Less is More at Brewerkz Smile May 21, 2012

We got to Brewerkz an hour before its closing time on a Saturday night. Perhaps due to this fact, the place was not as happening as I had hoped from an American-themed sports bar.

Nevertheless, my friend and I enjoyed a speedy service, a friendly, if not overzealously-professional waiter. We ordered two hoppy beer pints, nothing fancy. Afterwards, it took us a while to browse through an extensive menu of delicious-sounding dishes. The waiter was very patient with us and did not rush us once, even though the time to close down the placed was getting close.

We finally settled on the California Club sandwich (S$24) - a light but filling choice - and a Ceasar Salad with chicken (S$16). Everything, including the veggies on the sandwich and in the Ceasar salad tasted fresh, despite the late hour and our meal turned out to be without any frills but simple and fulfilling.

Good Food, Bad Service Smile May 21, 2012

I visited the Dining Room at Tanjong Beach Club with a friend of mine a couple of weeks ago and sat outside to enjoy the view of the pool and the beautiful people.

Our experience started off relatively well - he ordered Half Spring Chichen (S$26) with jerk seasoning, cooked superbly but with a sauce that was a little bland. I ordered a Tanjong Burger with a side of fries (S$25) and a Tanjong Salad (S$19). The fact that both dishes bore the name Tanjong seemed to have a certain significance since both came out superbly.

The staff, however, was a bit slow in their delivery of the food to our table and in bringing us our final bill. They misplaced our change and were reluctant to apologize, when their error was brought up to the manager's attention.

All in all, the food is worth the hit-or-miss service, but come prepared for a very long lunch or dinner!
