French Pastries@Antoinette Smile Oct 31, 2011

Categories : French | High Tea | Desserts and Cakes | Brunch

We were around this area and thought gave this a try as read so many reviews about their branch at Mandarin Gallery. The cafe will definitely catch the eyes of passers by as it stood out in this row of shops that none were appealing at all compared to it and the exterior decor of Antoinette was so posh looking that you won't missed it as the 'Queen' gladly welcome you into a world of indulgence.
The interior decor was so french and feminine looking and the place were nearly full when we came around 7 plus and customers kept coming in either for takeaways or dine in. I'm quite surprised that people really flocked here even at this area. A counter staff went through the cakes at the counter with us and all cakes and macaroons looked attractive and yummy but the price was pretty steep. Per piece of macaroons were at $2.50 and $2.80 the yuzi flavour was good. I had the Antoinette cake at $9.00, a milk chocolate mousse infused with earl grey tea that took me quite sometime to figure out what was it and honestly everything was nice apart from the earl grey tea thingy. The raspberry coulis was placed on the top of the cake and in a bubble form as though those of a capsule with fish oil, and it was sour but still okay. I liked the soft biscuit underneath the choc mousse. Along with the cake I had a cup of Vienne coffee at $6.00 and it was thick yet not aromatic enough.

Dinner In the Greens Smile Oct 27, 2011
Categories : Italian | Pasta

I had the privilege to come here to dine by invitations from the management. During the day, this restaurant serves breakfast and lunches and I have been here couple of times but have yet to come here for dinner where they serve mainly Italian cuisine. And tonight we were warmly welcomed by the team and greatly appreciate their hospitality towards us. The surroundings of the restaurant are all greens and airy enough when dine outdoor. Nice hideaway and the food overall was not bad.

Below were the food me and my friend ordered and to be shared:

Calamari( fried squid ring) - the batter was nice and the squid was fresh
Carpaccio Di Manzo(thinly sliced of raw beef fillet with lemon vinaigrette, arugula salad with parmesan shavings) - lovely combinations.
Bistecca Di Manzo( char grilled Aus rib eye steak with rosemary fries) - the beef was good, tender and tasty and done to perfection.
Presce Del Giorno Al Cartoccio(fresh fish of the day with cherry tomato, fennel, artichoke, clam baked in aluminium foil) - they used seabass which was fresh but the overall taste was ordinary.
Pizza Parma Ham with Rockets - crust was thin and crispy and plenty of mozarella cheese and heaps of rockets, nice but slightly oily.
Torta Di Lemone(warm lemon tart) - very refreshing and lemonly enough and the tart pastry was soft and butterly.
Creme Brulee - it was good and not too sweet
Frutta Tropicale Con Granito(Tropical fruits grantie with champagne splash) - the crushed ice splashed with champagne, quite ok only slightly bitter but my friend enjoyed it.
Latte Decaf - not too bad just not aromatic enough.

Traditional German Cake Smile Oct 20, 2011
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : German | Bakery

This is new at Takashimaya which they sell german and japanese confectionery and a traditional german cake called Baumkuchen and is one of the most popular cake in Japan, which they are baked each layer perfectly with a light and fluffy texture. Initially I thought it will be sweet and oily but it was not and I enjoyed it, and also I always prefer cakes without cream. I was advised that it can be kept for 4 days but by the 2nd day, the cake was gone! They are available in 4 sizes and the one I bought was $14 and they come in a beautiful packaging. Besides this cake, they also have cookies and chocolates available and they are yummy. Must try.

Raspberry Vanilla Tart Smile Sep 26, 2011
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : French | Bakery

Alfred, the owner knows which cookies or tarts are my favourite cos I faithfully buy these raspberry vanilla tarts since I got to know them when he started the shop around two years ago. One unique thing about this small tart is that it's eggless and make me less guilty on the cholesterol and overall not very sweet which is good and the raspberry jam is home made. One thing to take note is that it must be eaten whole and not biting it cos it's quite crumbly and will make a mess on the clothes and the floor. They do come in 100gm per packet @$3.80 or the whole tub at $14.50. Love it!

Ikan Penyet

Came to this food court to explore after facial. Was checking out all the stalls and basically they sell the same food as in other food court but only to find this indonesian stall a bit different. They sell mee soto to ikan or chicken penyet and I ordered the ikan penyet, they used black promfet and it was fresh and well fried along with crumbs splattered on top of the fish, crispy and yummy.
I was given a choice whether to have the plain rice or chicken rice which I chose the latter. The rice was so fragrant with ginger and garlic and really nice.
The set was at $5.50.
