Dinner at Symmetry Smile Nov 23, 2014

Categories : Australian / New Zealand | Bars/Lounges | Brunch

Went cafe hopping with friends on a cloudy saturday. We thought summetry served all day breakfast and went there in the evening. When we got seated and looked at the menu we were surprise that they serve brunch until 3. Should have done more homework before going.

So we ordered their calamari with squid ink sauce, salmon with risotto and pork belly.  The pork belly was tender and the proportion of fats and meat was good. The calamari was a little too oily for my taste. The risotto was not the creamy kind and tasted nice. We really enjoyed the food but the price is a little steep.

The service was good and the place was full house so reservation is needed. I would go back and try their brunch next time.

Sunday Brunch at Sunday Market Smile Nov 23, 2014

Sunday Market is located in between Serangoon and Kovan MRT station. It is a 15 mins walk from both station and can be a little inaccessible as compared to a lot of other cafes.

The beef rendang with toast have a good blend of flavours. The duck pancakes was really special and tasted nice but the only down side was that they didn't give enough sauce to go with it. The eggs ben and big breakfast they have was very normal though. They also serve waffles with ice cream which was ok.

Overall the service was good and I would definately go back there to try their fried chicken waffles.

I passed by Sophie Bakery the other day and heard from my friend recommend them. I bought an éclair instead of their fame fruit tart. I didn't really like the éclair as I didn't really like the texture and flavour of the cream. The service was slightly slow.

I would try their fruit tart or bread next time.

Spending per head: Approximately $4(Tea)

XLB at Din Tai Fung Smile Jan 02, 2014

Din Tai Fung is famous for its Xiao long bao. But furthermore, it is constantly coming out with different or new flavours. Out of all their dishes, other than the original XLB I really like their yam paste XLB. The yam paste inside isn't too sweet, very smooth and the skin is not too thick which complements nicely. The first photo is dumpling in a spicy oil based sauce, the spiciness is just nice and goes well with the dumplings

Colourful XLB Smile Dec 31, 2013

Went to try the famous colourful Xiao long bao of paradise dynasty with my friends the other day. The 8 flavours are original, crab roe, garlic, cheese, truffle, ginger, foie gra, si chuan spicy. All had good flavouring and the soup inside the XLB was really delicious. I also try the dessert gui hua niang wa zi. I didn't really like it as it felt like a porridge than a dessert as it was made up of rice and the glutinous riceballs in a wine base soup.
