Taiwanese Porridge Smile Nov 25, 2013
Categories : Taiwanese | Porridge/Congee

The most authentic Taiwanese Porridge that I have yet to have in Singapore. Will see how I feel after I try Hsin Yeh.

What really impressed me was how quick the food was served and how pipping hot it all was! You could see the smoke and steam still coming off the food as it's served on your table.

The dishes were rather salty but I suppose that's because you're supposed to have plenty of sweet potato congee with it. As a whole we may have over-ordered for 2 pax, but there was so many options to choose from. Total cost was about $50 for 4 dishes, but honestly, the dishes were enough to feed 4 people.

The service could have been better and they felt rather short-staffed. One of the few times where I felt like I owed the waitress money when they asked you what you would like to drink (Similar to some hawker centre experiences). Don't expect your drinks to be refilled immediately.

Deer Meat cooked with ginger and spring onions

Napkins

Intestines were very authentic with salted vegetables

Omelette with Cai Poh

Abalone mushroom with veggies

XLBs Smile Apr 11, 2013

Having lived in Taiwan for several years, it's quite difficult for me to get satisfied by xiao long baos. The meat can't be too lean, too fatty; the juice too oily; or the skin too thick

I was surprised that there standard for xiao long baos are still there. The skin is thin and even and doesn't break apart that easily.

Small dishes are weighed on a small weighing scales but packed so it looks like they are very generous.

The restaurant may be packed but their service is good with their continuous pouring of tea. The waiters and waitresses are also considerate by giving you a small basket to put your bags and a cloth to cover it.

For the price you pay & the quality that you get, it's quite worth it.
No visit to Din Tai Feng is worth it without an order of xiao long baos.

Dinner before Concert OK Jul 10, 2012
Categories : Noodles

There are food options at Imperial Treasure that are 'light' and not so oily.

The sliced pork appetizer though not exactly 'healthy', is not considered a fried food. A very nice appetizer that comes with a thick spicy garlic sauce. Ask that the staff don't take it away as it complements nicely with other dishes as well.

The Chicken soup is really nice if you're feeling under the water. The meat that was in the soup was still tender, but I preferred to eat it with the remainder sauce from the Sliced pork appetizer.

Do note that if you're rushing to a concert, you can tell the waiter/waitresses nicely when you are lining up for the restaurant and also when you are ordering. They are quite understanding on this smile

Multi-colored XLB Smile Jul 10, 2012

Consisting of 8 flavors, one of their specialty dishes is their multi-colored XLBs
Have tried their Black Truffle, Garlic, Cheese, and Crab Roe, and Foie Gras combo which is quite distinct
There is also Ginseng and other flavors which have slipped my mind now.

Seems more worth it to order the various flavors especially if it's your first time trying it. I would say the Crab Roe, Foie Gras, and Black Truffle is more flavorful. There's also a specific order in which you're supposed to eat it so you can appreciate each flavor without having had the previous overpowering what you're eating now

Come here when you're trying to impress guests that aren't familiar with the Chinese cuisine as the waiter who goes around pouring your tea with long nozzle is a show in itself.

Xiao Long Bao Fix Smile Jul 10, 2012
Categories : Taiwanese | Chinese | Restaurant | Dim Sum

Din Tai Fung is one of the Xiao Long Bao options that is originally from Taiwan.
As their noodles are not really their specialty, their must-eat dishes are actually their appetizers and the xiao long bao itself.

A basket of 10 original pork dumplings. Coming here to eat without ordering this dish is a mistake.

Shrimp Cake that reminded me of the Thai 'Moon' Cake

Slices of Pork wrapped around cucumber with a heavy garlicy taste.
Absolutely Taiwanese!

Tender beef slices garnished with spring onion.
Would be perfect with some carbs

Promotion dumplings that had Red Bean Paste as the main filling along with a Dark Chocolate in the centre which melted when you bit into it. First time trying this and it was quite delightful!
