Awesome food! Smile Dec 21, 2014

We wanted to go to Wo Peng but it was full house and we did not make a reservation. So we walked down the street and chanced upon this restaurant. And it was a blessing in disguise! The restaurant served a variety of stuff! For instance, there were 10 types of chicken dishes in the menu! We ordered their signature tofu, together with salted egg pork ribs and 3-egg spinach. They served fried crackers and wet tissues, which you can opt not to have if you want to reduce unnecessary cost. The spinach was average and were a little harder than what i preferred. The starch gravy was not the most flavourful one that i have eaten. Their tofu was good, a little hard on the outside and jelly-like soft in the inside! On top of it were cai po (salted garnish) and flour bits, which gave the crunchy feel as you eat the tofu together with the rice. Delicious! The best of all was the salted egg pork ribs. This is the best salted egg marinated dish i have ever eaten! The pork ribs was actually without bones and the meat was soft. The salted egg flavouring was throughout the pork meat, unlike some places where you wished you had more salted egg! However, it does seem a little too salty after eating more than 5 pieces. Nevertheless, it was my favourite dish! We ordered all Small sizes as well as a bowl of rice each and were really full in the end. Total cost amounted to $32 for 2 pax. Reasonable.

Lunch in CBD - Soup OK Dec 21, 2014
Categories : Chinese Soup

Visited 一家村 for lunch today and ordered the lotus root pork rib soup, together with a bowl of rice. Would have preferred the bowl of soup to be larger than the rice! Nothing too special. The pork ribs meat was a little dry while the lotus roots a little too hard for my liking. The soup was flavourful since they have boiled it for hours. But towards the end it got saltier. You could find peanuts in the soup too. Nothing spectacular but not too bad either for a soup lover like me. It cost $5, which is common in the CBD area too.

Lunch in the CBD - Japanese OK Dec 21, 2014

Located along Telok Ayer St, Marukyu offers a great dining ambience for corporate diners as well as casual ones. The restaurant looks clean and neat - Japanese style.
Order the grilled cod fish, which tasted average to me though. The cod looked tiny and oily and was definitely not filling enough for me. Nothing too special. It was also served with rice, miso soup, as well as fried chicken karage. My friend ordered the grilled salmon, served together with rice, soup and 2 meat balls. The salmon tasted OK and was not too dry. The meat balls tasted sweet and savoury. If not for the rice, we would still be hungry!
The prices are considered relatively reasonable for such a restaurant setting.
The restaurant is well known for its fresh food. It may be more visible from their sushi and sashimi selections! Would definitely like to try them in future!

The ever-popular french eatery! OK Dec 20, 2014

Visited Saveur for the first time and wow, we had to wait for an hour for a seat! This seem to be a place popular with teenage groups. We went to a nearby coffeeshop for some drinks before our seats were ready.
We ordered the Crispy Duck Confit with orange. The orange taste was negligible in my opinion. The duck leg tasted average overall. Its skin was crispy and its meat was not too dry. Barely filled my stomach after finishing it!
My friend ordered Salmon Confit. It tasted soft with a mild taste and the salmon was fresh. Once again, a small portion served. We then ordered Angel's hair pasta to share. The portion was not huge either but it was then enough to fill our stomach. The pasta tasted flavourful and being a pasta-lover myself, i loved it. We also ordered their Foie Gras which was awesome. Soft and flavourful, we enjoyed this dish the most!
I was told that french food outside would cost way much more, hence this is a more economical option for french-food lovers.
The cafe was just filled with people and with everybody shouting to one another in the enclosed area, it was simply too noisy to speak to even the one sitting next to you! Not a very cool place for gatherings in my opinion.

The famous stateland OK Dec 09, 2014

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Café

Heard about the famous Stateland waffles so we decided to try it out one day. The cafe is very small with around 10 tables. The decorations portray a rustic feel. The menus were turning old passing through many hands. We would just order at the counter but pay after the meal. We ordered aglio olio but in my opinion, it lacked the fragrance of garlic. We then ordered the S'mores, which is chocolate waffle with toasted mashmallow and ice cream. The waffle has the egg taste but is crunchy and tasted good with chocolate.( But then again, everything taste good with chocolate!) We then ordered the Classic Honey Toast, which is the best of the 3 dishes. The toast were crispy on the outside and the berries added a little sour taste to the toast when eaten together. There was a jug of honey where you could decide how much honey you would like together with the toast.
