Cheesecake! OK Jul 10, 2012
Categories : Café | Kids-Friendly

Place to consider for a quick bite in town with a decent setting. They're supposed to be quite big on their cakes so we ordered keeping in mind to leave some space for dessert.

Strawberry Cheesecake with whipped cream. I felt that the cheesecake could have been thicker and creamier. Perhaps I should go for the American Cheesecake next time.

Hamburger's presentation looked like cafe food

Pesto with Pine Nuts seemed a tad green than what I was used to but the noodles were al dente (which is good!). The taste was just right in the sense that it wasn't overly salty and wasn't bland. A good thing to note was that the red and yellow peppers were cooked well and did not seem like airplane food.

Set Meal for Dinner Smile Jul 10, 2012
Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

Ordered the set meal for 2
It included drinks, sashimi, salad, and you could choose from a few other options

The milk tea tasted a little weird which was disappointing as I thought watami would have decent milk tea. The salmon sashimi, however, was rather fresh.

The salad was one of my favorite dishes of the night. Despite it being a part of each set meal, the salad dressing paired really well. The salad pieces seemed fresh and crunchy and I liked how it the salad sauce was not thousand island based but had the Japanese "He Feng" Sauce.

The bibimbap was decent, but the sauce could have been more authentic. Waiter/waitress should have asked whether they needed to help serve as first timers may not know how to deal with this dish.

The soup in the hotpot was pretty good, though a tad salty. The waiter was also very willing to top up the soup base as the bowl wasn't very deep. Would have been good if the beef was served separately as the meat was the first to go as we didn't want to overcook it.

The clams weren't bad, would have been better if there was more alcohol used to cook it, but itw as served in a claypot which kept it warm.

Specialty Soup OK Jul 10, 2012

Ordered the Bread bowl for the first time

What the bowl looks like when it's closed

How the bread bowl looks like with the cap off.
The soups are thick and really hearty-- I could barely eat halfway down the bread bowl.

Friend ordered the Pumpkin Soup along with the Sandwich.
I feel that this is the better bang for the buck as you can get variations in taste and texture.
The Pumpkin soup has some pepper inside so it might be slightly peppery for those whom avoid Black Pepper. Definitely recommend getting the half soup and half salad or half soup and half sandwich (if you have the stomach space!)

Don't forget to sign up as their member as it's free and you can collect points too!
A good place to hang out as you can sit as long as you want and they won't chase you away.

Multi-colored XLB Smile Jul 10, 2012
Categories : Shanghainese | Restaurant | Dim Sum | Noodles

Consisting of 8 flavors, one of their specialty dishes is their multi-colored XLBs
Have tried their Black Truffle, Garlic, Cheese, and Crab Roe, and Foie Gras combo which is quite distinct
There is also Ginseng and other flavors which have slipped my mind now.

Seems more worth it to order the various flavors especially if it's your first time trying it. I would say the Crab Roe, Foie Gras, and Black Truffle is more flavorful. There's also a specific order in which you're supposed to eat it so you can appreciate each flavor without having had the previous overpowering what you're eating now

Come here when you're trying to impress guests that aren't familiar with the Chinese cuisine as the waiter who goes around pouring your tea with long nozzle is a show in itself.

Xiao Long Bao Fix Smile Jul 10, 2012
Categories : Taiwanese | Chinese | Restaurant | Dim Sum

Din Tai Fung is one of the Xiao Long Bao options that is originally from Taiwan.
As their noodles are not really their specialty, their must-eat dishes are actually their appetizers and the xiao long bao itself.

A basket of 10 original pork dumplings. Coming here to eat without ordering this dish is a mistake.

Shrimp Cake that reminded me of the Thai 'Moon' Cake

Slices of Pork wrapped around cucumber with a heavy garlicy taste.
Absolutely Taiwanese!

Tender beef slices garnished with spring onion.
Would be perfect with some carbs

Promotion dumplings that had Red Bean Paste as the main filling along with a Dark Chocolate in the centre which melted when you bit into it. First time trying this and it was quite delightful!
