...

Hubby decided on Nutella Banana Crepe ($8.90) & Iced Hazelnut Chocolate ($6.50) while I ordered an Irish Cream Latte ($5.90). The service staff took our order, repeated it, thanked us & left.
smile

Hubby asked for the staff again as he emerged from the kitchen. We were worried that we didn't see any sign indicating the use of parking coupons as we walked in. He reassured us that this area was considered a private estate & so no parking coupons were required. Nice...

However, the restaurants will be fully packed & no car park lots will be available on the nights of any typical weekend, eve of Public Holidays & on Public Holidays.

The food did not take long to arrive...but one look & we both agreed that the spread must have been done by an intern chef... lol   I couldn't helped but noticed that the crepe was done the other side up & it also reminded me of a baby wrapped in pampers... tongue
That gave us a good chuckles...

Nutella Banana Crepe ($8.90) & Iced Hazelnut Chocolate ($6.50)

Hubby said that it didn't taste as bad as its look. The combination of plain crepe, fresh banana, Nutella spread & chocolate ice-cream was quite pleasant on the palate. But the Iced Hazelnut Chocolate was rather bland. It was not cold enough & lacked the fragrance of the hazelnut & the soothing chocolaty taste.
Irish Cream Latte ($5.90)

My Irish Cream Latte was another letdown. It was not hot enough & did not smell nor have any taste of the Irish Cream.

Verdict: chopstick

The whole experience was rather disappointing. Perhaps if we were here at a more popular time slot, it would be completely different. After all, we've always wanted to visit a restaurant with such ambiance that was also located not far from home. Besides, the staff were efficient, polite & friendly. We both agreed that we would give it another chance in the near future.

Chee Cheong Fun 猪腸粉 Smile Apr 03, 2014
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Food Court | Dim Sum

Wanted to have a little snack before grocery shopping at NTUC. Chee Cheong Fun 猪腸粉 was always my favorite here.

The liquify white batter was steamed & rolled-up just right, not too mushy & not too hard. Some stalls kept them in the display steamer for too long without adding fresh water & all turned hard & dry. This is just…right. It tasted as if freshly made…ala minute! The lady was generous with their special sauce, chili sauce & sesame seeds, so nice…
smile

My humble opinion:
I always eat this dish with a metal spoon, so I can get more sauce with every spoonful. You try la…it's very fulfilling to eat this way de…

Verdict: chopstickchopstickchopstick

This plate costs $1.50 but it'll be only $2.20 if you select their Yuan Yang 鴛鴦 (Chee Cheong Fun 猪腸粉 plus Yam Cake 芋头糕). Cheap hor…?

Needed More… Cry Apr 02, 2014
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Coffeeshop | Chicken Rice | Roasted Meat

There's a famous Chinese saying…创业难,守业更难 (to start a business is hard, but to maintain it is even harder). It was already 5.30pm when we stepped into this coffee shop for dinner. There were no queues at the stalls & only a few tables were occupied. Surprised, but we merely dismissed it that the crowd would perhaps gathered later (no crowd appeared when we left at 6.15pm).

The stall's signature dish seemed to be Char Siew Wanton Noodles (叉烧云吞面) as it was very prominent & so we were tempted.

I've never dislike a serving of Char Siew Wanton Noodle like this.

- The Char Siew tasted sweet (not those meaty sweetness) & the texture was near mushy…
- Gravy was bland
- Noodle was chewy (not al dente) & rubbery
- 2 of the 3 pieces of wanton were stuck together, also found too little meat  (as if eating skin only)…
- The clear soup had a mild taste of blanch-noodle water…
- The red chili sauce was not spicy but sweet…
- Cut green chili was the only think that was ok

$3 was considered cheap but I would not recommend it at all.

Yes. This stall needed more, much more than just fame. They really have to put in more, very much more effort to win back their customers.

PS: I only found out that this outlet was one of the famous Rong Kee Roasted Delights stall prior to searching for it to write this review. Apparently, there were more than 35 outlets located island wide! Also found a video clip of this Franchise in YouTube.

"Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne…"
All good times will come to an end…
This outlet will be changed to Nihon Mura Express from 01 April 2014 onwards. We just have to come here for a farewell buffet feast…in the spirit of Auld Lang Syne…

We were immediately seated at our preferred table as soon as we arrived.

My humble opinion:
The same great food, simple yet practical deco, prompt & friendly service, cozy & clean environment & the reasonable prices had lured us back again & again…
smile

Presenting the feast…
~ all the thickly sliced, fresh sashimi…nomm-nomm-nomm! (Must have 2nd servings!)
~ the mashed potato were filled with tuna flakes…mmm!
~ the fresh, chewy scallop skirting…yum!
~ the slightly spicy, well seasoned jelly fish…yum-yum!
~ the sweet black soya beans…the skin is so soft…mmm!
~ my favorite veggies tempura…so yummy that I ordered it again!
~ my daughter's crispy tempura CrabSticks & fried Maki…salivating!
~ the grilled Shiitake Mushrooms…chomp, chomp, chomp!
~ the succulent Mentai Mussels…slurp!
~ the not-too-sweet Teriyaki Mid-Wings…so juicy!
~ ok…the bacon was a little too salty but the freshly grilled asparagus were crunchy…still a yummy combination!
~ I saw how the chef made our avocado maki…exquisite!
~ then came the lobster salad fried maki…heavenly!
smile

Yes. It was a very hot day & we were very thirsty having to run around with our errants. However, I still could not recall how the 3 of us could gulped down 10 glasses of icy soft drinks & 1 cup of hot green tea!
tongue
During the sumptuous 2 hours feast, we also gobbled up a good 30 serving plates of cuisine!
We had a truly great time!

Verdict: chopstickchopstickchopstick

Hopefully, the good food & great service will continue even after the restaurant changed to Nihon Mura Express.

PS: Benny, Ben & Daniel were very helpful & friendly. Our food & drinks were served promptly & always with a smile. The used plates were cleared as soon as we left them at the side! They ought to be voted as the best service staff ever!

I'm a Devotee Again! Smile Mar 27, 2014
Categories : American | Halal

Remember this date, remember this time, 11.03pm…
Alone at McCafe Tampines Mall, I am a Devotee again!

The place is quite clean, as in all other fast food outlets. The yellow lighting creates a warm & cozy ambiance. You can find different seatings available: the cushioned armchairs, the cushioned stools, the straight-back wooden chairs & the bar chairs, take your pick.
There was no crowd, maybe because it was near closing time. This outlet closes at midnight from Sunday to Thursday (non-midnight movie days).
The service was relatively fast. I waited less than 5mins. I took the armchair seat at the side of the entrance after collecting my Clementine Orange Mousse Cake & Cappuccino Set.

My humble opinion:
The small cup of cappuccino has a lingering coffee fragrance with a hint of the warm foamy milk. I instantly grew a milk mustache.
tongue

The base if the cake is made of smoothly crushed, creamy butter-cookies. A layer of slightly moist orange-colored sponge rested on it while an equal layer of orange flavored mousse that's filled with chunky orange pulp was on top of the sponge. Then, one more layer of sponge cake with another layer of mousse followed…before everything was topped off with a thin layer of refreshingly lemon gelatin & decorated with a small piece of gold-tinted white chocolate square. Traces of untorched fine sugar were found on the side of the cake. Sweetly adding with a touch of texture to the cake…

Hmm… I suggest to eat with a fork, cutting downward, so the whole bite-size of the cake (all layers, including the gelatin) will be rested on the fork.
Your taste buds will first be awaken by the tangy-lemony gelatin, followed by the flavorful orange mousse. Next, the melted divine will be mixed into the soft sponge & you will reach nirvana when your tongue started to twirl & swallow. Your teeth now await for the chunky, juicy pulp as you put in the second bite… Exquisite!

Verdict: chopstickchopstickchopstick

I highly recommend this Clementine Orange Mousse Cake & Cappuccino Set.
Especially when it is on promotion at $6.80.
Instead of paying $8.15 (when buying them separately).
