very spicy pasta Smile Oct 01, 2012

this pasta came out with lots of red bits in it - red sausage, red mince, red oily sauce, red chillies. so it was not a surprise that it was very spicy when placed in the mouth. the chorizo was tasty but the extra spiciness was a bit too much. took a long time to finish this dish as it was so spicy. the presentation was nice in a huge big bowl. the pasta was al dente. definitely need to order a cold drink to go with this. cost about $25. service is pretty lousy and slow.

biryani OK Oct 01, 2012

most of the time that we come here, this stall is not open. this time it is open. they are supposed to be popular for their biryani, which is about the only thing they sell here. costs about $5. not too spicy. quite fragrant. comes with a serving of meat and a serving of achar. the acahr is refreshing, but it is actually quite spicy. the rice itself is nice and well done. overall flavour was quite good. long-grain rice used.

sugar cane drink OK Oct 01, 2012

standard sugar cane drink that you can get up and down the stalls here at old airport road hawker centre. the prices are pretty standard too - around $1.50 per normal sized serve across all stalls. it is the same here. they all taste pretty similar too. here it is grassy and quite fresh. no added sugar. very cold and refreshing. just enough ice. fast service. nice green colour. good to go with fried foods and spicy foods on a hot day.

simple soup OK Oct 01, 2012

Categories : Hawker Centre | Chinese Soup

simple soup place. watercress and pork ribs. there are a couple of ribs in the soup - not very meaty. lots of watercress which unfortunately has turned yellow from being in the hot broth for too long. the broth is flavourful but a bit too salty. the rice is dry and fluffy and not too bad. the soup is very hot and takes a while to cool down. service is quick. not a very big portion. costs about $4. rice costs extra.

nice pretzels Smile Oct 01, 2012

the pretzels here are unlike the swiss or german types. here it is very soft and light and fluffy. the swiss/german ones are thick and dense and chewy and heavy. here, you can add flavoured sugar to your pretzel. the green tea one is great with green tea powder and sugar dusted on the pretzel. they only dust it on when you order it. otherwise the sugar and tea powder will melt into a mess. very fragrant. you can smell it many shops away. about $3.50
