not so fantastic  Cry Jun 21, 2012

- The Shop
The bakery is separated from the dine-in restaurant and sell artisanal loaves which it's famous for their Flute Paul (French baguette made from dough that is fermented slowly), chocolate bread and croissant. They also have other savoury pastries, sandwiches and cakes.

The 120 seater restaurant is all stylish French inspired decor with chandeliers and plush sofa chairs. They serve an all day dining menu, serving simple French café food such as sandwiches, soups, salad, quiches, and crepes. If you are lucky, you may get a table by the big windows overlooking Orchard Road.

- The Food
Special Iced Tea of The Moment - Raspberry @ $5.80

Nothing extraordinary.

Salmon Sauce Vierge @ $23.90
Pan fried salmon fillet with olive sauce served with rice and Provencal vegetables (tomatoes, red and green peppers, onions cooked with spices and herbs).

Connie felt the salmon is not flavorsome and overcooked. Even after adding a few dashes of salt it still didn't bring out the flavor. The sauteed vegetables was ok.

Paillasson Champignon @ $19.90
Sauteed mushrooms with gralic, shallots and parsley.

Their traditional potato pancake is baked to perfection and has a nice crisp. The garniture is delicious and savory. This is the best and perfect dish, lucky Shareen.

Crepe Champignons $16.90

Sauteed mushrooms with gralic, shallots and parsley.
The delicate thin pancakes in a French version can be softer and tastier. The sauteed mushroom is bland, stingy on the salad dressing for the salad and Provencal tomatoes. I am a mushroom lover and i am disappointed.

Tartine Poulet Marine $17.90

Chicken marinated in lemon and tarragon, fresh tomatoes and cream. (served warm)
A delicious slice of freshly baked country bread but it's too hard that Shela had to use her hand to eat as the knife just couldn't cut it. The marinated chicken taste good but PAUL, Dubai is better. It's also served with a seasonal side salad.

- My Opinion
This French bakery-restaurant may have a big sitting capacity but its too cramp. Tables were so closed that only ONE person can bypass at a time. The crews seem to be a little confuse and everyone is rushing here and there.

Be prepared to queue if you are dining in during lunch/dinner without a reservation. We waited for almost 10-15min before we were given a seat even we are first in queue. All the staff were too busy serving and taking order that no one has the time to bring us in.

for the sweet tooth OK Jul 15, 2015

Categories : Western Variety | Bakery | Café | Desserts and Cakes

A very small place, nice staff with decent coffee.

The spiced carrot cake (S$5.90) was too creamy and sweet for my liking.

Hummingbird cake (S$5.90) is one of the hot seller, it's moist and unique flavour of bananas, pineapples, coconut and a perfume of cloying sweetness. Sweet tooth lover, you'll him with delight in every bite!

The red velvet cheesecake was sold out so we op for the cupcake (S$3.80). The crimson-hued treat is dense and not-too-sweet.

Strawberry tofu cheesecake (S$5.90) adorned with fresh strawberries encased in jelly was the perfect choice for me. Not too sweet, lighter texture and luscious.

My Awesome Cafe

My Awesome Cafe

A new hipster cafe settling within a pre-war conservation shophouse that used to house Telok Ayer Chung Hwa Free Clinic was open in February 2014.

The industrial theme cafe has high ceiling structure with cement walls and floor, big bulbs and metallic fans each generate soft wind that renders an ambient of sitting in an open air environment.

Pineapple Crunch @ $8.00

Fresh pineapple blends with crunch ice. Refreshing, rich and soft, what is missing is the sweet scent (maybe due to the season).

Latte @ $4.50

Blend of beans from Colombia, Brazil and Sumatra.

Spicy Beef Sandwich @ $14.00

The spices mixed in the beef are bought from Thailand. It’s tangy and leaving a light note of spice tickling your palate. Salad dressing is a homemade recipe from Franck’s grandma. The bread was a little firmer and less soft than I would have liked. Maybe we had spend too much on picture taking =(

My Awesome Salad @ $15.00

Terrine of tiny shreds of tender, succulent duck melded together, with generous mesclun, salty smoked salmon and herbs chicken breast (that is dry). Loves the freshly ground basil pesto on the bread, then again, the bread was a little firmer and less soft than I would have liked. Finding it difficult to chew, perhaps we had spend too much time picture taking (again).

Quiche ¼ + Salad @ $9.50

The savoury crust was lightly buttery, crisp and moist, with a filling of shredded carrot and creamy egg custard. It will be irresistible if there is some oozing cheese to go along.

Upside Down Mango Cake @ $5.00

Homemade dessert served on vintage amber glassware. Very moist and soft but too sweet for my liking.Brownie @ $5.00

Not the fudgey brownie, more to a cakey texture. Dry cracked crust, slightly moist with a deep chocolate flavor. These rich and chocolaty are homemade too!

This March, the award-winning buffet and ala carte resturant, Azur located at Crowne Plaza Changi Airport offers diners an all-you-can-eat Black Angus dinner experience with premium beef imported from the United States, cooked to perfection in a variety of styles.

The dinner feast will also include the finest seafood and a multitude of desserts.

Alaskan Snow Crab Leg

Diners can also dig into fresh seafood on ice with the popular Alaskan Snow Crab Leg making a much welcome re-appearance at the seafood bar along with Poached Tiger Prawns, Dutch Black Mussels, Half Shell Scallops and Freshly Shucked House Oysters.

Sesame Black Angus Beef Salad with Red Radish

Sesame Black Angus Beef Salad with Red Radish

Loves the thinly sliced medium-rare sirloin, which make it really tender and juicy. The fats are trimmed off after the sirloin is pan seared to avoid over oiliness. Dulcified with aromatic sesame sauce, crunchy red radish, lotus root and edamame. The combination lends a delightful twist and seemingly divinely intervened!

Wok Fried Black Angus Short Ribs with Black Pepper

Sliced Black Angus Short Rib is succulent and tender. However it will be perfect if the Azur's homemade black pepper sauce could be more peppery and robust flavour.

Grilled Black Angus Beef Steak with Forest Mushroom Ragout

Rich and evocative of the forest, the mushrooms (portobello, champignon and trumpet mushrooms) will work their magic in everything from a creamy ragout to a earthy broth. Perfect for mushroom lovers.

Braised Beef Cheek with Root Vegetables

Decadent, fork-tender beef cheek are a crowd favourite. It fills the house with mouthwatering aromatic root vegetables consisting of baby carrot, turnip, parsnip and celeriac. The beef exits the full-flavored, you will be rewarded with super tender and moist dish.

Full Reviews & Photos @ http://www.celestialdelish.com/2013/05/shatec-4-course-dinner-anniversary-menu.html

RECIPES, a full-fledged restaurant managed and operated by SHATEC, will be serving a Four-Course Set Dinner Anniversary Menu on June 7th & 14th (Fridays) @ $42++ with dishes created by famous SHATEC alumni.

- Appetizer: Slow-Cooked Pork Belly with Apple Salsa

I was intrigued by the sweet-tart apple salsa and adorn the beautiful succulent moist tender fat meat. However the rice cracker was pretty stale. Maybe it was prepared much earlier before dinner.

- Soup: Mushroom Coffee with Cinnamon Roll with Prawn Paste

I was blow by the aromatic aroma, creamy, velvety, rich and heady mushroom soup. I felt the coffee taste was gently pleasant and desirable for a non-coffee drinker like me.

- Main Course: Souse Vide Chicken Breast in Smoked Oil, Fig Glazed Foie Gras, Caramelised Endive, Manchego Espuma, Thyme Jus

Souse Vide, the latest gastronomic craze, "under vacuum" - a method of cooking in vacuum sealed plastic pouches in a water bath for longer than normal cooking times - 72 hours in some cases. The breast chicken is incredibly moist and tender, making it so moreish. The foie gras was cooked perfectly with a lovely crunchy char on the outside and will be even better it was slightly sweeter.

- Dessert: Fondant Au Chocolat

The foundant au chocolat was rich and dry. Crusty on the outside, with thick melty chocolate in the center. Thought not as decadent as I expected, but still a lovely combination with their homemade vanilla ice cream and pistachio.

Set Dinner is served with a complimentary glass of wine and coffee or tea.
