It was a Sunday morning, I rode my bike for exercise, it took me an hour plus with empty stomach. It’s time to have breakfast after a long ride. Having a long time, I didn’t try kway chap, why not to have go this morning. Their food looked good to me. Kwai chap wasn’t my usual food so I didn’t know how much it could be for my empty stomach that morning, so I ordered a normal portion. I was slightly disappointed when served as the portion was quite small to me, probably my eyes were bigger than my stomach. Intestine was thinly slice(lost the texture), though taste wise was good, I like the intestine would ooze the juice when I bite it, too thin it has lost the interesting already. Few pieces of each type of food, intestine, fatty pork and pig skin, they were stingily served. I didn’t mind to pay more for more food. My friend suggested trying this vegetarian sandwich stall. Their menu looks tempting, I browse roughly other items, they have some interesting vegetarian food. We decided to give it a go. I just ordered a veggie tuna sandwich and pumpkin sandwich was for my friend. They have few types of breads for choice, we both chose wholemeal bread. Bread was lightly toasted. Taste wise for veggie tuna was light and bland, texture wise was OK. Frankly it didn’t really like tuna in terms of texture and taste. As for my friend’s pumpkin sandwich, it was just meshed pumpkin with some raw shredded veggie, sweet to taste. Both of us felt that if the filling could be more, it made a big difference. No harm on trying but we won’t return for sure. Other Ratings:Taste 2 | Environment 2 | Service 2 | Clean 2 | Price 2 Recommend 0 |
Ever since my friend told me this place is good in stir fry mee sua, I like to eat it whenever I pass by this place. I have been here for mee sua quite a few times already, their taste are maintained so far. For mee sua dish, they only serve 2 types, I used to have the normal one and this time I wanted to try the so-called seafood, my friends ordered seafood mee goreng. We waited for our order for at least 10 minutes, there was still no sight of our food, we chased for our order, then slowly they served one seafood mee goreng but we have ordered 2! Anyway, we chased for the 2nd mee goreng as well as my seafood mee sua. Another mee goreng was served (in between there was some hiccup happened), eventually they served my seafood mee sua. What a seafood dish required such a long time to wait, it was just 4 shrimps and 2 sticks of crab meat! Taste was slightly difference too and contained more soup then before. Probably they have changed their chef. Few weeks later, I went there again, I saw the lady boss cooking most of the dishes, taste came back. After watching Channel 8’s Buffetlicious programme, this was really tempting me. Eventually we found the chance to try it with the long weekend. I called for reservation, coming Saturday and Monday booking were full, sounds really popular. We have no choice to have it on Sunday, anyway, it didn’t really matter to us. During weekend and PH prices are slightly higher with the same food serve. We reached there 5 minutes earlier but they could only open for seating at 3pm sharp. We saw some early diners were waiting too. It was a busy day as it was almost full house. We were arranged for a table for 2 along the aisle behind the big column. Quickly browse the food, there aren’t many choices though, quite standard high tea type of food, cold and warm dishes, mini sandwiches and desserts. I was looking forward to trying the Philippines Lala(giant clam) and durian penget. They serve the normal clam as well, it has to compare these 2 types of clams than ones would know the winner was Philippines lala, it has the natural sweetness, texture wise it was chewy, not rubbery. Pretty soon lala was empty, we noted that the speed for refill was inefficient, there was a bowl of lala shell without meat, they stayed there for long and not a single service crew noted with replacement! After a substantial time then it has replaced. Salmon open sandwich was popular too, it served two times only. Deep fry chicken wing was featured on TV too, it was a let down to me, it wasn’t crispy at all and I felt that it left there for long time. I didn't eat the rest of the cooked food as they didn't attract me. I was looking forward to eating durian penget, first taste~not so sweet, second taste~actually it was quite bland! It was a pricey high tea for my judgement! Date of Visit: Nov 06, 2011 Spending per head: Approximately $42(Tea) Other Ratings:Taste 2 | Environment 3 | Service 2 | Clean 3 | Price 4Recommend 0 |
Peranakan food hardly comes across my mind, though this famous Peranakan restaurant is really near to my house, I have yet to patronise, shame! Anyway, it was because the TV programme shot about another Peranakan restaurant, it raised my interest in trying it. As usual, I would browse reviews for these 2 restaurants for reference. Blue Ginger got the best votes so far, whereas, the other one got constructive comments but the owner couldn’t accept them, kept arguing over the reviews. Henceforth, I picked Blue Ginger. We reached there right before the lunch crowd, we were led to a 2 seat-table at ground floor as they have upper floor too. I could see they serve customers politely, they would pull chair for lady as a courtesy. Come to ordering, frankly, I don’t know much about their menu, we just ordered the most common signature dishes. First, I tried the complimentary Achar, it was the best achar I have tasted so far. I finished the whole plate and left nothing for my partner! All dishes were up to our expectation, taste nice and moderate portion. Bean curd roll with variety of filling, it made up the full taste, really satisfy. Chicken with black nut, well, it was an interest dish to us, chicken was a bit dried and tough though, black nut was fun to eat. To complete the meal, dessert is a must have item for me. I ordered durian chendol, chendol was fine, surprisingly durian taste was really intense. The after taste left so long in my mouth! It wasn’t too sweet. I think I would return for more Peranakan food.
