The layout of the restaurant is sort of odd. Sometimes it's rather tough to get the attention of the waiter. The exhaust system doesn't seem to be very good as we exited the place smelling like bbq and korean food.

Banchans were a little odd tasting. I understand that Bornga is opened by a celebrity chef, but the cold potatos were odd and the kimchi didn't quite taste like authentic kimchi. It tasted rather sweet and metallic-- that's the closest way I describe it.

 
This tasted more like a hot and oily omelette, though it was larger size than I had expected.

 
Never seen this minced beef and bean stew before. They pretty much put it on a stove in front of you and it was bubbling for a while and spewing out of the pot. Apparently, the waiter assured us that they were keeping track of the time so it wouldn't be burnt or overcooked but we were worried for a bit.

Had a coupon for 50% off the buffet so came here for a weekday lunch buffet.

 
The sashimi selection felt limited (only salmon and tuna) and the cuts were rather thin and didn't feel very fresh. There were no oysters available at lunch.

The best part of the buffet selection was the crayfish though it ran out quickly. The cuisine is more centered on food that's local cuisine or peranakan. The ice kachang machine was broken too and there wasn't ice cream selections available. As a whole, the buffet felt mediocre at best.

At $1.50 per plate (before GST), it's cheap comparable to other Japanese restaurants. After GST and service charge, it's less than $2 per plate.

I took pictures of 3 dishes I'd be back for. These selections disappear off the sushi train rather quickly as they're quite rare and I suppose their costs are higher.

blueberry cheesecake that was sweet without being too creamy, nor too light. each bite was delightful.

miso soup needs to be ordered and there were surprisingly thick pieces of salmon inside which makes it very worth it and unlike normal miso soup. The tea is refillable at the individual station you're sitting at.

The weekday lunch set is super worth it as it's $32.80 nett for 2 pax.
It includes 1 appetizer, 1 dish, 1 lamian, 1 xiao long bao, and a drink each.
The appetizer, dish, and lamian is chosen from a list that's already pre-selected.

Deep fried diced chicken with fried chili was served hot but luckily it was a small portion cause it started to lose its flavor after a while.

Xiao long bao's skin may not be as thin as din tai fung but the soup is very present
Sliced pork roll with cucumber and garlic is a cold dish that definitely got our appetites rolling

Came up here to enjoy the view, but was reminded by the staff that males are not allowed to wear kicks and shoes past 1800. (t'was okay for females though)

We decided to order their cocktails since they seemed quite special and unique and settled on Lady Be Mine & Tony Stark's Pepper.

Lady Be Mine: Grey Goose vodka, lychee, rose water
Tony Stark's Pepper: peppercorn infused Grey Goose vodka, caramel syrup,
lemon juice, seared pineapple

Lady be Mine was classified as 'Fruity', while Tony Stark's Pepper was classified as 'Spiced'. Out of the two, I seem to prefer Tony Stark's Pepper over Lady be Mine. The vodka was quite strong in Lady be Mine and it was not very fruity. At first it seemed quite sweet, but a significant amount of the glass is pure vodka. Perhaps after the lady is done with the glass, the lady will truly be the lady of erm, her companions.

Tony Stark's Pepper was more unique and smelled very sweet and pleasant. It wasn't very spicy and it was just right. In fact, it would be a decent cocktail to choose for the wintry season too. Alas, that isn't available in Singapore. The caramel syrup masks the taste of the vodka so it isn't very apparent.
