Did not expect to taste jap food in a chinese restaurant.
I ordered the Black Pepper Udon to share with wifey.
It is spicy and the sauce goes pretty well with the udon. However the chicken taste normal as they are cooked before being mixed with the pepper sauce. I like the huge slices of onion.

We also had the Gui Ling Gao and Aloevera dessert.
The Gui Ling Gao is smooth and not so sweet. Not really a fan as I prefer sweet desserts.

The Aloevera is light and nourishing. You can feel and taste the little Aloevera going down your throat. I like the sweet wolfberries. lol

Dim Sum Smile Nov 14, 2010

Could get up early for dim sum?
Have not fear, Mayim is here.
Do you know Mayim actually serves Cantonese Dim Sum til 5pm everyday.
Who says dim sum is only for breakfast?

Since wifey has been insisting I owe her Lor Mai Kai and Siew Mai (both her fave) for the past 2 weeks, I decided to repay my debts by bringing her to Mayim.
We ordered Siew Mai(of coz) ($2.20), ShangHai Xiao Long Bao($2.20) and my fave Steamed BBQ Chicken Bun($2.20). A pity they do not serve Lor Mai Kai.

The Siew Mai is fresh delicious. First bite and you will be able to taste the solid pork filling. The second bite you will feel satisified and happy. Wifey had many second bites to satisify her needs.

The Xiao Long Bao is nice in general and comparable to the one in Crystal Jade. But the skin is softer and tends to break while we try to scope them out of the basket.

My fave Chicken Bun. Fresh, hot and juicy. I hate those which is hard and dry inside. The buns here are juicy and big. You can taste the tender char siew too.

I will definitey come back again to satisfy wifey needs.

So-so Muffins OK Oct 24, 2010

Bought their Walnut Muffins for breakfast.
Looks nice and tasty but it tastes only average.

Other than the crunchy walnut, the muffins has no fillings and taste buttery. However, it still tastes fresh even after storing under normal temp overnight.

I have tasted better muffins elsewhere.

Nice but expensive side dishes OK Oct 24, 2010

Wifey wanted porridge for supper so we ended up there.
We order one huge bowl of porridge plus stir-fried lotus and onion flower with toufu.

The stir-fried lotus is crispy and tasty. Not overly-cooked with tons of oil and is taste refreshing.

The onion flower is fresh and you can taste the juice within. Crunchy and juicy. But the toufu is a little too hard due to it being left there since afternoon.

Overall, the meal is better than I have expected. Lots of China students were also there to taste their local food.

Quality and service has dropped Cry Oct 24, 2010

Categories : Café

I used to like Wang Cafe more than Ya Kun because I think Ya Kun is highly over-rated.
Wang Cafe used to have good waiters and their toast are bigger and taste nicer.

Going today after 3 months has changed my view.
First, the waiter taking the order is new and takes long to confirm my order.
Next, due to severe lack of staff, there are hardly any clean tables.
When the lady finally comes to clear the table for us, she took away my order number tag and even spilled the leftover tea on my knees! All she said was "Sorry" and return with some tissue! huffy
This is absolutely ridiculous!
My mood for afternoon tea was totally spolit by then.
We actually have to wait for 15 mins for our kaya-butter toast. And that is not after I have to asked why is the toast so long? And why my order number tag was taken away from me even before my food came.
The waiter actually came with the toast then(not sure if its for someone else), not feeling sorry at all and argued that they know I still have outstanding order.
Hellow?? Then what is the number tag for?? Would it have came without me asking, I cannot bet on that.
That totally pisses me off!
The tea + toast set is obly $2 but the tea is only normal and the toast seems to be on a diet. Thin slices of bread being toasted black.
Never again am I going to subject myself as a customer to such lousy service and food.
Ever.
