Zi Char food in air-con room Smile Apr 28, 2013

Categories : Coffeeshop | Seafood | Zi Char

Located inside a food court, this restaurant is just next to Sheng Siong Supermarket in Elias. If you want Zi Char food in an air-conditioning room, this will be the perfect place for you. This restaurant is always packed with people in weekends, so do make reservations or avoid peak hours (6.30-7.30pm). We arrived at arround 5pm yesterday and the restaurant was rather empty as it was still very early from dinner time.

This restaurant occupies half of the food court space.
sambal kangkong

Bits of hay bee(dried prawns) can be found in the chilli. This plate of kangkong cost S$6 for four of us, I would rate this as cheap.
coffee pork ribs

coffee pork ribs

We always order this whenever we visit this restaurant, the aroma of coffee and slight sweet taste made this a wonderful dish. The meat was tender and juicy, this was best eaten without dipping any sauce. This dish cost S$10. Expensive? Try buying S$10 of pork ribs from the market and see how much meat you will get.
hotplate tofu

I am not sure if this toufu is homemade because they taste better from what we usually buy from the supermarket or wet market. The toufu was cut into long strips and fried with few types of mushrooms and prawns over a base of pan fried egg. Although this dish didn't look appetizing from the picture, it tasted surprisingly good and went well with white rice. I had tried their home made toufu and it tasted good as well.
This dish cost S$10 .
yam ring

I would rather give this a miss. The reason being the filling of the yam ring had big chunks of chicken which I didn't like, the sauce was also not enough for the whole yam ring. This dish cost S$15.

Do give this restaurant a try, the service is good and fast.

Set lunch  OK Apr 26, 2013

Categories : Bars/Lounges

Went to Changi City Point for shoppping today, found this restaurant while exploring the surrounding area. I decided to have my lunch there because of the oyster promotion , $6 for half a dozen.

I ordered their set meal which cost $12.90, consisted of a starter( you can choose either soup or salad), a main( beef steak or grilled chicken), a drink and dessert. I also ordered half a dozen oysters.

The oysters arrived at my table first. There were crushed ice on the oysters to keep the freshness . To my surprise, the oysters were considered big at this price, really worth it.

The salad was fresh and crunchy, dressing was great.

However, I felt that the steak was hard, difficult to chew, I then realised the waitress did not ask the doneness of my steak earlier on, probably because the lunch set was cheap.

Two small square pieces of cakes were served as dessert. One of them is cheese cake and the other is mango mousse cake. I like the mango mousse cake more because it was so soft and just the correct sweetness for my tastebud.

My bill added up to about S$22. Reasonable price I would say.

I rated their service 2 stars because one of the waitresses did not bring my salad to my front, she just placed on the corner of the table and walked away.

They had a citybank card promotion for dinner.

Boneless chicken rice Smile Apr 26, 2013

Categories : Singaporean | Chinese | Coffeeshop | Chicken Rice

Bought a whole chicken and four packets of chicken rice(S$24) for dinner tonight. The old aunty was very kind, she gave me an extra packet of rice free because she said the whole plastic bag was unbalance with all the chilli sauce on one side. This is called Ren Qing Wei (人情味) which I cannot find in other place, felt so warm in my heart......

If you eat in, they also have free flow soup, self service.

Their chicken was soft and tender, boneless. The chicken rice was fragrant and grainy.

Not worth eating at this place OK Apr 26, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Korean | Buffet | Korean BBQ

I find the price of about S$31 per person eating at this restaurant is not worthwhile. Each person could only order one main and the selection of mains was limited. There were about four types of mains, cold noodles, bibimbab, kimchi noodle etc. The portion of the main was really small, meagre I would say.
We had to order the mains through the waiter, whereas the bbq items, sides like kimchi and pickles were in buffet style.
Drinks were not included in the price whereas cold water was free flow.
Service was slow, we had to tell the waiter a few times before drinks were refilled and hot plate changed.
Will not visit this restaurant again.

We arrived there on saturday evening rather early for the dinner at 5.30pm and there were already a long queue all waiting to go inside for a big feast. Fortunately, we had made a reservation and was given priority to go in first and get to sit in air-con room. Walk-in custiomers had to sit al fresco as the restaurant was full on that day.

Special dishes were served on weekend only, for example, whole salmon fish and cold crab claws. The salmon fish is moist and fresh and went well with tartar sauce. The crab claws did not disappoint me because they were sweeter compared to some that i ate at hotel, the claws would be perfect if they were not so salty.

This restaurant serves Ben & Jerry Ice-cream and they were as usual, so sedap!

I prefer this resturant to the one at downtown east because I find the hygienic level higher.
