Chicken Salad with Lime Sherbet OK Mar 16, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Ice Cream and Gelato | Pasta | Steaks and Grills | Halal

We ended up at Swensens as the original shop Tingkat we wanted to try closed down for basement renovation.
Chicken Salad with Lime Sherbet $11.70

Chicken Salad with Lime Sherbet $11.70

Sis decided to order this unsual salad combination; Chicken Salad with Lime Sherbet. Surprising it was very refreshing with thick slices of chicken and different type of vegetables. The icy cold lime sherbet goes well with the different textures, I highly recommend this dish for people who like salad. The portion is big enough for 1 person healthy light meal or shared with a group of 4 peope if you order other dishes.
Crayfish Pasta $16.20

Crayfish Pasta $16.20

Crayfish Pasta comes in 2 halfs of a crayfish lightly coated with batter and deep fried which is sits on top of a mountain of noodles. This is served in a tomato gravy with pieces of crab sticks. This dish is ok but nothing fantastic.
Hawaiian Pizza $16.20

Hawaiian Pizza $16.20

The Hawaiian Pizza has the usual pineapple & chicken ham with sprinkle of sliced green pepper & mushrooms. I like this crispy thin crust version which is divided into 4 portions.
Mango & Oreo Cookie Frozen Yogurt $4.90

Mango & Oreo Cookie Frozen Yogurt $4.90

Sis picked the frozen yogurt as her healthy dessert to end the meal. She had the Oreo and Mango as her 2 mixed in. Since she ordered the salad she got $1 off on the yogurt. The flavour combination is nice with the tangy taste and bits of Oreo. Texture is like soft ice cream.
$5 Top-Up Deal

$5 Top-Up Deal

The rest of the family had ice cream which is part of the $5 top up for any order of main course. You get soup, drink & ice cream. You can choose any flavour of ice cream from the meu. The ice cream is not creamy or smooth like the other premium brand.

Recommended Dish(es):  Chicken Salad with Lime Sherbet,Hawaiian Pizza,$5 top-up

Taiwanese Taste OK Mar 09, 2012

Categories : Taiwanese | Noodles

We were looking for a place for dinner after our movie. We found that we had not tried
this place and the family decided to try this Taiwanese place.
Stir-Fried Egg Plants with Meat Sauce

Stir-Fried Egg Plants with Meat Sauce

The Stir-Fried Egg Plant with Meat Sauce taste very different from other Chineses Restaurant. It has generous meat sauce cooked in bean paste which you can eat with rice.
Grilled Fish Roe

Grilled Fish Roe

The dish of Grilled Fish Roe was very artistic arranged. It looks like a tree sitting on top of a hill. The taste of grilled fish roe with sliced leek and raddish take getting used to. I did not like the combination as it taste bitter to me. It would have been better if it were served with some sauce or gravy.
"San Bei" Chicken with Basil

"San Bei" Chicken with Basil

The San Bei Chicken with Basil was served pipping out in a metal claypot. Chicken was well marinated but it comes with little gravy.
Deep Fried Prawn with Egg Yolk.

Deep Fried Prawn with Egg Yolk.

The Deep Fried Prawn with Egg Yolk is actually prawn wrapped around salted egg yolk and coated with bread crumbs. I like this dish best among the dishes we ordered.

Overall the food is not bad but familiar name dishes did not taste familar as the style of cooking is different from other Restaurant. I thought Taiwanese food is make up of Hokkien and Hakka but the dishes we ordered did not resembled it.

Recommended Dish(es):  Dep Fried Prawn with Egg Yolk

Breakfast Set OK Mar 09, 2012
Categories : Singaporean | Coffeeshop

The Breakfast set is Mee Rebus with Barley @ $4.50 or you can option for Nasi Lemak, Curry Chicken, Laksa or Mee Siam with Barley @$5.50. There is also the usual Kaya Toast set.
Laksa

Laksa

I ordered the laksa and opt for yellow noodles. It comes with pieces of prawn, fish cake and beancurd puff. That day the gravy has the shrimp paste (Belachan) taste but salt was missing. I had to add soya sauce to enhance the taste.
Mee Rebus

Mee Rebus

The Mee Rebus comes with 1 hard boiled egg, pieces of fried bean curds, fried shallots and green chillie. I found the thick gravy a bit too sweet for my taste.

The barley drink that comes with the set, can be hot or cold. The breakfast set is value for money as it cost about $1 more than what you would pay in a hawker center setting.

The good thing about this branch is that it open as early as 7.30am and close as late as 3am on Fri, Sat and eve of Public Holiday. Other time it closes at 1am. If you have a local food attack in the night, this is the place to go to in the East.

The only complaint is that the table is very small and place very close to each other. It is cramp when it is very crowded. Not a place to sit and chat.

I had a $40 Pokka vouchers when I became their member for ordering a Birthday cake from their sister company Rive Gauche. So we decided to try this Restaurant. On top member get further discount when dining or purchases from any of the other sister company.
 Chawanmushi

Chawanmushi

For starter, the silky smooth chawanmushi was served in a Japaneses tea cup decorated with 2 slices of mushroom.
Fried Salmon Skin

Fried Salmon Skin

We also order a plate of fried salmon skin. It is very crispy, paper thin, lightly salted served with mayo sauce. This is very addictive.
Saba Bento

Saba Bento

The saba bento set comes with agedashi tofu, miso soup, slices of salmon on top of a bowl of rice an grilled saba fish.
Teriyaki chicken & Udon Set

Teriyaki chicken & Udon Set

The grilled Teriyaki chicken is yummy. The piping hot udon comes in a miso soup based with pieces of Japaneses fish cake. Included in the set are agedashi tofu and pieces of crispy fried chicken.
Black Sesame & Green Tea Ice Cream

Black Sesame & Green Tea Ice Cream

To end the meal on a sweet note we ordered Black Sesame & Green tea Ice cream to share.

The place is simply decorated with a casual Japanese setting. Overall the Japaneses food is not bad and the set are value for money. Will go back if I crave for Japaneses food.

Tea @ToastBox OK Mar 02, 2012
Categories : Singaporean | Coffeeshop

This toastbox is really quiet with hardly any customer on a Saturday afternoon. When we first arrive we were the only customer, we had the whole place to ourselves. The cashier said they are busy on weekday but quiet during weekend. We ordered drinks and light snacks after our walk from Marina Bay Sand.
Laksa

Laksa

The laksa is not bad with a slighly spicy gravy topped with fish cakes, beancurd puff & hard boiled egg. If you order the set, it comes with barley.
Ham Sandwich, Ice lemongrass tea & Banana cake

Ham Sandwich, Ice lemongrass tea & Banana cake

The ham sandwich is toasted bread with a sliced of ham & cheese. The plain looking banana cake is soft & moist with a hint of banana flavour. The ice cold lemongrass tea has strong English tea with lemongrass flavour.

Recommended Dish(es):  laksa,kaya toast
