Before heading to my spa, I decided to drop by Hediard for breakfast. I opted for the Creamy Scrambled Eggs with Bacon @ S$15. It was served with 2 slices of Hediard country style toasted bread. I love the eggs, which was rich & real creamy.

Then I’d an order of Classic Chocolate @ S$7. I like how my Choc was being served, with some coffee marbles & a piece of Madeline.

Taste was superb & I like the Madeline so much that I decided to take away @ S$1.80/piece.

Decent Lunch At DOMVS Smile Aug 29, 2011
Categories : Italian | Pasta

I've been to DOMVS ("Home" in Latin) couple of times but always for dinner. This is the 1st time I was there for lunch. The Italian Restaurant @ Sheraton Towers had refurbished its interior about 2 years ago, reopening with a modern touch.

The Set-lunch Menu: S$29 for 2-course & S$36 for 3-course, is surprisingly reasonable with a generous selection of menu.

Out of 5 starters to choose, I opted for the Beef Carparccio. This is something I just couldn't resist & it's really good.

Normally for set-lunches, it's common to see just 3 choices for the main. Here, I've got 8 to choose from. I got myself a Risotto, which surprised my good friend. It was out of the norm for me. Risotto somehow reminds me of the Chinese "Mui Fan", basically gravy over cooked rice. But the word SCALLOP caught my attention. Boy, it was ambrosial! The plate of Risotto came with 2 huge scallops, bite-size chunks of scallops & bites of asparagus. The flavourful rice enveloped my taste buds & it's still lingering in my mouth as I'm writing this post. It's a Must-try!

I ended my la dolce vita with Chef's Special of the Day. The Chocolate Pudding paired with a Nougat Parfait was another indulgence.

Oishii Teppanyaki at Keyaki Smile Aug 29, 2011

Waiting area

Waiting area

]The new Keyaki boasts a beautiful guest-holding area welcoming guests, waiting to be seated. While the culinary retreat was imbue with the tranquil ambience at the Level 4 of Pan Pacific Hotel, in the hush of classic layout set in a strong Japanese accent, it features the art of Japanese gourmet cooking.

I’d opted for the Tsuki (Moon) set @ S$170/person. The course began with a serving of interesting appetizers & a clear soup; each emitting a unique taste, making me hunger for more.

Next is a dish not many can resist. Freshly flown from Japan was an array of Sashimi, each testing your taste buds.

Now this is my favourite part of Teppanyaki, seeing the Chef perform in front of you. The set came with a King Prawn, nicely grilled & cut before my eyes. The succulent prawn was fresh & inviting, with no sauce needed at all.

Then cames the highlight of the S$170 course – Wagyu Sirloin Steak. My eyes were glued to the teppanyaki grill as the Chef cleverly displayed his cooking technique. Just looking at the marble on the beef, I was sure it was gonna melt in my mouth.

Nothing can satisfy the the carnivorous urge for steak like a deliciously tender cut, served with a hearty portion of fried garlic. What I love most: salty crispy pieces of fats that the Chef had skilfully sliced off from the beef & grilled till crisp. I could die for a dish like this; every slice of beef just "dissolved" in my mouth. Definitely a cut above the rest.

Next on the grill were rice & eggs. Tada! Here’s a bowl of fragrant Garlic Fried Rice. Dracula will definitely stay away from me after this smile

I like this combi of bean sprouts, zucchini & eggplant. It blended well with the fried rice.
Lastly, something I couldn’t go without – Macha Ice-cream!

It’s traditional Japanese fine dining with top-notch food @ Keyaki. This meal is totally worth it, as long as you’re willing to splurge.

Ku De Ta, Skypark Dining  OK Aug 29, 2011

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Bars/Lounges | Restaurant | Seafood

As the weather was pretty hot, my friend & I opted for indoor dining with a reservation for the earlier slot. A friendly waiter soon approached us & asked if it was our 1st visit. He then told us that they’re serving Modern Asian Cuisine & that their food is on a sharing basis. That explained why the 14-course Tasting Menu is only @ S$148++/pax.

Our 1st round of dishes were served soon. The Smoked Eggplant, Baby Squid & ‘Bo ssam’ Pork Belly Salad came at one go.

My friend enjoyed the Eggplant, which was topped with Salmon Caviar & marinated with black vinegar. I found it rather bland actually. The Crispy Squid was sweet & drizzled with lime. I went head over heels with the Pork Belly Salad. The taste was amazingly unique & it was delicious. The spicy salad is a mixture of their house-made pickles, cucumber vinaigrette & pork.

Next was a platter of Sashimi which consisted of Scottish Salmon, seared Black Angus Beef Tataki & sliced semi-fatty Tuna Belly. Love how the Chef cleverly infused herbs & spices like green tea salt, szechuan pepper, miso, vanilla bean oil etc into this course.

We didn’t quite appreciate the Bamboo-roasted Pacific Black Cod. The fish was whipped in red miso, but we found it quite fishy. We didn’t finish the dish.

The next dish was supposed to be my all-time favourite. Unfortunately, the pan-roasted Foie Gras was only big in portion & didn’t turn out the way I’d envisaged.

The char-grilled Australian Black Angus Beef Tenderloin was just alright. Nothing to shout about.

Crispy Skin Bamboo-steamed Duck came jointly with Asparagus/Tofu. The name of the dish is misleading as the skin wasn’t crispy at all. It was a total let-down.

We ended our tasting menu with their desserts, which were just so-so.

Although the food was nothing fantastic, I’ve to give credit to the servers who were dedicated in their service & were chatty & friendly.

Would I go there again? I probably won’t spend S$148++ for dinner there, but the view & cocktail are definitely worth the visit.

Sky Dining Smile Aug 27, 2011

Adding to the new list of restaurants sprouting out here is il Cielo, an Italian joint @ Hilton S’pore.

If you’re looking to savour authentic Italian cuisine prepared with the finest ingredients overlooking a rooftop pool, this is the place to go.

Quickies for a start: a basket of home-made bread. An assortment of accompaniments came with it: Pesto, Olive oil with a drop of Balsamic Vinegar & Tomato paste.

Their 3-course set lunch is pretty reasonable @ S$35++. My friend took the set lunch but I found the Ala Carte more interesting.

It was a gorgeous start. I ordered the Capesante (S$22), which is a trio of Scallops. The fresh & succulent Scallops were presented with Foie Gras & topped with Truffle in wine reduction; wrapped in Pancetta with Parsley foam; Saffron sauce & topped with Caviar. It was a harmonious appetizer for the senses!

I’d the Tagliatella (S$28) for the main. The ink-squid pasta was tossed with crab meat, lobster, asparagus & tomatoes. I thought the combination was perfect, but I’d prefer more sauce as it was a little dry. The seafood was lovely.

il Cielo has a fantastic variety of interesting Pizzas with ingredients like Lobster, Caviar etc. Too bad I was pressed for time. Would definitely love to try their Pizzas the next time I return.
