Categories : Japanese | Desserts and Cakes

This little shop is at the covered bridge that link Bugis Junction to Bugis +. It sells only 1 product that is imported Mochi from Japan.

Mochi is a Japaneses rice cake made from Glutinous Rice flour. It has a range of flavors like Sakura, Chestnut Cream, Purple Potato, Green Tea, Mango Yogurt etc. It start from $2.50 to $2.80.
Sakura & Chestnut Mochi

Sakura & Chestnut Mochi

It is shaped round and has a snowy appearance and it soft and chewy when it it thawed after 20mins. When you buy it it frozen. The Sakura flavor has a nice baby pink color with light white powder that look like snow. Taste of Sakura was lightly fragrant and was not too sweet.

The Chestnut Cream has a light yellow appearance and a smooth chestnut cream.

If you buy less than 6 pieces. Each piece is individual wrapped in a wax paper which form a cone. So it is easy to hold and eat the mochi. I noticed they have a box for 6 pieces and is nice as a gift.

Hakka Yong Tau Foo. Smile Sep 21, 2012

Categories : Singaporean | Hakka | Chinese | Coffeeshop

This stalls is located inside the coffee shop next to Siglap Centre. It is separated by a canal. Previously it was occupied by the famous Fu Lin Yong Tau Foo which moved a few doors away to occupied an entire shop. I heard their worker took over the stall and sells the same items. The last time I went to Fu Lin it does not starts until 10am so I prefer this stall as the taste is as good and it open early for breakfast and close around 7.45pm. But the Fu Lin Stall has another branch at 112 Katong selling each items at 70cents.
Yong Tau Foo

Yong Tau Foo

I like they re-fried all the fried items and it is crispy. It has lots of varieties and all items cost only 50cents each. They have sotong ball, fish ball, stuffed egg plant, stuffed bitter gourd and different type of beancurd items etc. The items are served hot with a light meat sauce gravy. You can request individual bowl of thick Bee Hoon which has a topping of meat sauce at extra cost. It has a sweet sauce and chilli sauce to go with your Yong Tau Foo. Unlike those in the hawker center or food court where you are served in soup, curry gravy or a dry version. This Is basicaly dry version with Meat sauce. It is the Hakka Yong Tau Foo style.

Taste wise it is as good as Fu Lin.

We ordered some curry puff, pies and swiss roll for takeaway. The famiy always enjoy Polar Curry Puff.

At $1.60 this curry puff pack a spicy punch of dry chicken curry. The pastry is not your usual fried dough but a baked multi layers puff pastry.
Curry Puff and Chicken Pie

Curry Puff and Chicken Pie

The chicken pie share similar flaky pastry which is filled with creamy chicken chunks, mixed vegetable and button mushroom. The sugar roll is plain swiss roll coated with caster sugar. It has othe flavours like chocolate and strawberry. This is old school style of cake.

The cakes and pastry are decent at a reasonable price. This is why Polar is a popular tea time choice.

Thai To Go. OK Sep 07, 2012

Categories : Thai

This shops sells Thai Food which deliver to your house. We decided to try this as we are fan of Thai food. We ordered from the menu listed on their website http://www.thaitogo.com.sg/menu.php and placed the order on the phone. Since this is the first time ordering from them, we decided to order the small portions so that we can try more dishes.

Thai Fish Cakes
The homemade Fish Cakes is $5.50 for 3 pieces. It was quite good and not too spicy with a a QQ texture.

Baby KaiLan with Mushroom
The small portion of Baby KaiLan with Mushroom is $4.95 and the bigger portion is $7.95. The taste were normal and nothing special.
3 Flavoured Fish & Green Chicken Curry

3 Flavoured Fish & Green Chicken Curry

Rich and Aromatic Green Curry Chicken
The Green Curry had pieces of chicken, egg plant and the taste is not bad. It is $5.95 for a small portion and the bigger portion is $8.95.

Deep Fried 3 Flavoured Sauced Fish
I was disappointed with this dish as I expected a whole fish instead of battered fish slice and the sauce is like Thai Chilli Sauce, not what I have eaten in Thai Cafe. It cost $9.95 or $12.95.

Steamed Sweet Tapioca w/ Coconut Cream
There was only 2 desserts in the menu to choose, we ordered both. The Tapioca with Coconut Cream is $3 a portion and the tapioca is cooked till it is soft.

Mango Sticky Rice
The Mango Sticky Rice is the more expensive dessert at $4.95. It came with a separate container of coconut cream. The taste of Mango was slightly sweet and sour with certain part not very ripe.

We wanted to order the Thai Ice Tea or the Lemongrass Drink as stated in their Takeaway Menu but was told only canned drinks is available. Delivery charges are from $3 depending on your post code.

Overall the food is ok & prices are mostly below $10. If you really crave for Thai Food but lazy to go out, this deliver to your doorstep in 1hour.

I have eaten better Thai food at a Thai Cafe. My favorite Thai Cafe is Nakhon Kitchen in Bedok for it tasty and cheap Thai food. tongue See previous review http://sg.openrice.com/singapore/restaurant/commentdetail.htm?commentid=36061

ABC Juice $2.50

ABC Juice $2.50

At $2.50 the ABC Juice is one of the cheapest in town. This is a mixture of either Green Apple or Red Apple with Beetroot and Carrot. If you like your juice sweeter, opt for the red apple as the green apple gives the juice a slight tart taste. This juice is rich in Antioxidants, Fibers, Minerals and Vitamins. This tonic helps to improve eye sight, skin and is a Great Immunity Booster.lol It is a Good choice for those who want to increase their vegetable intake.
