Vietnamese Cafe OK Apr 25, 2012
Categories : Vietnamese | Restaurant

This is the lastest Vietnamese Cafe that opened in Siglap. Took over the location of former Cambodian Restaurant.

It served Vietnameses street food like Pho, Pork Chop rice and Banh Mi Thit (sandwich).
The 1st time I bought grilled pork rice as takeaway. The belly pork was well marinated and grilled with a slight burnt. I would prefer if they used pork chop or lean meat as I find belly pork too fattening. At $9.50 I find it too expensive to have it everyday.

On the weekend, I took the family to try the other dishes as we are a fan of Vietnameses food.
Cha Gio $6 and Goi Cuon $5

The spring roll and summer roll was good starter.
Pho Tai $9

We order 3 different pho to try. The clear soup of the chicken Pho was very tasty and comes with extra thin rice noodles. I did not like the accompanied bean sprouts which at other place you get some basil or mint. I did not expect to get different types of herb like in Vietnam but at least one type of green herbs.
Pho Ga $8.50

Pho Ga $8.50

Pho Tom $9

The Banh Mi Thit which is Pork Baguette needs improvement as the taste of the pork, Vietnamese Ham and pickle was too bland when eaten together with the French loaf. The filling need more seasonings or need extra filling to make it a tasty Sandwich.
Banh Mi Thit $5

The Cafe Sua Nong (Vietnamese Drip Coffee) needs a bigger coffee filter or a smaller glass. When the hot water finished passing through the filter it only filled half a glass. Even though they gave me another glass of ice for my cold version. The coffee still does not fill the glass up. At $4.50 for 1/2 cup of coffee it is expensive. Alternative they should have a smaller pot of hot water so that we can drip a second time so that we get a full cup of coffee.
Cafe Sua Nong $4.50

To round the meal, we order Banana Fritter which comes with Vanilla Ice Cream. The banana was fried when we order, and the Ice Cream goes well with it. I do not find this dessert unique to Vietnamese.
Banana Fritter with Ice Cream $6

Overall the place has some good dishes, with the rest need improvement. Prices lean towards cafe pricing.
If it was cheaper, I would be able to go more often for lunch or dinner.

The set lunches comes with a soup, main course and a drink. We ordered the breaded chicken chop and dory fish as our main course. You may choose soft drink or hot tea or coffee as your choice of drink.
Creamy Vegetables Soup

Creamy Vegetables Soup

The Creamy Vegetable Soup is served in a nice artistic bowl and is smooth.
Chicken Cutlet

Chicken Cutlet

The breaded chicken is dry on it own and is best eaten with the accompanied brown sauce. It also comes with baked potato and mixed vegetables.
Dory Fish

Dory Fish

The dory fish is served with potato wedges and same type of vegetables. The dory is lightly battered and taste quite not bad. I prefer it with some chilli sauce.
For that price, the food taste is decent and value for money.

Lemon Meringue Tart OK Apr 19, 2012

I heard so much about this shop. I finally got a chance to try while shopping at Taka. We managed to buy chocolate eclair, lemon meringue tart, croissant as takeaway.

Lemon Meringue Tart and Eclair

The chocolate eclair was not too sweet and has a nice choux pastry. I like the huge lemon meringue tart which has a tangy lemon curd as filling and topped with soft peak of sweet meringue. The combination is just right when you bite them together, as the sourness of the lemon curd is balance with the sweet meringue.

Categories : Food Court

At $4 you get 2 fresh spring rolls which is called popiah in local term. You can have this for a light lunch or tea.

The spring rolls are filled with lettuce, sweet sauce, sprinkle of chopped peanuts, egg, cooked strips of yam beans. The whole thing is all rolled up into a parcel and sliced into 4 slices.

At this stalls, the Popiah skin is not wet and taste is ok but I do not think it is the best that I have eaten.

Satay Beehoon OK Apr 19, 2012

Categories : Malay | Peranakan / Nonya | Singaporean Chinese

At this Food court, the stalls are hand picked from famous stalls around Singapore. This Satay Bee Hoon stall comes from the old Airport hawker center.
Satay Beehoon

Satay Beehoon

For $5 a plate, you get blanch bee hoon topped with fresh cockles, fish ball, squids, kang kong topped with a peanut sauce. If tourist or those with delicate stomach I suggest you request without fresh cockles. The peanut sauce taste like those you get with your satay but a more a dilute version. The sauce taste goes well with the noodles and seafood.
