soft shell prawns are da bomb! Smile May 19, 2013

Taka is a food/snack haven for everyone. I never get sick of wandering through the food stalls in the Basement floor. This is one new discovery that hardly anyone has raved about, I wonder why.

Head over to the Snax store and you'll see their signature soft shell prawns. Now, I've never heard of these apart from soft shell crabs, so it was really interesting to know. And I'm not a huge fan of seafood but these prawns are so delicious! They offer up 5 different sauces to choose from, I often eat them just as it is.

The prawns are bite-sized and really crispy. Great to-go snack without the dip! Plus, its never a bad thing to eat shells because they are a good source of calcium too!

An affordable and yummy local snack! A must-try!

BEST CHOCOCRO IN TOWN!  Smile May 19, 2013

Whenever you're in Vivocity, never give up the chance to get a couple of chococros for families or friends! These amazing chocolate croissants live up to their Japanese dessert reputation.

The cafe seems to be perpetually crowded all the time, and i haven't got the chance to taste their coffees or desserts, but I never fail to buy their chococro. They have two flavors, the original one and the special one which has red bean & mochi with chocolate, wrapped in a delightfully crisp croissant crust. Each bite is heavenly!

I can polish off three on my own, but I always eat them on the spot. If you're buying these back home, follow the instructions on the box to reheat them for an extra-crispy experience! I love it that their chocolate isn't too sweet as well!

Love love love Japanese desserts!

This is the place to go for your nasi lemak cravings for people in the North/Central. Why bother traveling all the way for Punggol nasi lemak with an hour long waiting time just to get the same standard?
Or perhaps I'm just not one of those people who would queue because the long wait just puts me off.

They are generous in their servings, and a set consisting of rice and 3 other ingredients cost about $5, which is way cheaper than the $10 a plate at Punggol Nasi Lemak. Today, I ordered their chicken wings, sambal lady fingers and sambal prawns. The chicken wings were fried to the right crispiness, and the meat was tender too. The prawns were a good complement with the chicken but the lady fingers were ordinary. I would have preferred it to be more spicy.

Always ask for an extra dollop of sambal chilli, because that should be drenching your rice and chicken wings for the ultimate nasi lemak experience!
Most people come to this outlet for takeaways, but if you're in no hurry, there are always seats available.

If you love your burgers big, you'll love chilis. This is by far my favourite American franchise in Singapore. Okay, this and Tony Romas.

See, no other restaurants serve their burgers this big, and I love em big! The more fillings, the more meat, the better! This is definitely a burger that burger lovers will love!

My standard order is the Southern Smokehouse Bacon burger, because who can resist bacon & onion rings in their burgers?! And they hardly do this anywhere else. Apart from their fantastic burger, they load the whole basket full of fries. I often skip lunch when I know there is a dinner at Chili's, because how else are you supposed to finish this giant of a burger with that bed of fries!

If you're going with a big group, order their bottomless tostidos with salsa, its thin and crispy, just the way I like it. Plus, the salsa is refillable too.

And only for those with a huge appetite, definitely do not miss out on their molten chocolate cake. It is a fantastic cherry on top of a perfectly good meal! Don't attempt to finish it on your own though, the chocolate is really rich, and two spoons will make you quite sick. Desserts are always meant to be shared. smile

My favourite outlet is the one in RWS, only because there are stores still opened after dinner for you to wander around. The shops around Tanglin were closed once we were done with dinner, so we had no choice but to wander off to the more crowded area of town. sad Definitely opt for the one in RWS!

There are just some afternoons when the weekend has gone by too quickly, and I just want to get away from the buzz and people. This is where I shut myself off from the world and enjoy some me time.

Of all the canele outlets, this is by far my favourite, because it is out of the way. Its not impossible to get here, but most people would opt for the more convenient outlets, which is why the crowd isn't that crazy here. I can at least hear the music & enjoy my book without getting distracted by unintentional evesdropping of the table beside me.

This time, I decided to give their tiramisu a go. The spongey bits soaked up the flavourful coffee syrup, and it was a perfect balance between being too soggy vs. being too dry. If you simply must get fabulously good cake, go to canele. smile

The other thing I love so much about canele is their macarons. I never fail to buy some home for the family, and their vibrant colours are too tempting to leave without getting any.
