Not worth it- not coming back Cry Dec 17, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Hawker Centre | Noodles

One of my worst experiences at ABC Bricksworks sad
I ordered the Fried Oyster Omelet for $4 and there were barely any oysters, but the worst part was that I waited at least 15 min there and all the 'cooks' were standing inside the whole time. Does it really take 15 min to make one plate of oyster omelet?

The worst part is after the plate arrived, the food was pretty much inedible cause there was barely any egg and it was all flour and starch. The oysters were rather fresh but there was only 3 pieces on the plate. What a ripoff.

I don't understand why other people were also ordering from this store and wondered if it's their first time as well.

Food that wasn't served hot Cry Nov 28, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Korean | Fast Food | Halal | Korean Fried Chicken

For fast food, $10 a head is quite expensive. It was a huge disappointment after the long wait and all those 'warnings' that the food would be served hot, that our food was cold.
We had gone to the food pick up station as soon as our # was called but it seems like they make the food by the batches or it could have been food that was returned to the kitchen due to the wrong order.
For the price, I really thought the food would arrive hot. The meat on the wings was a disappointing because there was barely any. Also, regardless of whether the fries were kimchi or seaweed, you could barely taste the difference or what kimchi or seaweed should really taste like. French fries felt sort of empty without much potato and substance inside.

The only redeeming factor was the salad was actually quite good and refreshing. The fried shrimp inside were cold and got soggy quickly though.

With this kind of food quality, I don't understand the unending queue at ION.

Spending per head: Approximately $10

Carrot cake Cry Nov 28, 2013
Categories : Bakery | Café

I'm a huge fan of carrot cake but this did not make it because...it's way too sweet.
I've had Seventh Heaven ice cream before but I never thought I'd be disappointed by their desserts. The carrot cake was overly sweet and I could barely eat anymore a couple spoons in.

The redeeming quality is that it took a while for the cake to come out because it was served warm. However, because it was warm the cream was sliding everywhere.

At least the carrot cake had legit strips of carrot inside.

Service staff wasn't very attentive in refilling water and was chatting behind the counter. Sitting in the cafe makes you pay service tax and gst

Beef Pho Cry Nov 26, 2013
Categories : Thai | Vietnamese | Food Court | Noodles

I'm a huge fan of Beef Pho, but I'm sad to say that the pho was rather disappointing.
I think I will try to break it down by what they did right and wrong.

What they did right: had the correct noodles, basil leaves, had the lemon
What was not right:
- The soup base while somewhat correct, felt like a vital ingredient was missing that did not allow the pho to hit the spot.
- Could have more veggies
- There was a lot of noodles
- The beef slices were not very thin and was quite chewy..I usually do not waste my meat, but I was unable to chow down on it. Made me question the freshness of the meat.

If I could, I feel like I would want my money & stomach space back...

Their Som Tum (Papaya salad) looked legit, but I tried a bit and it didn't taste right. The Phad Thai did look to be more authentic...(appearance-wise)
Perhaps offering Thai and Vietnamese cuisine in one stall is too ambitious for them and they should get one cuisine right first.

Trying out the new contenders Cry Nov 25, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Ramen

There are two new contenders at the Ramen Champion located in Bugis. Unfortunately, this is probably the most disappointing ramen experience I had in all my trips. This is probably because the new dishes don't seem to fit my flavor..

I should have had warning signs go off when I saw the logo, but it didn't hit home till I actually tried the ramen.. it tasted like noodles in chinese broth. I can't put a finger on it, but I feel like they had ginger or some other spice that is normally in chinese food.

Ramen with Lobster Sauce! Sounds amazing right? The bowl was approximately $15..and I felt that the additional price was not worth it. (There was also no onsen tamago included) It felt like ready-made lobster bisque added to my ramen which actually spoiled the flavor of the ramen. The soup was decent and noodles were thin and good, but the flavors did not complement one another.
Verdict: Ramen that tried too hard to be 'westernized'

The queue numbers

As a whole, 1 Ramen tried too hard to be 'westernized', the other pretty much sank into the chinese cuisine category, but using ramen noodles and the traditional hot spring egg.
