Food isn't cheap.. OK Dec 29, 2013
Categories : Hawker Centre

Food isn't cheap and seating is tough to get, but it's a decent area to get different types of food in one location.

The Hokkien mee was fried well and wasn't overly salty, however, it started to taste a little bland after a while. It was the right combination of wetness without being too dry or too soupy.

The squid cost about $10; was tasty and seemed fresh, however, they served up a platter that was already cooked so it was kind of cold already..would have been so much better if it was hot and steaming off the grill.

Recommended Dish(es):  Hokkien mee

Ribs OK Dec 29, 2013

The line is not a problem if you head there early. If you are there by 6 or 6:30, there is no need to wait. However, I feel that the quality of food seems to have gone down. The way the food is served feels more like it's done in a fast food fashion and not like the restaurant that we'd rave about how authentic the food is and how great the portions are.

The corn was rather juicy and was easy to cut away the kernels from the cob. The fries were quite dry and did not feel like there was a lot of potato. The ribs were flavorful but it seemed like the meat was quite little and it was quite a fuss to get the meat off the bones. As in, there is more energy expelled to cut off the meat more so than the satisfaction received from the meat that you were consuming.

The service of the waitress can be quite nice if the food is served cold, you can request for them to heat it up, but it would be better if they had better quality control coming out of the kitchen so such requests wouldn't be necessary and so common.

Trying their Steak and Turf OK Dec 29, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Australian / New Zealand | Food Court

Always pass by this stall when I head down to Tanglin Mall for lunch, but never order anything cause it's more expensive than everything else in the mall.

There are quite a few combinations that you can choose from but the cashier didn't offer them to us when we ordered. I'm not sure if the owner changed somewhat, because my friends and I've ordered french fries from this place before and they offer quite a spread of sauces: wasabi mayo, mustard, ketchup, and chili sauce. However, when I asked they said, they didn't. Mayhaps the service wasn't that great.

The surf and turf choice as you can see seems to be overfilled with fried food. I think i wasn't very balanced and you get sort of sick of eating the fried food after a while, especially when there isn't a change in sauces. The shrimps were rather fresh though, but it felt like carbs and flour overload.

The steak was cooked rather well, but they didn't call us to tell us that it was our order when we were sitting right in front of the window ..that was kind of confusing and disappointing as the food was a tad cold when we had it. The food wasn't particularly filling but we spent less than $20 for those two plates.

Lots of choices in one venue OK Dec 17, 2013

Malaysia Boleh is pretty much a food court where they serve various Malaysian dishes. You need to see whether the line out of the store has customers holding a receipt or if they are still holding their wallets cause how you order and pay depends on which stall you order from. Ie. the Wanton noodles store & KL Hokkien Mee, you order first then join the line. The Char Kway Teow store you line up, order, then pay.
Penang Laksa

Penang Laksa

Penang Laksa was servied hot and it's a small bowl but backed with noodles. I found it interesting because there was pineapple included in the condiments.
Penang Char Kway Teow

Penang Char Kway Teow

Penang Char Kway Teow had a really long line but honestly, looking back, it wasn't really worth it. There was no ham (oysters), and it was pretty much a vegetarian char kway teow except with a couple of shrimps. For $4 and the long wait? Not worth it.
Frying the CKT

Frying the CKT

The poor cook who was cooking dish after dish of char kway teow.
Wanton Mee

Wanton Mee

Wanton noodles were chewy and tasty. The char siu was pretty good and rather fatty. The wait was a little bit long but not as long as the char kway teow line.
KL Hokkien Mee

KL Hokkien Mee

Not a huge fan of KL Hokkien Mee as the noodles though dark, didn't have much taste. Also, the noodles seemed overcook and were rather soft.

The facade was a little in tribute to the old days, so I guess you're mainly there for the environment. The cleaners are really quick at cleaning the tables and helping the next customer get settled in.

Buffet OK Nov 29, 2013
Categories : Asian Variety | Fusion | Multi-Cuisine | Hotel | Buffet | Kids-Friendly

Deal that was bought which included free-flow beer. The glasses were small but the waitresses kept on refilling the beers, which was good.

Their salmon was decent but the tuna was inedible. The chefs who were supposed to cut the sashimi were not all trained properly since some of the sashimi was hard to chew due to the sashimi being cut in the wrong direction.

The char siu was ok and the shao rou was cold

This was served hot and very spicy but it didn't come out till later in the night-- it was a redeeming factor though.

Some of their hot foods are pretty good like their lamb shank and their beef rendang sauce.
